Veteran UFC lightweight contender, Jim Miller continues to roll forward so deep into his Octagon stint — this time around, stopping Nikolas Motta with a slew of brutal ground strikes inside two rounds on the main card of UFC Vegas 48.
Miller, a veteran UFC lightweight challenger entered tonight’s pairing against Motta in the midst of a purple-patch, following a knockout win over Erick Gonzalez last time out.
Clipping Motta with a hook in close range, Miller, who turned 38-year-old back in August, immediately sought out another career finish — dishing out a barrage of ground strikes, eventually rendering Motta unconscious and forcing referee, Keith Peterson to step in and call a halt to the clash.

Landing a close split decision victory, Joaquin Buckley managed to survive a late third round onslaught from Abdul Razak Alhassan — handing the Accra native a judging defeat in the main card opener of UFC Vegas 48.
Buckley, who was joined by Detroit Urban Survival self-defense coach, Dale Brown in his corner tonight, managed to avoid a lot of Alhassan’s heavier shots on the feet, however, as the bout rolled on, the Ghanaian managed to land some notable ground strikes against Buckley.
Forced to the distance, the renowned knockout artists were only separated courtesy of a close split (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) decision victory, with a few notable takedowns from Buckely lodging prior hay in the barn for a decision win.

Israel Adesanya successfully scores his fourth defense of the undisputed UFC middleweight title, handing former champion, Robert Whittaker a second career loss with a unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) loss in the main event bout of UFC 271.
A much more measured and patient approach to the first round for Whittaker than their initial pairing, with the challenger electing to momentarily lunge forward, but sit on the outside for the round. Adesanya with a slew of leg kicks and jabs, and sat down Whittaker late in the frame with a well-placed straight left.
Some more urgency from Whittaker in that second round, landing some decent counter shots early, but was unable to secure top position from a lengthy takedown charge forward, with Adesanya then forcing the clinch. Adesanya finding that lead leg on cue.
Another positive round for Whittaker, however, the champion is likely three rounds to the good regardless. More pressure and pressing for a takedown in that frame sees Whittaker go two for five for attempts. Adesanya continues to chop that leg. Advice in Whittaker’s corner is push for a “blast double” takedown.
Likely the closest round of the contest in the fourth, with Whittaker jabbing well and also taking Adesanya’s back standing before he was shaken off. Adesanya winning this fight but these rounds are getting closer and Whittaker is finding his range. Final five incoming.
An impressive fifth round from Whittaker, who scores the frame, however, Adesanya successfully defends his middleweight title in the pair’s rematch.

Brazilian finisher, Renato Moicano finds himself in the midst of another winning run during his Octagon tenure — chalking up his second consecutive victory with a second round rear-naked choke win against Alexander Hernandez on the main card of UFC 271.
Adding Hernandez to a prior victory over former Cage Warriors lightweight best, Jai Herbert, Moicano, a former interim featherweight champion under the Jungle Fight banner in his native Brazil — showed off his eye-catching Muay Thai upstairs against Hernandez in the run-up to the finish.
Wobbling Hernandez with a straight right hand, Moicano then wound up on top from a frail takedown attempt, and took Hernandez’s back. Securing a body triangle, Moicano latched onto a rear-naked choke, forcing an eventual tap from Hernandez.

What an incredible rally from Brazilian powerhouse, Douglas Silva de Andrade. Recovering from an adversity filled first round, including a knockdown and a massive cut beside his right eye, the bantamweight finisher stops Sergey Morozov with a second round rear-naked choke on the preliminary card of UFC 271.
Suffering a notable knockdown in the opening frame, de Andrade was then split open courtesy of a massive ground strike from Morozov, opening a sizeable cut just to the right of the Brazilian’s right sight.
However, rallying massively in the second round, the always-aggressive de Andrade dropped Morozov with a sweeping, reaching right hook, before eventually jumping on the back during a later exchange, immediately hand fighting.
Locking up a rear-naked choke eventually, de Andrade brutally choked Morozov unconscious — securing just his second career submission win to go with a stunning 20 career knockouts.

City Kickboxing standout, Blood Diamond — otherwise known as Mike Methetha has landed in the UFC with a first round submission loss, dropping a rear-naked choke to Jeremiah Well on the preliminary card of UFC 271.
Diamond, a trainee of undisputed middleweight champion and event headliner, Israel Adesanya, was eventually taken down by Wells — who initially tripped against the Octagon fence in the opening seconds, quite bizarrely.
However, despite admirably hand fighting for the second half of the round, Diamond eventually gave up his back during a scramble, and while without securing hooks on either side, Wells, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt choked the Zimbabwean unconscious — handing him his first professional loss.
