The highlight of the show were Chael Sonnen’s (likely scripted) one-liners. From poking fun at himself, to taking shots at Wand and Anderson, “The Gangster from America” was on his game.

What we learned from the show:
• Frankie Munoz and Arianny Celeste make a creepy couple
• Athletes aren’t very good readers
• Dana White was too busy eating sushi in Japan to attend the awards
• Our invite still hasn’t arrived (must have gone to the wrong address)
• Shawn Tompkins was a beloved coach in the sport and deserved the lifetime achievement award and to have the “Coach of the Year” award named after him
• There are a lot of “celebrities” we’ve never heard of
• Leonard Garcia is a good sport for accepting the award for “Submission of the Year” on behalf of “The Korean Zombie”
• Arianny had no idea she would win, but she just happened to prepare a prop for Chael “just in case”
• Chael was right, Anderson Silva DOES speak perfect English
• Roy Nelson’s mullet is fantastic
• Jon Jones doesn’t see anything wrong with saying “you guyses champion”
If you needed further evidence that somebody’s going to get all butthurt tomorrow, the above video featuring UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and light-heavyweight contender Phil Davis doesn’t pull any punches. As they climb through a storage unit, the duo take shots at Arianny Celeste, Jon Jones, Cecil Peoples, Wanderlei Silva, and more. It’s definitely worth a couple of minutes of your time.
Yesterday’s skit probably reminded you that a good chin doesn’t always equate to strong acting chops. Then again, there’s only so much you can do with the script you’re handed. Speaking of which, the comedic stylings of Frank Mir await you after the jump.

(Meathead’s impartial reminder for you to get your votes in.)
Even though we were conspicuously absent from the ballot again, we’re still going to do our friends at Fighters Only Magazine a solid by reminding The Potato Nation to vote for your other favorites who were nominated for this year’s 2011 Fighters Only World MMA Awards.
For all of the readers who pine over your old dad who left you to be raised by mom and your *new* dad, even though he doesn’t write or call, you can vote for Ben Fowlkes in the MMA Journalist of the Year category.
Other than that, there are probably a few brands and names in there that you support.
With Chael Sonnen hosting the event, things could get interesting, especially when it comes time for him to do the rumored dance number with Black House.
Check out the categories and nominees after the jump.

Fighters Only Magazine announced today that Chael Sonnen will host this year’s addition of the World MMA Awards. The outspoken “American Gangster” will replace last year’s host, Randy Couture and will undoubtedly inject some humor and testosterone into the program.
The show, which will be co-hosted by ESPN’s Molly Querim, will be broadcast live on Wednesday, November 30th from the Pearl Theatre at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas on Fox Sports and will be re-broadcast on Fuel TV later in the week.

In a release sent out by FO today, CEO Rob Hewitt had the following to say about the addition of MMA’s biggest talker:
“I say it every year that we want to make the awards show bigger and better and every year we have done just that. However, none of it would be possible with out the support of the MMA industry, the fans, our sponsors and TV and venue partners who all believe as much as we do in this project. To celebrate the sport we love and the people within it in the way that we do is a crowning moment of the year for Fighters Only and we can’t wait to reveal this year’s winners.”
Tickets for the World MMA Awards 2011 are priced at $59, $79 and $99, plus additional fees, and go on sale on Friday, October 21st at noon. Tickets can be purchased at the Pearl Box Office, by calling 702-944-3200 or at any Ticketmaster location. Doors for the event on November 30th open at 6 pm, with show time at 7.30pm.

Fighters Only 2010 World MMA Awards Nominees were announced and MMA Fix would like to point out the interesting note that AKA Coach Dave Camarillo was left out of the Coach of the Year category. Nominations were voted on by the public so why would YOU leave out a coach who has lead Jon Fitch into 5 straight wins, Josh Koscheck who is up for a Welterweight title shot against GSP, and Cain Velasquez, whose main event Heavyweight title fight against Brock Lesnar is one of the most anticipated bouts of the year?
You can place your votes for the finalists listed below at www.worldmmaawards.com. Polls are open until November 26th. Winners will be announced December 1st live inside The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV with host UFC Legend Randy Couture.
