World Series of Fighting Announces Four-Fight Lineup, Ticket Dates for WSOF 3 in Las Vegas

(Knocks out a former UFC star, still can’t get his friends backstage passes. No respect, I tells ya. Photo via Dave Mandel of Sherdog.)

On the heels of a successful second event in March, upstart promotion World Series of Fighting has officially announced the date, location, ticket dates, and TV lineup for WSOF 3 earlier today. Featuring a main event rematch between Josh Burkman and Jon Fitch for the promotion’s inaugural welterweight title (a ballsy decision considering Fitch’s somewhat…ahem…polarizing style of fighting), WSOF 3 is set to transpire Friday, June 14th from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the event are set go on sale April 19th and start at just $29.00.

At this point, you’re probably thinking, “Thirty bucks for a rematch between to mid-tier UFC castaways? My mom will never float me the money for such nonsense!” Well, tell those shyster parents of yours that WSOF 3 will also feature the likes of Tyrone Spong, Rolles Gracie, and Justin Gaethje as well.

On the heels of a straight vicious performance in his MMA debut at WSOF 1, Spong will face off against Angel “The Dream” (Author’s note: Uh-oh) DeAnda, an 11-2, 5’8″ light heavyweight currently riding a four-fight win streak over a bunch of guys you’ve probably never heard of. DeAnda’s last loss dates back to 2010, where he was knocked out by one-time XARM competitor (and former UFC fighter, we’re being told) James “Why Me?” Irvin in under two minutes. Expect something similar to happen to this poor bastard here as well.

The rest of the announced lineup for WSOF 3 is after the jump.

Also set for WSOF 3 is a matchup between Rolles Gracie and knockout artist Dave “Bad Man” Huckaba. Since being ousted from the UFC following a disastrous performance in his lone appearance at UFC 109, Gracie has scored five straight wins via submission including a triumphant submission via pitter-patter punches victory over Bob Sapp. Huckaba, on the other hand, has collected nine victories in his past ten contests (eight by stoppage) and holds notable victories over Tank Abbott’s next opponent, the manbearpig who died after fighting a roided up Ken Shamrock, and the guy who tapped to Kimbo’s strikes in under 20 seconds. Should be a fun scrap.

The rest of the announced lineup for WSOF 3 is below.

MAIN CARD (NBC Sports Network, 11 p.m. ET),
-Josh Burkman vs. Jon Fitch
-Brian Cobb vs. Justin Gaethje
-Angel DeAnda vs. Tyrone Spong
-Rolles Gracie vs. Dave Huckaba

PRELIMINARY CARD (Untelevised, 8 p.m. ET)
-John Gunderson vs. Dan Lauzon
-Kendrick Miree vs. Krasimir Mladenov

CagePotato PSA: Attention Male & Female Bantamweights, TUF 18 Will Be Holding Tryouts on April 15th

(Her training methods may be unusual, but dammit, the woman GETS RESULTS.)

Just a heads up for any of you members of the Potato Nation who fancy themselves the next Forrest Griffin (or more than likely, the next Julian Lane); it has recently been announced that the UFC will be holding auditions starting at 8 a.m. PT on Monday, April 15th to kick off the highly anticipated upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter: Rashes*. Auditions for both male and female bantamweight competitors will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Palace Station Hotel, located on 2411 West Sahara Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In order to apply for TUF 18, one must first download the application here. The restrictions are as one would expect: You must be above 21, a legal US citizen, and have at least three verifiable pro MMA fights. Also, no fat chicks,”ugos,” skipskops, skallywags, trick-ass marks, or mark-ass tricks. I’m just reading the release, people.

Featuring female coaches and participants for the first time in the show’s history, TUF 18 will see bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey face off against the winner of the upcoming Miesha Tate vs. Cat Zingano fight scheduled for the TUF 17 Finale in April. For her sake, let’s hope Ronda is able to communicate better with her team than she did with the dudes from TUF 15, or it is going to be one quiet, awkward season.

Speaking of awkward, let’s see what Joe Rogan thinks about the upcoming season…

Mondays Suck, So Here’s Arianny Celeste in Various States of Undress [VIDEO]

No, I did not alter the title of this photo.
(“OK, Ms. Celeste, we want this calendar to reflect both your future and your past, which is why I’m going to need you to kick in the window of that Ferrari for this next shot.”)

Allow me to take you through my thought process whilst attempting to determine a worthy enough post this morning:

OK, Jared, another weekend, another dead hooker in the trunk, but that’s not important, you must focus on an MMA-related topic for the time being…let’s see here, Nick Ring has his next fight booked against Constantinos Philippou at UFC 154, but no one cares about that………dammit, Latisha, you just had to threaten to call Big Ron again, didn’t you?! Focus, focus…uh…Marloes Coenen said Ronda Rousey has “no balls”…I suppose that is true, but not really newsworthy, because bitches be crazy, right Latisha? *attempts high five, receives no response*….think Jared, what would the Potato Nation like to start their Monday off with? *looks over to Latisha once again*…TITS. Of course, it’s so obvious! Time to break out the lime, I mean computer, and get started!

So while it may not be all that significant that a behind-the-scenes video of Arianny Celeste’s 2013 Calendar shoot was recently released online, please trust that this is probably the most captivating bit of news you could come across this morning given the options at hand. So just shut up and enjoy Ms. Celeste rocking no shirt like only she can.

Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez ll Set for UFC 152

The seemingly inevitable rematch now has a date in place.

Immediately following UFC on FX 3, Dana White revealed his plan to have the heavyweight championship rematch headline UFC 152 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As of right now, a welterweight bout between BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald is also scheduled for the event.

When the two first met at UFC on FOX, the fight was a relatively anticlimactic affair that saw Junior Dos Santos wreck Cain Velasquez one minute and four seconds into the first round. While most fans weren’t clamoring for an immediate rematch, it was obvious that the two young heavyweights would meet up again.

This became even more obvious after UFC 146, which saw both men dominate their opponents on their way to early stoppages. In the main event of the evening, champion Junior Dos Santos defended his title against Frank Mir with a spectacular second round TKO. Despite Frank Mir’s best efforts to get the fight to the ground, the only time he managed to get it there was when he was dropped by the heavy hands of Junior Dos Santos.

And as great as Dos Santos looked against Mir, Cain Velasquez looked even more dominant against Strikeforce veteran Antonio Silva. Silva was at no point in their fight a threat to the former champion, being taken down early and beaten to a pulp before the fight was mercifully stopped at 3:36 of the first round.

UFC 152 is expected to go down on September 22. We’ll keep you up to date as more fights get announced for this card.
