Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou touted to blow the roof off of any arena in potential UFC title fight

Despite the fact neither Jon Jones nor Francis Ngannou compete under the same banner anymore, former two-weight UFC champion, Daniel Cormier claims a long-awaited future pairing of the duo would likely “blow the roof off any arena” that houses them.

Jones, the recently minted undisputed heavyweight champion, took the place atop the division pile from Ngannou, who was stripped of this gold back in January of this year ahead of his exit from the promotion.

Headlining UFC 285 in March against common-opponent, Ciryl Gane, Jones managed to submit the former interim gold holder with a stunning opening round guillotine choke, continuing his winning run a division higher following a three-year-plus hiatus from the sport.

As for Ngannou, the Batié native has been sidelined since he successfully unified the heavyweight titles against the above-mentioned, Gane back in January of last year at UFC 270, turning in a comprehensive unanimous decision success.

Pundits claim a route to Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou is still possible

And despite the fact a dream pairing of Jones and Ngannou is currently intangible amid the latter’s departure from the promotion at the beginning of the year, the likes of former middleweight champion, Michael Bisping claims the UFC would entertain a fight between the two again if Jones defeats soon-to-be common-foe, Stipe Miocic later this year at UFC 295.

And according former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Cormier, Jon Jones would likely haly his laid out retirement plans for a fight with Cameroonian knockout ace, Ngannou – a fight he believes turns in a massive attendance.

“ I know I do, I’m all in on that fight because I think that fight would blow the roof off of any arena that they put these two [Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou] into,” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “I believe that’s the one that will get Jones excited.”

“It’ll challenge him physically, but also mentally for his preperation to be ready and more ready than ever because the understands the challenges ahead of him in Francis Ngannou,” Daniel Cormier explained.

Francis Ngannou pokes fun at critics of UFC hiatus just out here fumbling the bag

Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou appears in no rush to make a move to another mixed martial arts promotion off the back of his Octagon departure back in January of this year – poking fun at those who claim he is missing lucrative paychecks.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, departed the Dana White-led promotion back in January of this year in less than ceremonious circumstances.

Sidelined from active competition since headlining UFC 270 back in January of last year, Ngannou managed to successfully unify the heavyweight titles against then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane, defeating the Frenchman with a unanimous decision win.

However, seeing contractual obligations with the UFC come to an official end in December, Batié native, Francis Ngannou elected against re-upping with the organization, leading to his turn-of-year exit.

Francis Ngannou recently held talks with ONE Championship

Yet to pen terms with a deal despite holding a reported “verbal agreement” with an undisclosed outfit, Ngannou was accused of missing the boat on numerous lucrative deals, off the back of shelved talks with the Chatri Sityodtong-led, ONE Championship – with the CEO claiming Ngannou had rejected a guaranteed $20,000,000 contract to link up with the promotion.

And in response to Sityodtong one can imagine, Ngannou last week claimed that some promoters and figureheads in the sport were “two-faced”

Poking fun of critics who question his negotiation tactics, Ngannou jokingly claimed he was “fumbling the bag”.

“Just out here fumbling the bag,” Francis Ngannou tweeted.

One of the most ferocious knockout artists in Octagon history, Ngannou minted himself as the undisputed heavyweight champion at UFC 260 back in March 2021, stopping Stipe Miocic with a massive second round KO at the UFC Apex facility in their title rematch.

En route to gold to boot, Ngannou dispatched the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Curtis Blaydes, Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, and Jairzinho Rozenstruik to name a few.

UFC backed to revisit Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou fight in the future

According to former undisputed UFC middleweight champion and promotional Hall of Fame inductee, Michael Bisping, the promotion would likely weigh up the possibly of a future resigning of former champion, Francis Ngannou – should current gold holder, Jon Jones beat Stipe Miocic in an expected title fight this year.

Jones, the current undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is expected to make his return to the Octagon later this year in a championship title defense against former two-time division best, Miocic at Madison Square Garden.

Expected to announce his retirement from the sport in the coming future, Jones claimed that a potential fight with former heavyweight champion, Ngannou would likely see him postpone his retirement from mixed martial arts competition, however.

As for Ngannou, the Batié knockout artist has been sidelined since January 2020, seeing his UFC exit granted in January of this year following the completion of his contractual obligations with the organization last December.

Francis Ngannou has been linked with a move to the PLF later this year

And yet to pen terms with a promotion following his Octagon departure, UFC leader, Dana White confirmed that the promotion would never entertain a return for Ngannou, however, former middleweight champion, Bisping scoffs at that narrative.

“Francis Ngannou – Dana (White) said he will never fight for the UFC ever again, and I understand that of course,” Michael Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “But if Stipe (Miocic) and Jon Jones were to fight, and it’s a big if, if Jon Jones was to win that fight because it ain’t no walk in the park… Stipe Miocic can do it all, so that would be a huge test for Jon Jones and a massive fight…”

“Let’s just imagine that he [Jones] beats him [Miocic] and he says, ‘That’s it. I’m done. I’m done, unless Francis Ngannou comes back’… I think in that situation, everyone would sit around the negotiation table,” Michael Bisping explained. (Transcribed by MMA News)

Khamzat Chimaev

Undefeated Chechen monster Khamzat Chimaev laid down an interesting challenge to former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

‘The Predator’ has been dominating headlines as of late as news of his imminent arrival in a new organization has caused rampant speculation among fans, analysts, and fighters alike. While no official announcement has been made, the rumor mill is heavily suggesting that Ngannou has signed with the Professional Fighters League in a deal that may leave the door open for the Cameroonian to explore other avenues of revenue outside of the Smart Cage. That could mean appearances inside the squared circle, or maybe even a high-profile grappling match if sometimes-middleweight-mostly-welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev gets his way.

‘Borz’ took to social media on Thursday, challenging Francis Ngannou to a grappling match. “Lets make grappling match @francis_ngannou,” Chimaev tweeted.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Khamzat Chimaev has mixed it up with another professional fighter in a non-striking battle. In 2021, ‘Borz’ earned a win over Jack Hermansson in a wrestling match under the Bulldog Fight banner.

Khamzat Chimaev May Have His Hands Full with Another Former UFC Champion

Khamzat Chimaev’s last appearance inside the Octagon came at UFC 279 in September where he earned his 12th-straight win by ragdolling fan-favorite Kevin Holland for a first-round submission. It’s possible we may not see ‘Borz’ return for another five months as the promotion makes plans for a return to Abu Dhabi in October. If former middleweight king Kamaru Usman gets his wish, he will be the man to welcome Chimaev back to the Octagon on his way to a fourth meeting with division rival and reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

“I think a fight with myself and Khamzat [Chimaev], boom,” Usman told ESPN MMA. “And if [Leon Edwards] keeps winning, I think that that’s a fourth fight for sure.”

It’s unclear whether or not Khamzat Chimaev will remain in the welterweight division after coming in nearly eight-pounds overweight for his previously scheduled main event matchup with Nate Diaz in September. UFC President Dana White is open to the idea of booking Usman vs. Chimaev, but believes it would be best done at middleweight, likely teeing up ‘Borz’ for a 185-pound title fight should he secure a win against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare.’

“If (Usman) wants to move up to 185 and fight (Chimaev), we could talk about it,” White said on The Jim Rome Show.

Francis Ngannou receives PFL fight offer from ex-champion, Fabricio Werdum

Departing the Octagon while holding the #14 rank in the official heavyweight pile, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Fabricio Werdum most recently defeated former light heavyweight title challenger, Alexander Gustafsson with a first round armbar in July 2020, before moving to the PFL two years later.

Debuting in the promotion in an eventual official ‘No Contest’ against compatriot, Renen Ferreira, Werdum has since been linked with a return to the PFL later this year, and has now offered to fight Batié heavyweight knockout ace, Ngannou to boot.

“Hi @Francis_Ngannou I shock the world when i beat Fedor also when I beat Cain,” Fabricio Werdum tweeted. “And I become undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. You have a lot of hole in your game. Let’s go. @PFLMMA @DonnDavisPFL @PeteMurrayPFL only one way to find out PFL smart cage.”

Yet to pen terms on a new contract amid his UFC exit back in January of this year, Ngannou assured his fans and followers that “everything is under control” regarding his uncertain future in the sport, however, has yet to feature since he defeated Ciryl Gane in a unanimous decision victory back in January of last year at UFC 270 in Anaheim, California.

Ngannou managed to land his UFC title back in March 2021, taking out former champion and common-foe, Stipe Miocic with a second round knockout in the pair’s championship rematch.

Francis Ngannou unmoved MMA future don't panic everything is under control

Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou appears unmoved amid continued speculation regarding his fighting future in the sport, claiming that “everything is under control”.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since headlining UFC 270 back in January of last year, defeating Ciryl Gane in a successful title unification victory.

However, in January of this year, Batié native, Ngannou was issued his official release from the UFC, having completed his contractual obligations with the organization back in December of last year. Granted his official release from the promotion, Ngannou was stripped of his heavyweight title and removed from the official division rankings to boot.

Amid continued speculation regarding his fighting future following his UFC exit, Ngannou, who recently saw talks with ONE Championship break down over the course of the weekend – is alleged to have rejected a guaranteed $20,000,000 deal from the Chatri Sityodtong-led organization.

“He (Francis Ngannou) was asking for a seat at the board of directors, he was asking for him to determine his opponent’s pay,” Chatri Sityodtong said. “We offered him $20,000,000 guaranteed, but the money wasn’t enough, he wanted all of these other non-financial terms that didn’t make a lot of sense.”

“We obviously can’t give a seat at the board of directors, that doesn’t make any sense, he would be a fish out of water [in that position],” Sityodtong continued.

Francis Ngannou unmoved about future MMA return

Off the back of his failed move to Singapore-based promotion, ONE Championship, Ngannou – who holds a verbal agreement with another mixed martial arts promotion ahead of an expected move, has been linked with a landing with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) in the time since.

Appearing to remain calm on his uncertain future, Ngannou urged his followers to “have faith” amid the period of uncertainty.

“Don’t panic guys, everything is under control,” Francis Ngannou tweeted. #HaveFaith”
