(If only…)

Our talented UFC 119 photographer and comment section regular Jason "J-Dog" Wright was back at the Conseco Field House in Indianapolis Saturday night to snap some exclusive photos for us.

Except for one scary incident prior to the Mitrione-Beltran fight (which Ariel Helwani touched on in this interview with Meathead) that nearly cost us some danger pay, J-Dog made it home in one piece with some wicked shots and some great stories to tell the grandkids some day.

Jason was situated by one of the Octagon doors and as such was able to get some candid shots before, during and after each of the fights.

Check out part one of our exclusive UFC 119 photo gallery after the jump.

After a lackluster main event at UFC 119 this past weekend, the MMA Wrap-Up returns to explore whether a) the Frank MirMirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic bout was truly as disappointing as it initially seemed, and b) where do both these men go from here?

At least one of those is a slightly more complicated question than it appears, but have no fear. The MMA Wrap-Up has absolutely no problem dispensing hasty career advice that will almost certainly not be heeded by anyone at any time. That’s just what we do.

Join me below for a full breakdown on what the future holds for Saturday night’s main eventers, all through the magic of video.

INDIANAPOLIS — This is the UFC 119 live blog for Frank Mir vs. Mirko Cro Cop, the main event of tonight’s UFC pay-per-view from the Conseco Field House.

Mir looks to bounce back from a loss to Shane Carwin against the PRIDE legend Cro Cop. Cro Cop accepted this fight on five weeks’ notice in place of Mir’s original opponent, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Frank Mir delivered a brutal knee to the head of Mirko Cro Cop late in the third round of their main event fight Saturday at UFC 119, winning by knockout to put an exclamation point on a fight that had been dull for the 14 minutes of action — or inaction — up to that point.

Cro Cop didn’t appear to be seriously hurt and quickly got up after the knockout, but he had been knocked so senseless that he approached Mir afterward to ask him what happened. Contrary to the conventional wisdom before the fight that Mir would have to use his superior grappling to beat a better striker like Cro Cop, Mir managed to win the fight without ever going to the ground.

“I just pulled a victory over Mirko with no jiu jitsu,” Mir said.

Is UFC 119 the End for Mirko Cro Cop?

Mirko Cro CopINDIANAPOLIS — Mirko Cro Cop wasn’t planning on fighting anytime soon until the emergency phone rang. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was out of UFC 119 and they needed him. Cro Cop of course said yes. One legend out, another in.

Cro Cop said no debate was necessary. After all, he’s a fighter. It’s in his blood. He loves to fight, to compete, to test himself. But before agreeing, Team Cro Cop asked the UFC to do him a favor in return; if he lost, they could not cut him from his newly extended contract. The deal was made, and Cro Cop competed against Frank Mir, ultimately getting knocked out in the third round.

Over his last 10 fights, the Croatian striker has five wins, four losses and one no contest. He’s been knocked unconscious twice. And his best win has come against a relative MMA neophyte, Pat Barry. And so with all this, perhaps it’s time to ask a sad but relevant question: Is it time for Cro Cop to call it quits?

There were times during UFC 119 when it felt like everyone involved spent Saturday afternoon chugging tons of codeine cough syrup. Everybody looked just a little slow, a little out of it. It sure didn’t help that the two main eventers were totally sleepwalking during the first 14 minutes of their fight before Mirko CroCop ended things with his vicious head butt to Frank Mir’s knee. The “co-main event” was also entirely forgettable, as Ryan Bader outpointed Roger Nog to reportedly win the Jon Jones Sweepstakes. Guess we’ll have to check in with him in six months, find out how that worked out for him …

This was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a great effort from the world’s largest MMA promotion. It also wasn’t quite as bad as a lot of people are saying. We’re not talking “worst show of all time” territory here. Credit local boys Matt Mitrione, Sean McCorkle and Chris Lytle for salvaging what they could of the day. Also, Evan Dunham and Sean Sherk’s back-and-forth battle was by turns exciting and totally bizarre. Too bad it was marred by a shaky judges’ decision. And hey, the good news is, if you liked UFC 119 you’re gonna love Oct. 16’s UFC 120, which looks just as terrible on paper but at least airs for free on SpikeTV.
