If Donald Trump is a billionaire, why isn’t even donating money to help those affected by Hurricane Helene? That’s what inaugural UFC light heavyweight champion Frank Shamrock would like to know.

More than 200 people have lost their lives since the supercharged storm made landfall earlier this month. Nearly half of those deaths were in North Carolina, where several feet of fast-moving water destroyed entire communities. Since then, 3,300 active National Guard members have been dispatched to the state to help with relief efforts, and state lawmakers have introduced a bill that will include $200 million in aid for communities hit hardest by the storm.

A slew of celebrities have also done their part to help. Dolly Parton and Michael Jordan both donated $1 million to the cause while David Tepper, owner of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, and his wife Nicole have also committed $3 million to relief efforts through their foundation.

However, one man who has not offered up a dime’s worth of help despite having a reported net worth of $4.2 billion is former U.S. president Donald Trump.

Responding to a post that attempted to throw shade at stars Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga for their lack of donations in comparison to some of Trump’s most staunch supporters, Shamrock was quick to ask why Trump himself has not donated anything to the relief efforts.

“Umm, Trump claims to be a billionaire,” Shamrock wrote on X. “Why doesn’t he help? Oh that’s right he’s too busy drifting his followers and scamming those who believe in him…..”

Donald Trump’s Daughter Joins Relief Efforts

Interestingly, Trump’s daughter Ivanka traveled to North Carolina on Wednesday to deliver 300 Starlink devices that will help flood victims connect to high-speed internet.

To be fair, Donald Trump did launch an authorized GoFundMe campaign for victims of Hurricane Helene that has already surpassed $7.6 million as of this writing. Of course, that is made up of donations by anyone willing to log on and donate a few of their hard-earned dollars to a good cause.

Thus far, Trump has not been one of those people.

The UFC legend Frank Shamrock has taken aim at Elon Musk over his brazen support for Donald Trump, a presidential candidate in the upcoming US election.

The legendary Frank Shamrock is a pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts and competed in the sport well before it was even named MMA. He began his professional career in 1994 and quickly made a name for himself as one of the first complete mixed martial artists. Shamrock transitioned from a ground-focused approach to a more versatile game that included striking and grappling techniques. The Mexican-American fighter was a trailblazer in both Pancrase and the UFC.

After going through the prison and foster care system in the USA, martial arts saved his life.

Shamrock became the first-ever UFC Middleweight Champion. During his impressive reign, he was ranked as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. His professional record boasts notable victories against opponents such as Tito Ortiz, who he defeated in one of the greatest fights in UFC history.

In addition to his UFC success, Shamrock won titles in other major organizations, including the WEC, Pancrase, and Strikeforce. He became the first fighter to hold championships across all these major promotions.

However, Shamrock has not been inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, despite being one of the clear and best picks for an entry. This is largely due to differences of opinion he has had with the organization’s president Dana White.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump

Initially, Elon Musk was critical of Trump, stating in 2016 that he believed Trump was “not the right guy” for the presidency and later distancing himself from the administration over environmental policy disagreements. However, their relationship began to shift when Trump appointed Musk to two economic advisory councils after winning the presidency. This collaboration was short-lived, as Musk resigned from these councils in 2017 in protest of Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Their relationship has taken a more amicable turn, with Musk endorsing Trump for the 2024 presidential election shortly after an assassination attempt on Trump. In August 2024, Musk even indicated his willingness to join Trump’s cabinet if asked.

When the Ferttitas and White bought the UFC, Shamrock revealed they hired him to help consult them. The goal was to get the UFC back-regulated and be a prominent sport. However, Shamrock says he disagreed with what White and Fertitta wanted to do, which is why he didn’t fight for the promotion again and left his consulting role.

“It’s just personal. When the Fertitta’s bought the UFC, they hired me to consult them… I never did business with them because I didn’t believe in their marketing plan. Because I didn’t join them, I became an adversary. I did K1 instead of the UFC, I did a deal with so-and-so instead of the UFC, when asked I spoke to the truth, marketing plans sucked, and they lost $20 million right out of the gate… No one even knew we had rules or we put this regulation in. The minute I didn’t join the team, I was on the other team,” Frank Shamrock said on the Jaxxon Podcast.

As Shamrock says, he never ended up fighting again in the UFC despite being the light heavyweight champion. Shamrock ended up competing for Strikeforce and Elite XC as well as K1.

When asked if Frank Shamrock has any interest in rebuilding his relationship with Dana White, the former UFC champ said he has no interest in that.

“No, he’s a piece of crap. I have no interest, he’s not in my life. It’s the other reason why I’m not in the sport, he’s the figurehead of the sport and I don’t want anything to do with him or by proxy this sport,” Shamrock said.

With Shamrock and White not seeing eye-to-eye, the former champ is not in the UFC Hall of Fame and likely will never be.

Shamrock, the first-ever UFC light heavyweight champion, went 23-10-2 over the course of his 15-year career. Last competing in 2009, Frank Shamrock has been a strong advocate for brain health in recent years. In a lengthy social media post, the California native announced that he would be doing his brain to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, a non-profit organization that “works to advance studies into brain trauma in athletes and other significant at-risk groups.”

How Frank Shamrock Hopes to Help Advance CTE Research

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, is a progressive and fatal brain disease associated with repeated traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), including concussions and repeated blows to the head. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, individuals who have experienced TBI in their early to midlife face a significantly higher risk of developing dementia.

Despite being a hot-button issue in sports over the last two decades, CTE research still has a long way to go as a diagnosis of CTE can only be made after death. There is also no cure for the fatal brain disease if an individual shows symptoms that include memory loss and thinking problems, confusion, and erratic behavior.

Frank Shamrock hopes to help advance the research of CTE so that we can better understand the signs and effects, particularly for those who compete in contact sports like football, boxing, and mixed martial arts.

Throughout his illustrious career, Frank Shamrock set a series of records that still stand to this very day. Aside from being the first fighter to win championships in the UFC, WEC, and Strikeforce, Shamrock still holds the record for the fastest submission in UFC light heavyweight history, coming just 16 seconds into his UFC Japan bout against Kevin Jackson in 1997. Shamrock also holds the distinction of headlining the promotion’s first event in Brazil.
