The Korean Zombie Wants To Fight BJ Penn For His Comeback

The last time we saw Chan Sung Jung, “The Korean Zombie” as many prefer to call him, he was living up to his nickname as he tried to keep his arm from falling off during his bout with Jose Aldo. It was a true testament to his resolve and toughness that he was trying to pop his shoulder back into place in the middle of a fight. It’s that kind of grit that has had fans salivating for the return of The Korean Zombie for over thee years now. Well, good news is his military leave is up and he’s already been making the preparations for his return to the octagon. Jung also has an idea of who exactly he’d like to beat up upon his return.

The legend B.J. Penn.

The legend BJ Penn.

While many people, including myself, think that BJ Penn has nothing more to prove and should walk off into the sunset, there are a great many who are curious as to what the former lightweight and welterweight champion has left in the tank. His move to Jackson-Winklejohn MMA was a bit of a surprise, but one that could potential prove to be fruitful in the long run.

Chan Sung Jung has his sights set on Penn and seems to be pretty excited to not only do battle with a legend, but to return to action after sitting on the sidelines for so long. Check out the video update below as Chan Sung Jung readies himself for a return to battle.

If the fight were to happen, do you think The Korean Zombie has what it takes to beat down BJ Penn or would the veteran spoil Chan Sung Jung’s return?

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE: DAN HENDERSON’S TOP 7 SENSATIONAL FIGHTS

NOT HENDO…NEVER HENDO!

In case you haven’t heard Dan Henderson is no longer with us. No, he didn’t die (although he did nearly kill Michael Bisping) but he has finally retired from the UFC. Although he’s been flirting with the idea for years, it all still seems too soon as he finally called it quits last saturday in his UFC 204 rematch against Michael Bisping.

But how did he get here? How did he become the people’s champ after nearly 20 years of competition and 47 sanctioned bouts? Speak softly and carry a big right hand, that’s how. The knockout artist every man has something for everyone, blue collar for the rednecks, nice guy for the general public, true martial artist for the die hards, and pure K.O. power for everyone. What’s not to like? But even K.O. power needs the right opponent to take your name from a whisper to roar. Check out Dan Hendo’s six most pivotal fights that propelled him to super stardom.

1997 – Crezio de Souza – Brazil Open Result After competing in the Olympics as a Greco Roman wrestling, Dan Henderson though he’d try his hand at MMA. His first fight was in a Brazilian tournament called Valeo Detudo against Crezio de Sousa. He ended up knocking out Sousa at 5:25 into the bout as well as submitting Eric Smith via standing guillotine choke in the same night. Hendo: TKO

2001- Renzo Gracie – Pride 13– You don’t knockout 2001 Renzo Gracie in the first round, you just don’t. Dan Henderson however, did. He solidified his place in MMA history by becoming he first and only man to K.O. Renzo Gracie via right uppercut in the first round. It was raw power combined with perfect placement as Renzo shot for a takedown and Dan was there to meet him. Hendo:KO1

2017 – Wanderlei Silva II – Pride 33– After beating names like “Ninja” Rua and Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson became a star in Pride, but he still had some unfinished business. After losing against Wanderlei Silva the fist time, Henderson now had a chance to avenge his lost as well as gaining the middleweight (205) belt in the process. He saw his opportunity in the 3rd round where he laid Wanderlei flat with a sweeping right hook. He became the first man in history to hold two pride belts Hendo: KO3

Michael Bisping –  2009 – UFC 100- How could we leave out the infamous punch. What led up to the obliteration of Michael Bisping’s jaw was…well, Michael Bisping’s jaw. While coaching opposite Dan Henderson, Bisping ended up flapping his gums a little too much which gave Hendo a little extra muster for the fight. What was heard round the world wasn’t the 2nd round knockout, it was the aerobatic air jordan style follow up to the already in “la la land” Bisping Putting a devastating exclamation mark to the end of the fight. Hendo:KKO2

2011 – Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson Could there be a more fitting fight to the end of Dan Henderson’s career? I don’t think so. In the July 30th bout, Hendo tasted the onslaught that is Fedor and survived, only to dish out some raw power of his own in which he ended the fight 4:12 into round 1. RD: 1, Hendo KO

2011 – UFC Fight Night – Shogun RUA In probably one of the greatest fights in MMA history, Dan Henderson engaged in a 5 round war! The scene was set, it was Henderson’s first UFC fight back since his recent stint in strikeforce, there were a lot of questions of whether he could still cut it. Though not the 1st round K.O. we’re used to from Dan Henderson, this fight did not disappoint with back and forth action that saw Henderson getting his hand raised. Hendo: RD 1 KO

2014 – UFC Fight Night – Shogun Rua II – While their first fight was a vicious war of attrition, this one ended with more of an exclamation point. After his pulling out of the Jon Jones fight and the three fight losing streak to top names Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, and Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson was looking to get back in the win Column. In the second matchup between these two pride legends, Shogun appeared to have Dan’s number, outpointing him on the feet and nearly having the fight stopped. Dan Henderson regained himself in the third round and a right hand that dropped Shogun and eventually put him away. Hendo: RD 3, K.O.

Rumor Mill: Matt Brown vs Mike Perry Is The Slobber-Knocker We All Deserve

If this is true, then color me impressed. Talk about great match making. Matt Brown and Mike Perry may be set to lock horns at UFC 207 in Las Vegas later this year. Mike Perry is still pretty fresh as a UFC prospect, but has already done enough to garner interest in his contest. He has a polarizing personality, but can back everything up with some well placed power shots. Matt Brown is an absolute beast and even though he may have lost to Jake Ellenberger in his last outing, it doesn’t change the fact that he has the mentality of a warrior. Matching these two up means guaranteed fireworks in the Octagon. So how exactly do these two match up anyways?

Matt Brown is an absolute beast and even though he may have lost to Jake Ellenberger in his last outing, it doesn’t change the fact that he has the mentality of a warrior. Matching these two up means guaranteed fireworks in the Octagon. So how exactly do these two match up anyways?

Well, Matt Brown is a man who knows to fight only one way: coming forward with reckless abandon. While his style may have resembled brawling at one point in his career, at this stage it’s become more of a controlled and technical style that thrives on forward momentum and chaos. When Brown has his man hurt or cornered you can bet a ton of strikes from punches to elbows, to knees and kicks will be flying. Brown has the kind of style that overwhelms individuals and forces them into a defensive shell.

Which makes this match all the more interesting.

From what can be assessed of Mike Perry’s style, one thing is certain. He rarely takes a backwards step and carries his power into the later rounds. Just a couple of weeks ago we got to see Mike Perry demonstrate why he’s such a dangerous opponent as he took out Danny Roberts at UFC 204. What Perry lacks in head movement he makes up for in shear power and aggression. Perry believes in his chin and his power which always makes for a dangerous mix for both him and his opponents. It’s dangerous for Perry to rely on his chin not giving out in order to land his own shots. That said, it gives his opponents a certain amount of fear as he comes forward. They know he has power and if they’re unable to hurt him they can likely become gun-shy. But Matt Brown isn’t the type of man to back down.

Will this dream fight come to fruition or is it just that, a pipe dream?

Why The Savage Doo Ho Choi Is The Man To Watch At Featherweight

These days it seems that the only thing people are talking about in regards to the featherweight division is whether Conor McGregor will hold onto the strap forever or relinquish it to free the division up. Another point of interest at featherweight is whether Jose Aldo will retire or not.

These days it seems that the only thing people are talking about in regards to the featherweight division is whether Conor McGregor will hold onto the strap forever or relinquish it to free the division up. Another point of interest at featherweight is whether Jose Aldo will retire or not. But for the most part most of the attention these days has been placed on whether or not Conor McGregor can beat Eddie Alvarez or how Ronda Rousey will look when she returns. As an avid, okay okay, rabid MMA fan, my concern is squarely on the up and comers that are set to shine in the near future. One fighter in particular who fits the bill is Doo Ho Choi.

There are a lot of people who believe this kid could be the best fighter to come out of South Korea since Chan Sung Jung. Doo Ho Choi has the kind of power that can turn anyone’s lights out, but more than that, his overall game is so damn impressive it can’t be ignored. He has a solid ground game, loves to create scrambles, and isn’t afraid to go submission for submission in the grappling department.

But make no mistake, it’s his striking that rules the day.

Doo Ho Choi has the kind of striking prowess that make fighters like Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor, and Max Holloway a pleasure to watch for both the casual and hardcore fans alike. So far in his UFC career “The Korean Superboy” has been looking as dangerous as any of the aforementioned fighters above. With the announcement of his UFC 206 bout against Cub Swanson, the whole world is going to have the opportunity to see just how far Doo Ho Choi can go.

What makes Choi so dangerous is his precision. He doesn’t waste energy on wild punching combinations. If he’s throwing hands it’s either to set something up or to land crushing finishing blows that usually lead to some fantastical knock out. Cub Swanson is the perfect test for Doo Ho Choi. Choi asked for the fight and now he has to back up his talk. But just as a little reminder of how dangerous this guy is, here’s a little highlight reel of his work.

Do you think Doo Ho Choi will challenge for the featherweight title some day?

RUMORVILLE: CONOR MCGREGOR GETS KO’D DURING SPARRING, WILL HIS CHIN HOLD UP?

http://www.cagepotato.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Conor-McGregor-sparring.jpeg

Conor McGregor is headlining UFC 205. The reason I say Conor McGregor is because he could be fighting anyone with the 155 tite and people would still give their hard earned bucks to tune in,(no offense Eddie Alvarez). However, despite his bombastic talk, he is human, and is definitely beatable.

Bit by bit, crumb by crumb…

Conor McGregor is headlining UFC 205. The reason I say Conor McGregor is because he could be fighting anyone with the 155 tite and people would still give their hard earned bucks to tune in,(no offense Eddie Alvarez). However, despite his bombastic talk, he is human, and is definitely beatable.

In his 2 matches with Nate Diaz we learned 3 things, his Jiu Jitsu could be better, his gas tank is good but not great, and he will wobble if you hit him on the button. In the first fight particularly it seemed Diaz hit him with a combination that caused him to move in slow motion. This took away his cardio as well as much of his power. In the second fight he almost suffered the same fate but Diaz couldn’t get him to the ground and he didn’t make the same mistake of shooting on a black belt.

In recent news it seems there might be another chink in the armor. According to rumorville, Conor McGregor may have been knocked out by a training partner. When asked for comment, coach John Kavanagh didn’t address the issue directly claiming he wanted to to teach us to “think critically.”

“because I’m trying to teach you how to think critically. Otherwise my time wasted on the next silly rumor and the one after that”

Thanks for the lesson Mr. Kavanagh but I don’t think it’s a ridiculous question at all. When fighters spar they sometime get hurt, possibly knocked out, why is Conor the exception?

His upcoming fight will be against a smothering wrestler with knockout power, whose hands get better with every fight. We know that Conor relies on his granite chin to walk through shots and come in with his hands down, could this be a recipe for disaster. While I still think Conor gets the nod when it comes to striking, is his granite chin slowly becoming finite?

It’s funny because he called out fighters for being worn down after many wars. If his fight with the brutal Eddie Alvarez is a grueling one, could he become a victim of his own prophecy.

Look Who’s Coming Back To The Cage: Ronda Rousey To Face Amanda Nunes At UFC 207

It appears as if Ronda Rousey will be making her long awaited return to the Octagon as she is set to face off with current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

While many have been speculating for some time now whether or not Ronda Rousey would make a return to mixed martial arts, it appears that UFC President Dana White has put those discussions to rest as the former champion looks to take back the belt.

The bout is set to go down at UFC 207 with more bouts to be announced in the coming weeks. Ronda is certainly going to have her hands full with Amanda Nunes, but perhaps the time away from the spotlight has allowed her time to lick her wounds and improve on her game. Here’s hoping for a barnburner of a fight.

What’s your thoughts on this recent development?
