Add George Sullivan to the growing list of UFC fighters to come under the eye of the USADA.

Sullivan was given a provisional suspension after disclosing that he took a prohibited substance.

In July, Sullivan was knocked out by Alexander Yakovlev at UFC on FOX 18 in a prelim bout.

Below is the complete statement from the promotion:

“UFC was made aware today by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, that it has informed George Sullivan of a potential anti-doping violation and provisional suspension based on his declaration of a prohibited substance. UFC previously announced that Sullivan voluntarily disclosed this information to USADA and, out of an abundance of caution, Sullivan was removed by UFC from his scheduled bout on July 23, 2016, in Chicago. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, Sullivan’s declaration of the use can be taken into consideration by USADA during the results management and adjudication process.

“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, a full and fair legal review process is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”

It looks like the USADA Anti-Doping Policy has struck again.

George Sullivan is reportedly out of his scheduled fight against Hector Urbina at this Saturday’s UFC On FOX 20 event in Chicago for attempting to comply with the Anti-Doping Policy.

UFC’s statement on the matter reads as follows:

“UFC competitor George Sullivan voluntarily disclosed information to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) that could pose a potential compliance issue with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy. Out of an abundance of caution, Sullivan has been removed from his scheduled bout on Saturday night against Hector Urbina while USADA conducts an investigation into the matter. Urbina will still weigh in as a potential backup opponent should there be a need for him to compete in another bout on Saturday. Otherwise, he will be re-booked for another card in the near future.”

Headlined by Holly Holm vs. Valentina Shevchenko, UFC On FOX 20 is scheduled to go down on Saturday, July 23rd from Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
