MMAJunkie says the two are reportedly set to meet in the cage this June 18th in Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum. The article clarifies the fight has yet to be signed by either party, but should the tilt happen, both fighters will have an axe to grind as each of their last fights were the first losses suffered on their professional records.

Gina Carano, the MMA Fighter turned star of Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire (which hits theaters this summer) is set to make her return to the Strikeforce cage on June 18th under the headliners for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament: Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum. Carano is already training for her upcoming bout and has made headlines with her switch from Xtreme Couture to Jackson’s Submission Fighting camp.

Many names have been kicked around as a possible opponent for Carano, including this pregnant chick, but she’s obviously out, so Carano has no official opponent yet. But we’re really excited and if we could dream up a match for Carano, it would probably be Bellator’s super sexy Zoila [Frausto] Gurgel even though they’re not anywhere near the same weight class, so we’ll settle for Erin Toughill. Some say a true fighter can’t stay away for long, and though Gina Carano took a long hiatus from the cage since her only professional loss to Christiane “Cyborg” Santos in 2009, Carano is ready to return and avenge that blemish. Carano said at Saturday’s Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva event:

“I felt that I needed to settle the score for myself,” she said. “I need to get back in there for me.”

Carano says she plans to return “soon” as she has completed filming in her first starring role for the Steven Soderbergh film, “Haywire” but did not say where she is training specifically, except that she is training in Las Vegas. WEC Bantamweight Champion and newly UFC belted Bantamweight Champion, Dominick Cruz went into his fight last night with a hand injury that has been in need of surgery since before his last fight with Joseph Benavidez, where he successfully defended his title. Again, last night he dominated over Scott Jorgensen for 5 rounds and came out victorious but was scheduled for hand surgery after the bout. Now news is swirling that TUF 13 will be coached by Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber. Cruz recently told MMAFighting that hand surgery will wait, so he can coach TUF: here.
