John Hackleman has retired from cornering fights after an intense main event at UFC 283. The long-time coach was octagon side to support his prodigy Glover Teixeira who competed against Jamahal Hill for the vacant UFC heavyweight title.

It was a tough night for team Teixeira as Hill would dominate the fight to win UFC gold for the first time. After the fourth round, Hackleman wanted to stop the fight but was “outvoted” by his fellow cornermen. In an interview with MMA Fighting, Hackleman admitted that he thought it was a good time to end the fight going into the fifth and final round.

I’m a known fight-stopper in between rounds,” Hackleman said. “I’m kind of known for that, maybe a little too much at times. But I thought this was a good time to stop it. I was outvoted in the corner.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

John Hackleman Wants to Protect His Fighters

“The Pit” founder and coach said he has experience stopping fights in the past and noted brain damage as one of the key reasons. Despite wanting to stop the fight at UFC 283, Hackleman is “thankful” that it wasn’t and Teixeira was able to continue. He did stay by his stance on wanting the fight ended.

I’m thankful they didn’t [stop it],” Hackleman said. “I know this wouldn’t have gone well with anyone. It would have made a lot of people really unhappy, and I don’t want it to be about me. I would have thrown it in after the third. I would have been completely happy with the fight stopping there. I saw no reason for it to go on after that.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

Hill became the first Dana White’s Contender Series alumni to win a UFC title. Teixeira would lay his gloves in the middle of the octagon and announce his retirement from in-ring competition following his loss in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hackleman will follow suit and retire from cornering fighters.

That’s my last cornering,” he said. “I’m never going to work a corner again.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

Hackleman founded “The Pit” in Woodland Hills, California in 1986. Several notable fighters trained at the MMA training camp, including Chuck Liddel, Tito Ortiz, Tim Kennedy, and Jake Shields to name a few.

Jiri Prochazka Jamahal Hill UFC 283

After an aggressive slugfest, Jamahal Hill has been crowned as the UFC’s newest light heavyweight champion. Jiri Prochazka, the man who recently vacated the title due to injury, has a congratulatory but intimidating message for the new champion.

Things got explosive at UFC 283, and although the fight was no easy victory, Jamahal Hill became the first Dana White‘s Contender Series alumni to realize his dream of becoming a UFC champion.

Hill faced Glover Teixeira for the UFC light heavyweight title, and after five hard-fought rounds, things were very clear. Jamahal Hill had done enough to garner the decision victory over Teixeira and officially capture the vacated title of Jiri Prochazka.

Jiri Prochazka makes chilling congratulatory message to Jamahal Hill after impressive UFC 283 victory

Last seen in action at UFC 275, Jiri Prochazka also realized his dreams of becoming a champion that night: defeating the humble legend Glover Teixeira as well. In what was one of the greatest back-and-forth title fights of all time, fans were treated to a true nail-biter that night.

Momentum swung either way, multiple times. Finally, events reached a conclusion in the fifth round when Prochazka managed to lock in a rear-naked choke on Teixeira and force the tap. It was a legendary fight, fully solidifying the pure excitement that either fighter was when trapped in a cage. Sadly, before either man could run it back, injury struck.

A horrific shoulder injury would rear its ugly head when Prochazka took a bad landing when receiving a suplex in training, by his own admission. This would derail the Czech samurai for nine months, forcing the UFC to find a suitable replacement for him. This made way for Jamahal Hill, granting him the opportunity to capture gold at UFC 283.

On Instagram after the event, Jiri Prochazka would deliver a chilling message. Standing in a frozen, snow-covered field stood ‘Denisa’. Large snowflakes enveloped him, floating past his face or landing on him. Calmly, the former champion said: “Congratulations.”

He stood in silence for a brief moment before continuing: “I’m coming…” He began marching forward in the snowy field and then screamed at the top of his lungs, a manic expression of violence on his face: “I’m coming!”

What’s your thoughts on Jiri Prochazka’s intense message to Jamahal Hill?

Glover Teixeira Retire UFC 283

Former undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira has bowed out from the sport of mixed martial arts on his own terms – highlighting his toughness in a five round, unanimous decision loss to Jamahal Hill at UFC 283, before announcing his retirement.

Teixeira, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, headlined UFC 283 in his native Brazil last night at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, challenging the aforenoted, Hill for the vacant 205lbs championship.

Glover Teixeira claims he’s too “tough” for his own health following UFC 283

Suffering a unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) loss to the Dana White’s Contender Series product – who subsequently becomes the first fighter promoted from the show to strike UFC gold, Teixeira announced his intentions to retire from MMA with immediate effect, following compatriot and former champion, Shogun Rua by placing his gloves on the Octagon canvas.

In reality, I think I’m too tough for my own good,” Glover Teixeira said through an interpreter. “Too tough for my own health. I can’t keep up anymore. I’m gonna focus my energy on Alex Pereria, on ‘Po-Atan’. He’s gonna keep his [middleweight] belt for a while and then go up to light heavyweight.”

It’s an honor to put on the gloves down on the same night as Shogun (Rua),” Glover Teixeira said. “I wish we were in the Royce Gracie era where you just go no rounds and keep going. But we’re not, and I just can’t keep up anymore.”

Clinching the undisputed light heavyweight title back in October 2021 in the main event of UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Teixeira managed to submit former champion, Jan Blachowicz in a second round rear-naked choke effort.

The victory came as the Minas Gerais veteran’s sixth consecutively, as part of a run which saw him dispatch Ion Cutelaba, Karl Roberson, Nikita Krylov, Anthony Smith, and Thiago Santos before defeating Blachowicz for gold on ‘Fight Island’.
