Kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki will no longer be competing in the UFC.

It was reported Monday by Beyond Kickboxing that the light heavyweight was released by the promotion and will begin a new chapter in his career elsewhere.

It could be a return to his old sport as the kickboxing legend hinted at it in some social media posts recently.

Last week, the 37-year-old posted an image of his fight with GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven asking his fans who they’d like to see him fight next.

Another post saw him decked out in kickboxing gear with an interesting caption.

For now, all we can do is wait and see what’s next for Saki.

Saki made his UFC debut in September 2017 when he knocked out Henrique da Silva in the first round of their light heavyweight bout.

His next outing, however, didn’t go his way as he was knocked out by Khalil Rountree Jr. in the first round of their UFC 226 clash in July 2018.

Saki hasn’t competed since then due to a number of injury issues. He leaves the UFC with a 1-1 record and an overall MMA record of 1-2.

Where do you think Saki should go next? Remain in MMA or return to kickboxing?

There is finally some news regarding Gokhan Saki.

The light heavyweight hasn’t competed since July 2018 when he suffered a shock first-round knockout against Khalil Rountree. He was briefly linked with a fight against Saparbeg Safarov later on in March last year but that came to an end after he suffered an injury.

Having been out of the spotlight since, the former Glory kickboxing champion finally delivered an update on Monday as he revealed he had undergone the first of two surgeries to repair his fractured elbows.

He will undergo the second surgery soon, but is hopeful of returning to training in a few weeks.

“Update for my followers. After a year of pain and injections in my elbows they found out that in my both elbows I have fractured pieces. That caused pain and inflammations.

“My first surgery is done and it went ?. Second to come. Within a few weeks I can resume the training hopefully without any pain and obstacles. For every level, there is another devil, that’s life. But remember the darker the night, the brighter the morning so we never ever give up. Keep you guys posted. Thank you all.”

Saki returned to mixed martial arts in 2017 after suffering defeat in his debut fight back in 2004. He defeated Henrique da Silva via knockout in his UFC debut before suffering his second professional defeat to Rountree.

Who do you want to see Saki face in his eventual return?

UFC 226 emanated tonight (Saturday, July 7, 2018) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card capped International Fight Week, the main attraction of which featured a heavyweight superfight between 265-pound king Stipe Miocic and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. DC would become just the second simultaneous two-division champion with a shocking first-round knockout of Miocic. Not only does he seem to have a money fight upcoming against Brock Lesnar, but he walks away $50,000 richer with one of the night’s four Performance of the Night bonuses.

Anthony Pettis picked up a much-needed win, submitting Michael Chiesa with a second-round triangle choke. Chiesa seemed drained after the first few minutes, perhaps hampered by the bad weight cut that saw him miss the mark. Pettis found his footing after a few scrambles in round one. At the opening of the second, Pettis hurt Chiesa, went for a guillotine, and eventually transitioned to the fight-ending choke. He banked an extra $50,000 for his efforts as well.

Khalil Rountree picked up the most significant and emphatic win of his career on the main card as well. Taking on decorated kickboxer-turned-MMA fighter Gokhan Saki, Rountree was undeterred. He dropped Saki with a counter left hand early, pounding with hammerfists to finish the job. Rountree will wake up tomorrow $50,000 richer for his Performance of the Night.

Lastly, the featured prelim saw middleweight hitters Paulo Costa and Uriah Hall go back and forth for about eight minutes. Costa consistently backed Hall up and smashed home massive hooks to the head and body. Hall jabbed, leg kicked, and hit several spinning back kicks to the body. Early in round two, Hall rocked Costa with a hook inside. The Brazilian quickly recovered, though, and resumed his assault with renewed vigor. Moments later, he collapsed Hall with a series of close-quarter power punches, earning the most significant win of his career and an extra $50,000 to boot.

The post Khalil Rountree Stuns Gokhan Saki With First-Round KO appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Gokhan Saki has been stunned by Khalil Rountree.

Light heavyweight action opened up the main card of UFC 226. Saki and Rountree traded leather inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was just the third professional mixed martial arts bout in Saki’s career, but he is renowned for his kickboxing.

The tables have turned.

Saki opened up with a leg kick. He went high with a kick, but it was blocked. Rountree threw a heavy right hand, which was blocked. A massive left hand dropped Saki. Rountree finished it off with ground-and-pound. Stunning. The finish is the most surprising part of this fight, as Saki is a former Glory kickboxing light heavyweight champion. Clearly, that didn’t deter Rountree.
