Titan Fighting Championship has announced the signing of Lashley, who will fight James Jack on March 25 in a show televised on HDNet. The card will also feature former UFC star Phil Baroni taking on a little-known fighter named Nick Nolte.

For Titan, signing Lashley is a strong indication that the promotion is willing to spend money to acquire recognizable names. The promotion also spent big to acquire Tim Sylvia, who was knocked out in 32 seconds by Abe Wagner last month. The question is whether Titan can build enough of a following among MMA fans to justify the expenses of fighters like Sylvia and Lashley.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia is done as a relevant mixed martial artist.

In a result reminiscent of his embarrassing knockout loss to the boxer Ray Mercer, Sylvia showed up overweight and out of shape on Friday night for his bout with Abe Wagner on the Titan FC 16 card in Kansas City, and the result was Wagner battering him around the cage for 32 seconds before Sylvia fell face-first to the canvas, and the referee waved off the fight, awarding Wagner a quick TKO.

It was an indecisive stoppage by ref Jason Herzog, but not a bad stoppage: Sylvia didn’t seem to know where he was when he crumpled to the canvas, and he wasn’t intelligently defending himself.

Sylvia, who weighed in at 311 pounds on Friday, falls to 28-7. He was once among the sport’s truly elite fighters, but that was a long time ago. Sylvia no longer takes his conditioning seriously, and although he did enter Friday night on a four-fight winning streak, he’s just never been the same fighter since losing three straight fights to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Fedor Emelianenko and Mercer in 2008 and 2009.

After years of a relationship that could best be termed “sometimes rocky,” billionaire businessman and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has settled his differences with UFC president Dana White – at least enough for the UFC to open the door for Cuban’s TV network, HDNet.

Cuban made the announcement on Friday’s episode of “Inside MMA,” a weekly mixed martial arts interview and highlights show that airs on HDNet with hosts Kenny Rice and former King of Pancrase champion Bas Rutten.

Cuban said the network will now be granted access to Zuffa events and will be able to use video highlights after fights. And he said Rice and Rutten would be at UFC events as part of the “Inside MMA” show.

On tonight’s episode of HDNet’s Inside MMA, the guest panel is shown an inflammatory clip from New York Assemblyman, Bob Reilly, in which the oblivious councillor compares "Ultimate Fighting" to dogfighting and prostitution, and let’s just say the guests are not impressed.

Before we get to that, here’s what Reilly’s latest bout of verbal diarrhea contained:

"Wait! Let’s have dogfighting and make money. We could make money off of dogfighting. We might make more money off of dogfighting than we could make out of human fighting. We certainly could make money off of prostitution as they do in Nevada. We don’t want prostitution here and we don’t want dogfighting here and we don’t want Ultimate Fighting here."
