UFC 204 went down in a blaze of excitement last night (Saturday October 8). Headlining the Manchester pay-per-view were fierce rivals Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson. After ‘Hendo’ scored an iconic KO over Bisping at UFC 100, ‘The Count’ ignored rankings in favor of revenge on home soil. Following five hard rounds, Bisping got what he wanted in the form of a decision win. The UD has been debated though, as some fans feel Henderson had done enough to win.

Scoring knockdowns in the first and second round, Henderson showed age is but a number. Rocking Bisping with his patented right hand, Henderson came within a hair’s breadth of taking the belt. Had he done so, the former two-weight Pride FC champ would have broken a myriad of records. Hats off to both warriors for such a thrilling fight. Looking at the strike stats, Bisping certainly got off the bigger volume of punches. Check them out for yourself:

UFC 204 Strike Stats

Aside from round one, Michael Bisping clearly out-landed Dan Henderson. The question of knockdowns and power over total numbers of strikes landed is once again raised. Were Henderson’s two ‘H-Bomb’ knockdowns worthy of the 10-8 round that rarely gets scored in MMA? The judging patterns in the UFC are highly debated, and most feel they are in need of an overhaul. Here’s a look at the round-by-round strike stats of Bisping vs. Henderson at UFC 204:

UFC 204 is finally here, as the Manchester Arena prepares to welcome their hometown hero to the octagon. Michael Bisping, for the first time in his UFC career, will enter the main event as the middleweight champion. Its been a very long road, 26 UFC fights with 19 wins and seven losses, as ‘The Count’ looks for revenge at UFC 204. Defeating Dan Henderson would mean so much to Bisping, after ‘Hendo’ scored an epic UFC 100 KO over the current champ. Facing his rival on home soil in Manchester, England is almost poetic for Bisping.

Winning in the UK tonight would also make Bisping the most successful UFC fighter ever in terms of wins. Currently tied with former welterweight king Georges St-Pierre, ‘The Count’ will score his 20th victory if he gets vengeance against Henderson. Summing up an illustrious career, Henderson will look to walk out of the sport as the UFC middleweight champ. Having won titles in Strikeforce, two in Pride FC, and many others, ‘Hendo’ will undoubtedly feature in the hall of fame, regardless of the result tonight.

Talk

There’s been a lot of talk heading in to the UFC 204 main event, a lot of it’s been centered on TRT and steroids. Michael Bisping accused Dan Henderson of cheating before their first fight, but ‘Hendo’ has responded with some accusations of his own. Although not as intense as their original rivalry, Bisping vs. Henderson 2 has way more on the line. Legacy, the title and of course bragging rights hang in the balance.

During the traditional weigh-ins face-off last night (Friday October 7), Bisping and Henderson got up close and personal. Courtesy of MMA Fighting on Twitter, here’s what happened when the two old rivals squared off in Manchester:

“Guys, this is the pinnacle of my career, it doesn’t get any better than this,” he began. I’m the champion. I’m defending it in Manchester.”

“Someone shut this d***head up over here. Mate, you’re going down, pal. F**k you! F**k Henderson! Manchester, let’s f*****g do this!”

How do you see this intense rematch playing out? Michael Bisping’s striking has certainly looked very sharp in recent footage, but who can deny the chance of that infamous H-Bomb landing again?

UFC 204 hits the Manchester Arena on Saturday October 8. Fighting for revenge in front of his home crowd is UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, as he battles his old foe Dan Henderson. When the two first met at UFC 100, it was ‘Hendo’ who scored the brutal knockout victory. ‘The Count’ went on to win the championship against Luke Rockhold at UFC 199, and an unlikely rematch was set almost immediately. Although ranked outside the top 10, Henderson gets one final chance at UFC gold before calling it a day.

Former champion in two weight classes Vitor Belfort hopes to bounce back from the TKO loss he suffered at UFC 198, but he faces a big challenge in Gegard Mousasi. ‘The Dreamcacther’ has found his form in recent fights, and ‘The Phenom’ gives up eight years in age. Ovince St-Preux battles Jimi Manuwa, heavyweights Stefan Struve and Daniel Omielanczuk collide, with featherweights Mirsad Bektic and Russell Doane opening the main card.

UFC 204 will see two of the longest-serving UFC veterans collide in an epic rematch. UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping wants revenge. He’ll get the chance to do it on home soil against Dan Henderson. ‘Hendo’ famously knocked out Bisping in a historic moment at UFC 100. The brutality of that KO has never stopped haunting ‘The Count.’ Once he took the belt from Luke Rockhold at UFC 199, Henderson was the fight Bisping immediately mentioned.

Ranked at number 13, another UFC title run would have been extremely unlikely for Henderson. The American wrestler and former two-weight Pride FC champion had already made his plans for retirement. Ironically on the same card as Bisping-Rockhold, ‘Hendo’ scored a trademark come-from-behind KO against Hector Lombard. It wsn’t until Bisping started calling for a rematch that Henderson even considered fighting on.

Possible Outcomes

This weekend’s (Saturday October 8, 2016) UFC 204 main event has many possible outcomes. We’ll take a look at the potential for mayhem if Dan Henderson is victorious, but also at how a win for Bisping would truly place him amongst the greatest fighters in UFC history.

Hendo KO’s Bisping…Again

Although 46 years of age, ‘Dangerous’ Dan Henderson still lives up to his moniker. Capable of finishing a fight with a single patented H-Bomb, Henderson continues to defy the odds when he fights. Smashing Hector Lombard with a back elbow at UFC 199 showed just how unpredictable and powerful ‘Hendo’s’ striking can be. What would be the outcome of Henderson snatching the UFC middleweight crown at this late stage in his career?

Dan Henderson

Sunset or More Legacy

With a victory over Bisping at UFC 199, Dan Henderson would become the oldest ever fighter to win a UFC title. Randy Couture currently holds that distinction at 43 years 255 days of age. Should he claim that epic record, Henderson has two choices; ride off in to the sunset as champion, or continue for a few dollars more. Many times UFC stars fight on too long, and so the next fight will prove a litmus test for where Henderson’s capabilities are. He’s already said he’d consider a couple more bouts if he does win the title, and in that case he could chase Couture’s other age-related record of oldest fighter to win a UFC bout (47 years 68 days).

‘Captain America’ also holds the record for oldest fighter to defend a UFC title (44 years 65 days), which could be possible for Henderson to break should the stars align. It’s a steep hill to climb, and ‘The Count’ looked better than ever in his last fight, but if anyone can do it. What about the other end of the scale, what happens if Michael Bisping gets his revenge against Dan Henderson?

Bisping

Revenge & Greatness

Scoring revenge at UFC 204 would mean a great deal to Michael Bisping’s career. Having fought for the UFC for over 10 years now, the brash Brit is currently the most accomplished middleweight (in terms of wins). His 15 octagon victories are the most in the 185-pound division’s history. Defeating ‘Hendo’ at UFC 204 would give Bisping the most victories in the promotion’s history at 20. To say this fight is pivotal would be understatement of the year.

The UFC 204 main event is career defining for both men, but for ‘The Count’ it could be the first step towards becoming one of the all-time greats. Picture this-having already defeated Anderson Silva and Luke Rockhold in his last two fights, Michael Bisping takes out his old rival Dan Henderson before facing the killers row at 185 pounds. If the Englishman can emerge on the other side of that dangerous venture still holding the crown, who could possibly deny his entry to the UFC hall of fame?

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping wasted no time in lining up his first opponent. Once he’d knocked out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 there were many options available, but Bisping only wanted one fight. The 37-year old wanted another fight with his old rival Dan Henderson. The ageing former Pride FC champion got one over on ‘The Count’ at UFC 100, handing him a highlight reel knockout loss that was both amazing and brutal.

The promotion picked up on the appeal of the rematch and ran with it, booking the two bitter enemies in for a second dance at UFC 204. The bout will go down in Manchester, England, but will air in line with US times. The main card will kick off at 3 AM local time. Since the fight was reported there’s been a lot of heat from Hendo and Bisping. The Englishman accused his American foe of taking steroids, also claiming Henderson would cheat for UFC 204.

Bisping and Hendo

Official Announcement

The promotion officially announced today that Bisping vs. Henderson would headline UFC 204. Six other big fights were also confirmed for the English card, but it’s that main event that has fans and fighters both happy and angry. Many feel the 45-year old Henderson is jumping too many legitimate contenders in the queue at 185 pounds. These contenders include Yoel Romero, Chris Weidman and Jacare Souza to name a few.

Bisping took to Instagram today to respond to the announcement, and also gave a message to the haters:

The era of ‘money fights’ is officially here, and it’s not just Bisping cashing in on this current trend. Look no further than Tyron Woodley or Conor McGregor to see that rankings are rapidly losing their already waning legitimacy. Whether this is good or bad for the sport is yet to be seen, but it certainly makes for some very interesting fights.

For instance, how crazy would it be if Henderson rode off in to the sunset with a UFC title on his back? That’s the ultimate mic-drop moment.

Here’s how the UFC 204 card looks so far:

Michael Bisping v Dan Henderson
Gegard Mousasi v Vitor Belfort
Jimi Manuwa v Ovince Saint Preux
Stefan Struve v Ruslan Magomedov
Brad Pickett v Iuri Alcantara
Davey Grant v Damian Stasiak
Adriano Martins v Leonardo Santos

Michael Bisping Calls Dan Henderson ‘Cheating Old Piece Of Sh*t’

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping finally made it to the top of the stack at UFC 199, claiming the belt from his bitter rival Luke Rockhold in dominant fashion. Avenging his 2014 loss to ‘Rocky,’ the English 10-year UFC veteran placed a precise flurry of punches to the jaw of Rockhold, sending him to the canvas with his eyes rolling in the back of his head. Quite the finish from Bisping, and a dream come true after so many losses in title contender fights.

‘The Count’ had said that taking the fight with Rockhold on short notice would actually benefit rather than hinder his progress at UFC 199, but few believed that would be the case. As it turns out, not ‘over thinking’ and ‘over training’ really paid off, and now the British banger is enjoying the spoils of the coveted title.

BispingCelebratesRockholdKO

But there’s unfinished business in many forms for the new 185-pound champion. Firstly, the feud with Rockhold is far from over. They shared a hate-filled post-fight press conference on June 4, where Bisping took every opportunity to belittle and mock his fallen opponent. It was bitter-sweet in many ways, as following their first fight Rockhold was far more respectful, but at the least you can say ‘The Count’ is no boring champ.

But his trash talking did land Bisping in a very compromising position in the past against Dan Henderson. The two had served as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter reality show, where the outspoken Englishman really got under the skin of the American MMA hero. The resulting knockout win for ‘Hendo’ at UFC 100 will go down as one of the greatest and most replayed finishes in the promotion’s history.

dan-henderson-michael-bisping-115[1]

Few can forget that iconic snapshot in time, a moment where Henderson put to rest the beef with Bisping in front of a jubilant partisan crowd. Among those who haven’t forgotten is Bisping himself, and he recently stated he’d love to get the rematch with ‘Hendo’ as his first title defense, and as Henderson’s retirement fight.

But now he’s taken it a step further, totally blasting his old foe in an explicit tirade during this recent interview.
