Despite continued speculation regarding an immediate championship rematch for Israel Adesanya following upset loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 last weekend, the City Kickboxing has nothing to fear for regarding his chances of fighting for gold again, with ex-two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo labelling him as “Dana White’s boy”.

Headlining UFC 293 earlier this month in Sydney, Australia, Adesanya dropped a one-sided unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) loss to Covina native, Strickland in the Octagon’s return ‘Down Under’, suffering his first official knockdown during his time under the promotion’s banner to boot.

And despite losing four of five rounds in a relatively comprehensive decision loss to Xtreme Couture, Strickland, Adesanya was immediately pegged as a potential candidate to challenge the newly-minted titleholder, Strickland – in the form of an immediate rematch.

Receiving falk for a potential booking of Adesanya opposite Strickland in another immediate championship re-run, UFC CEO, White has since claimed there are more options for the middleweight title’s future, than just a rematch.

However, as far as Olympic gold medalist and former flyweight and bantamweight champion, Cejudo is concerned, Adesanya will likely to receive another title outing next, due to White’s apparent “love” for him.

“After losing four rounds to one, does he (Israel Adesanya) deserve a rematch now? No,” Henry Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe it, Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe it, the rest of the whole damn world doesn’t believe it. Will he get it? One hundred percent. When you’re Dana White’s boy, when you’re his cash cow, when you’re an entertainer and when you’ve done special things like Israel and you’ve been able to kind of grow the sport, Dana White will give you that opportunity.”

“My question is for you, Israel: is it smart for you to take a fight against a guy like Sean Strickland?” Henry Cejudo continued. “Is Sean Strickland the guy to come back after being dominated in a five round fight? I didn’t see that spark in him. It was a trip. It’s not like Sean Strickland even did anything special either. He fought him the way he fought everybody else, and he was able to win.”

Newly minted bantamweight world champion Sean O’Malley believes he can teach Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo a thing or two about wrestling.

On August 19, ‘Sugar’ went from standout to superstar with a perfectly-timed counter right hand that sent his opponent, Aljamain Sterling, crashing to the canvas in spectacular fashion in the second round of their UFC 292 title tilt.

Sean O’Malley’s impressive win over the ‘Funk Master’ largely hinged upon his ability to fend off Sterling’s relentless takedown attempts. Appearing on the Believe You Me podcast with former middleweight titleholder Michael Bisping, ‘Sugar’ suggested that his speed and ability to hit a target from long distances make it incredibly difficult for wrestlers to implement their game plan against him.

“Aljamain Sterling was not expecting me to be as fast as I was,” O’Malley said. “And it drives me crazy when people are like ‘Why didn’t he wrestle, why didn’t he try to wrestle?’ I’m standing about 42 feet away from you and still being able to hit you, and these guys can’t get in on me. It’s not as easy as trying to grab my leg.”

Sean O’Malley now finds himself with a massive target on his back and practically everyone is aiming for the bullseye.

Determined to defend his title at UFC 296 in December, O’Malley has a plethora of potential title challengers. One of which includes former two-division titleholder Henry Cejudo. From the moment ‘Sugar’ strapped on the gold, ‘Triple C’ has been targeting him with a series of verbal insults dripping with his signature cringe style of trash-talk.

Speaking about a potential clash with Cejudo, Sean O’Malley suggested that he could teach ‘Triple C’ a thing or two about wrestling after doing something Cejudo couldn’t against Aljamain Sterling.

“[Sterling] couldn’t [wrestle more]. That was 100% his goal, it was no secret what our game plans were. I executed mine better. And even when he did get me up against the fence I outwrestled him in a sense. He couldn’t take me down. I’ll teach Henry whatever he wants to know. ‘Cause he took Henry down four times. There’s just levels to wrestling, and I’m above Henry – statistically speaking – against Aljamain” (h/t MMA News).

Despite initially offering prior opponent, Marlon Vera a championship rematch before the end of the year, newly-minted division gold holder, Sean O’Malley has warned the Ecuadorian that he may eventually end up picking a championship defense against long-time rival and former duel-weight gold holder, Henry Cejudo instead.

O’Malley, the newly-crowned undisputed bantamweight champion, most recently headlined UFC 292 over the course of the weekend in Boston, Massachusetts, defeating incumbent gold holder, Aljamain Sterling with a shocking second round TKO win at the TD Garden.

And in the immediate aftermath of his victory, the Montana native and Dana White’s Contender Series product, suggested a title rematch with Vera at UFC 296 in December, with the latter returning to the winner’s enclosure in a main card opener against another common-opponent, Pedro Munhoz.

However, in a bid to avenge his sole career loss to Vera back in 2020, O’Malley has now claimed that he may end up fighting Cejudo instead – before listing a slew of contenders who will eventually land a title shot against him.

“You need to f*cking settle down or I’ll pick Henry Cejudo,” Sean O’Malley said on his podcast. “And don’t think that I don’t have the power to f*cking pick who I want to fight right now. So, you better f*cking go on Twitter, say, ‘Daddy, will you fight me?’ And I’ll f*cking think about it.”

“You need to settle down acting like you call the shots right now,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I’ll go box Gervonta (Davis), I’ll fight Henry, I’ll wait for Cory (Sandhagen). You need to chill out with your f*cking ugly ass outfits.”

Former two-division world champion Henry Cejudo wasted no time calling out the new UFC bantamweight titleholder, Sean O’Malley.

‘Sugar’ shocked the world on Saturday night, scoring a brilliant second-round TKO against Aljamain Sterling to capture the 135-pound crown inside Boston’s iconic TD Garden at UFC 292. By the time the title was wrapped around O’Malley’s waist, fight fans were already wondering who would be the first man to challenge the newly minted world champion.

With top-ranked contender Merab Dvalishvili recently undergoing surgery, all signs point toward another winner at UFC 292, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. The pair already have a history, making the fight an easy sell for the promotion. But if you ask Henry Cejudo, that sounds like a terrible idea.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Henry Cejudo suggested that there is only one man for the job and you can probably guess who that man is.

“Congratulations pussy @SugaSeanMMA how can you say you are the best in the world, When you are not even the best in our city,” Cejudo wrote. “@danawhite can’t give him Chito because he sucks and if you give him Merat he’s only going to wrestle. Let’s run it in PHX.“

Henry Cejudo Will Likely Need a Win Before Earning Another Shot at Bantamweight Gold

Unfortunately for Henry Cejudo, he’s coming off a loss to the man Sean O’Malley just smashed in under two rounds. Further complicating the Olympic gold medalist’s request is the fact that ‘Chito’ Vera has back-to-back wins in the division. Something Cejudo hasn’t accomplished since 2020. Maybe with a win against a top-ten contender, ‘Triple C’ could make an argument, but at this point, he’s going to have to sit back and let O’Malley settle some long-standing business with Vera.

Sean O’Malley’s only loss inside the Octagon came against Vera at UFC 252 nearly three years ago. O’Malley suffered a leg injury in the early going and couldn’t generate enough offense to stave off the attack of ‘Chito’ which led to a first-round knockout loss. Since then, O’Malley has been chomping at the bit to run it back.

It now looks like they’ll have the opportunity to do just that. But this time, UFC gold will hang in the balance.

No. 2 ranked bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley doesn’t expect to see Henry Cejudo back in the Octagon ever again.

‘Triple C’ made a comeback at UFC 288 on May 6, challenging reigning 135-pound king Aljamain Sterling in an entertaining main event matchup. After 25 minutes of closely contested action, Sterling escaped with his title intact via a split decision. Immediately following the fight, an understandably dejected Cejudo seemed ready to resume his retirement before signing on the dotted line for a fight with division standout Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 292 in August.

Unfortunately, that fight is no longer on the docket as a shoulder injury has seemingly sidelined Cejudo for the next six-to-eight weeks.

During a recent episode of his Timbo Sugar Show podcast on YouTube, Sean O’Malley suggested that fans have seen the last of Henry Cejudo inside the Octagon following his failed attempt to regain the bantamweight world title and subsequent injury.

“I think Henry is done. Done, he’s retired, he’s not coming back,” O’Malley said. “He tried to come back, no one really cared. He got paid a little bit of money. I don’t think (he’ll be back). A shoulder injury, so that must have been pretty bad if he couldn’t fight. And he’s already 36, right? Something like that” (h/t MMA News).

Sean O’Malley Looks to Accomplish What Henry Cejudo Could Not

Sean O’Malley will be in action on August 19 when the promotion heads back to Boston for UFC 292. ‘Sugar’ will step into the main event spotlight as he challenges Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight crown. O’Malley earned his first title opportunity with a split decision win over former champion Petr Yan in October. By the time O’Malley attempts to cash in, it will have been nearly a year removed from his last appearance inside the Octagon.

During that same timeframe, Aljamain Sterling will have stepped into the cage for the third time come UFC 292, having already defeated former champions T.J. Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo. His UFC 288 scrap with ‘Triple C’ will have only been in the books for three months by the time he goes toe-to-toe with Sean O’Malley in Beantown.

Aljamain Sterling and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera delivered very different reactions to Henry Cejudo’s UFC 292 withdrawal.

After coming up short in his return to the Octagon against the ‘Funk Master’ in May, Cejudo was scheduled for a scrap with rising bantamweight contender Marlon Vera on August 19. Unfortunately, that bout is no longer on the cards after ‘Triple C’ announced his withdrawal due to a shoulder injury. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete on Aug 19 at UFC 292,” Cejudo posted on Twitter. “I have a tear in my right shoulder that requires rehab. I wish I could’ve got in there w/ Chito, but I won’t be able to make a full recovery in time.”

Cejudo’s slated opponent was the first to react, delivering a brief but poignant six-second clip with two very simple words; “Well… F*ck.”

Aljamain Sterling on the other hand was much more animated in his response to Cejudo’s withdrawal, calling the self-proclaimed savage nothing more than a “dirty little weasel.”

“Henry Cejudo is out of this fight. The savage. You remember that, guys? The savage? Texting Dana saying that, ‘If that little p*ssy doesn’t want to fight, I’ll take the fight,’ Sterling said on his YouTube channel. “Isn’t it funny how the roles are reversed now and this little savage is no longer a savage? Very interesting, and for me, I call that being a dirty little weasel” (h/t MiddleEasy).

‘Funk Master’ wasn’t quite done, taking one more dig at Cejudo.

“You look like an ass clown trying to pretend to be something that you’re not,” Sterling said.

Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo previously squared off at UFC 288 on May 6 with the bantamweight world championship on the line. ‘Funk Master’ secured a split decision to retain his title leaving an understandably dejected Cejudo once again contemplating retirement. Less than 24 hours later, ‘Triple C’ opted to keep marching forward and accept another fight. He was ultimately matched up with ‘Chito’ Vera. Cejudo has also expressed an interest in facing Sterling’s close friend Merab Dvalishvili inside the Octagon.
