Henry Cejudo can’t seem to resist calling out fighters outside his division, and Jose Aldo is apparently his latest target. ‘The Messenger’ made headlines when he called out women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko following August 10’s UFC Uruguay. Jose Aldo has accepted Henry Cejudo’s challenge as he remains serious about a move down to bantamweight.

Aldo recently made headlines when he claimed he was ready to make the move to 135 pounds. The Brazilian, of course, was the longtime featherweight champion and had trouble making 145 pounds. However, he seems ready to make the cut if he gets a crack at Cejudo’s title.

Cejudo would respond to Aldo soon after:

“I think it’s crazy, these last couple months, that we’ve had legends — so-called legends — like Urijah Faber, Frankie Edgar and Jose ‘Waldo’ coming down to my weight division,” Cejudo said (via BJ Penn). “As a matter of fact, Jose Waldo, the self proclaimed ‘King of Rio,’ let me tell you who ‘Triple C’ is. Olympic champ, flyweight champ, and now bantamweight champion of the world. I’m the king of the world. You can do me a favor, and you can bend the knee too. One last thing: your movie sucks.”

Aldo would respond with a barb of his own, calling the two-weight champion a gnome and asking him for a date and location:

“We accept the challenge. Just say when and where and I’ll be there to beat your ass and add another gnome to my collection!” he wrote.

Aldo also responded to UFC president Dana White. White was asked about the potential move to bantamweight and seemed to play it down as he didn’t see Aldo making the weight.

However, the former featherweight king is serious and even claims to have done a test to see if he can make the cut.

“When I talk about something I”m talking seriously and for real,” Aldo tweeted White. “I already made a test and I can make this weight!”

What do you think of this potential matchup? Do you think Aldo can make the weight in the first place?

The ongoing madness between UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo and women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko has Dana White’s head buzzing.

Cejudo started things off by challenging Shevchenko to a matchup for her women’s 125-pound title, as “Triple C” claimed he wanted to become the UFC’s first-ever intergender champion of the world. Of course, White shut such an idea down, calling it “the wackiest sh*t I’ve ever heard.”

But that hasn’t stopped Cejudo and Shevchenko from continuing to hype up such a contest. In fact, Shevchenko shared some photoshopped images of herself beating Cejudo inside the Octagon.

Cejudo responded by issuing Shevchenko an official challenge for the main event at the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV).

Obviously, no athletic commission would ever sanction a fight between a male and female fighter at the levels of which Cejudo and Shevchenko are competing. However, perhaps the pair could consider putting on a grappling contest for charity? As for what’s next for both fighters, Cejudo is nursing an injury that will keep him sidelined until the beginning of 2020.

Shevchenko just defended her title against Liz Carmouche in Uruguay, and is awaiting her next opponent.

What do you think about Cejudo challenging Shevchenko for UFC 246?

Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo is still targeting UFC gold. Just not in the divisions one would expect.

As long as Max Holloway is the champion at 145 pounds, Aldo will likely not be receiving a title shot. There could be opportunities at lightweight, especially with Aldo regularly talking up a move to 155 pounds in the past.

However, the Brazilian is instead willing to go down and make the bantamweight limit so he gets a shot at Henry Cejudo’s belt:

“I sat down with everybody, did a study, and I think there’s a real possibility I can make 61kg [135 pounds],” Aldo told Combate (via MMA Fighting). “This is the new division I want to move to, and I’m asking for the title shot right away. That’s what matters for me now. Cejudo said he’s open to (fighting) anyone, so I’m open to that. I want the opportunity to fight against him and beat him.”

Despite his two losses to Holloway, Aldo remained a force at featherweight with commanding wins over Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano. However, he was recently outpointed by Alexander Volkanovski in a drab affair at UFC 237.

It makes sense for him to explore new divisions and a fight with Cejudo is one that particularly excites him:

“He’s an Olympic champion, a great athlete, and I respect his history a lot,” Aldo explained. “He deserves everything he’s winning, he has his merits. If the UFC thinks it’s a great fight, I think they’ll want that, it’s a huge challenge. He’s been talking after defeating (Marlon Moraes) that he was open to fighting big names. Since he’s open, it’s the green light.

“Nobody expected him to beat (Moraes) on the feet, you have to respect that. To me that’s great, it’s a good size for me, he has a fighting style that please me, that matches up well with my game. If it’s against him or not, I think about being adapted to the weight, fast and strong, which will be my differential in this division.”

It’s hard to see this happening, especially given Aldo’s struggles to make the featherweight limit.

Regardless, do you want to see that fight? Who wins?
