Henry Cejudo, Demetrious Johnson

Henry Cejudo and Demetrious Johnson are familiar with one another. The two former flyweight champions have fought twice with each man gaining a victory.

Now, the two stars are throwing down once again. This time in a sparring session.

During a new YouTube video, Cejudo and Johnson are seen sharpening their skills against each other. The two all-time greats showcased their standup and ground game.

I mean it’s always good to get a chance to train with Henry. We competed against each other two times,” Johnson said. “We know each other so well and each time we get back together and train, we kinda expose each other. Two different techniques and different pressures, different drilling.”

Henry Cejudo and Demetrious Johnson Have History

The two fighters first fought at UFC 197, where Johnson secured a first-round TKO over Cejudo. In the rematch at UFC 227, Cejudo defeated Johnson by split decision.

Johnson currently competes in ONE Championship, where he is the current Flyweight Champion. Cejudo has been rumored to make his MMA return against bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288 on May 6. No official announcement has been made by the UFC. The 36-year-old hasn’t competed in nearly three years with his last fight being a TKO win over Dominick Cruz.

“I’m super excited to see Henry [Cejudo] compete. I know he’s been out the game for four to five years but honestly I can tell you he hasn’t missed a step,” Johnson said. “The beautiful thing that I love about training with Henry is to realize how fast he is. I’m fast but he’s also just fast. It’s in a different way. It’s always a good time to train with Henry.”

UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has released a new rap song, titled ‘Go Dumb’, which is available now to stream.

Sterling, 33, last fought in October of last year, defeating former champion T.J. Dillashaw in a bizarre affair that was over before it even began after Dillashaw immediately dislocated his shoulder following a lingering injury.

While there had been reports of Sterling next defending his title against two-weight UFC champion, Henry Cejudo, nothing has been set in stone. However, to occupy his time between fights Sterling has turned to the booth, releasing a rap song name ‘Go Dumb’.

This is a big year of checking off my goals so I hope y’all like my first single!” Sterling stated on his Instagram. “It’s called, “Go Dumb” featuring @troygrindz (my brother) on will be on all streaming platforms at midnight! We’re almost 2 months into the year already, so remember that time isn’t waiting for any of us. Chase your dreams, take chances on YOURSELF, and then you can see how far you can really go.”

Sterling isn’t the only fighter who has released rap music, famously Tyron Woodley attempted to make a splash in the scene – even getting a feature from Grammy Award nominee, Wiz Khalifa.

Kevin Holland, Bryce Mitchell and Brian Kelleher have also all put out music.

Number four ranked UFC bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen has already fought many of the top fighters in his weight class.

His last outing against Umar Nurmagomedov was seen by many as a title eliminator but after losing that contest, he’s back to the drawing board.

In the aftermath of the division crowning a new champion this past weekend at UFC 306, “The Sandman” has called for a fight that a lot of fans have wanted to see for some time.

Unfortunately for Sandhagen, it looks like former champ Sean O’Malley is going to be taking some substantial time off – meaning that if he wants to stay active, he’ll need to look elsewhere.

Cory Sandhagen Says That Henry Cejudo Isn’t Interested In Fighting Unless It’s A Perfect Opportunity For Him

When looking at the other top bantamweights that Sandhagen could fight next, a few names stand out.

Former champion Petr Yan is one spot ahead of him in the rankings but the Russian hasn’t been able to remain active for some time now.

MMA legend José Aldo could be an option, but he would need to get past Mario Bautista at UFC 307 first which would, again, leave Sandhagen waiting.

Deiveson Figueiredo is a very exciting option but “The Sandman” recently revealed that the former UFC flyweight champion turned down a fight in December.

That leaves former flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo – but Sandhagen isn’t very confident in this fight being booked.

He believes that Cejudo is far too focused on calling his shots and taking the most favorable fights that he possibly can, remaining on the sidelines until they appear.

Sandhagen told James Lynch in a recent interview with Fanatics View that he sees “Triple C” as someone who isn’t interested in a fight, until it suits him perfectly.

“Henry’s another guy that kind of makes me nervous. It’s not in like a fight sense but in like a way like is this guy actually gonna show up? I feel like Henry’s kind of thing right now is to say that he’s hurt until there’s a match-up that he really wants and then he goes after that one, you know?

“it does irk me a little bit that Henry gets to just come back and then have every single fight that he’s asking for and I think that that’s gotta like, that can’t be the case. Like he just got beat pretty significantly by Merab. You can fight down the rankings a little bit and fight some guys that we’ve beaten before if you want to work your way up, but you don’t get to just be like this figure that calls his fights and gets them every single time.”

Aljamain Sterling UFC Featherweight

Reigning UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has sights set on making an eventual featherweight division move – likely after his expected fight with former two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo later this year.

Initially expected to feature at UFC 287 on April 8. – Sterling’s return to the Octagon for his next tile defense against Olympic gold medalist, Cejudo, has yet to be made official by the UFC – who have already booked a middleweight title rematch between Alex Pereira, and Israel Adesanya for the event in a headlining slot.

Most recently co-headlining UFC 280 back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE – Sterling scored the second defense of his bantamweight title reign with a dominant, second round TKO win over former two-time division champion, T.J. Dillashaw.

As for Cejudo, the Los Angeles-born former champion has yet to return to active competition since 2020, where he bowed out of the sport off the back of a title defense win over another former two-time bantamweight kingpin, Dominick Cruz.

Aljamain Sterling plans eventual climb to the featherweight limit

Still expected to stand opposite Cejudo in his next Octagon appearance, Uniondale tactician, Sterling admits bantamweight offers very little else for him beyond that fight with Cejudo – as he weighs up a long-rumored leap to featherweight waters.

“I could see a second round finish, TKO,” Aljamain Sterling said during a recent interview with The Schmo. “After I finish Henry Cejudo, I really don’t think the bantamweight division has anything left for me. Maybe a money fight with Sean O’Malley if he can get his toenails in order and make sure he stays pretty on the sidelines and healthy.”

“He (Sean O’Malley) doesn’t want to fight anybody tough at the top of the division, because he needs time to get ready for the grappling, and I understand [that],” Aljamain Sterling said. “We would kind of run through him right now. So maybe that fight might entice me or I’m probably just going to go up to 145 (pounds) and let Merab (Dvalishvili) continue to reign terror on the rest of these guys in the bantamweight division.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Currently at the featherweight limit, incoming UFC 284 headliner, Alexander Volkanovski rules the division roost, with a co-headlining fight at the same event between Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett set to determine the interim division gold holder.
