Sean O'Malley

Sean O’Malley wasted no time with his quick response to Henry Cejudo‘s callout on ‘The MMA Hour’.

Cejudo called out O’Malley earlier today, claiming that Sterling wasn’t ready for a title fight just yet. His offer was to fight for the interim title, in a bout with O’Malley.

“Hey @danawhite since Denzel Sterling wants to work on his rap career (He can be called Lil Power) How about Me Vs Ronald MethDonald @SugaSeanMMA for an interim in Australia? I’m short so I’m used to being Down Under.”

This was the second time Cejudo has referred to O’Malley as “Ronald Methdonald, but unfortunately for Cejudo it doesn’t seem to be sticking. Cejudo has been trying to get a fight for some time now as he has called out everyone from featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski to Sean O’Malley. The former double champion has not had a fight since he defeated Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 back in 2020.

O’Malley is coming off his best win of his young career, as he was able to get a win split decision win over Petr Yan. Many considered Yan to be the most well rounded fighter in the division, but O’Malley was able to outstrip him and turn him into a panic wrestler at times. Dana White had said the prior to the bout between Yan and O’Malley, that it would determine who would be fighting for the bantamweight championship next, but he has not confirmed it since O’Malley won.

Sean O’Malley answered Cejudo’s callout on ‘The MMA Hour’

“I heard from someone close to Henry that he has $37 in the bank and he’s literally doing anything to try and book a fight and get some money,” O’Malley said to Ariel Helwani. “I don’t know Henry is like a co-main event dude, even if him and ‘Aljo’ go fight it’ll be a co-main event on some card. I feel like every time we talk about this guy, it’s like ‘is he actually coming back?’ ya know?”

Henry Cejudo

Former duel-weight UFC champion, Henry Cejudo appears poised to snap a retirement of over two years in a stunning bantamweight title return in February at UFC 284, however, has called for the UFC to introduce an interim title to the fray if undisputed champion, Aljamain Sterling rejects a potential clash.

Cejudo, a former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight champion during his tenure with the UFC, successfully defended his bantamweight crown in a May 2020 knockout win over former division titleholder, Dominick Cruz, before retiring from active competition with immediate effet.

In his sole successful flyweight title knockback in January the year prior atop a UFC Fight Night Brooklyn card, Cejudo defeated then-bantamweight best, T.J. Dillashaw with a blistering first round knockout, dispatching the Angels Camp veteran in less than 40 seconds.

Following the aforenoted, Sterling’s title defense against Dillashaw earlier this month at UFC 280, the Uniondale native was all but tied to a title outing against the returning, Cejudo next, with reports detailing how the UFC are eying a Perth, Australia showdown between the two in February.

Henry Cejudo weighs up a fight with Sean O’Malley in February

However, Sterling has since distanced himself from a fight with Henry Cejudo – while the latter switches his focus to UFC 280 big-winner and the #1 ranked, Sean O’Malley – branding him with a peculiar nickname.

“Hey @danawhite since Denzel Sterling (Aljamain Sterling) wants to work on his rap career (he can be called Lil’ Power) How about me vs. Ronald MethDonald @SugaSeanMMA (Sean O’Malley) for an interim [title] in Australia?” Henry Cejudo tweeted. “I’m short so I’m used to being Down Under. (Trophy emoji)”

In the midst of a run of four fights without defeat, Montana native, O’Malley turned in a career-best win earlier this month at UFC 280, defeating former undisputed bantamweight champion, Petr Yan in a close decision win in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Former two-division world champion Henry Cejudo is sharing his thoughts on Aljamain Sterling’s UFC 280 victory over TJ Dillashaw, and they are brutal. Dillashaw is a former UFC bantamweight world champion who battled the reigning king ‘Funk Master’ with a massive shoulder injury this past weekend.

The US-born Dillashaw entered this bout knowing his shoulder would scarcely last a five-round war as it had dislocated over 20-times in training, according to the fighter. TJ even warned the referee that this is an expected injury and asked the official to not stop the bout should this occur. His shoulder dislocated within the first two minutes of this fight. It was put back in place in between rounds, and then it happened again in the second round.

In his post-fight interview Dillashaw admitted:

“I told the ref in the back before we came out that most likely, the shoulder’s gonna pop out. If it does, I’ll get it back in, please do not stop it. Unfortunately, in the second round, I couldn’t push off my shoulder.”

Aljamain Sterling would decimate the one-armed Dillashaw winning this fight via second-round TKO. According to the official UFC stats, ‘Funk Master’ out-landed the former champion 56-3 when measuring head strikes.

Henry Cejudo is not impressed, wants to fight Sterling

The Olympic gold medal wrestler ‘The Messenger’ Henry Cejudo was not impressed with this performance, or Sterling’s previous title wins. On Twitter, the American athlete said:

“Hey Alljizzlame. Your last 3 Fights.
1. Beat Yan via Academy Award
2. Gifted Dec via Guilt
3. Hate Crime over Handicapped Fighter
Sign the Contract . @funkmasterMMA”

The 35-year-old Cejudo is referring to how Sterling won the bantamweight title after his opponent broke the rules thus disqualifying himself, as number one. Number two is winning a close decision over Petr Yan. Three is referring to his UFC 280 win.

Henry Cejudo held the flyweight and bantamweight UFC championships but vacated both when he retired in 2020. ‘The Messenger’ holds notable and impressive wins over Dominick Cruz, TJ Dillashaw, and Demetrious Johnson, among others.

After being away from the sport for nearly three years, Cejudo wants to earn back his bantamweight throne. According to rumors, the UFC is highly interested in a Sterling vs Cejudo showdown with the bantamweight crown on the line.
