Likely earning his first shot at UFC flyweight gold, Alexandre ‘The Cannibal’ Pantoja is also primed for a title rematch against recently minted titleholder, Brandon Moreno — via an impressive second round rear-naked choke over the pressing, Brandon Royval to kick off the main card of UFC Vegas 34.

Opening up the main card portion of UFC Vegas 34 tonight, Pantoja and Royval got off to a frenetic pace early, with the Brazilian immediately engaging with clinch work and grappling exchanges, taking the latter’s back for the majority of the opening round.

Attempting to granby roll on cue, Royval almost set up his own heel hook attempt during a scramble, before he was clipped with what appeared to be a well-placed right hand during latter striking exchanges before the close of the first round.

Again taking Royval’s back in the opening minute of the second round, Rio de Janeiro native, Pantoja patiently locked his hands around Royval’s chin, forcing an eventual tap in the process — as he looks to meet with defending champion, Moreno following an initial clash on The Ultimate Fighter before a UFC Fight Night Santiago matchup back in May 2019. In both pairings, Pantoja emerged victorious.

Chilean striker, Ignacio ‘La Juala’ Bahamondes has turned in a definite contender for Knockout of the Year on the preliminary section of UFC Vegas 34 — stopping Roosevelt Roberts with a stunning wheel kick with just five seconds remaining in their showdown.

Improving to 1-1 in the Octagon, Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Bahamondes outstruck Roberts in the second round in particular, landing a vicious body shot of note which appeared to really nick the attention of the 27-year-old Miami native.

With just 10 seconds remaining in the round, Bahamondes and Roberts returned to the centre of the Octagon following an exchange at the fence, with the former launching a stunning wheel kick attempt from his left side — catching the latter square on the chin, sending him stiff to the canvas in a huge walk away knockout stoppage.

Undefeated still and now the newly-minted interim UFC heavyweight champion, Ciryl ‘Bon Gamin’ Gane has clinched the interim crown via a masterful striking performance to stop Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis with a third round flurry to round out UFC 265.

Decent first round for Gane who keeps Lewis pinned to the Octagon fence and lands a couple notable leg kicks as Lewis looks to load up whilst remaining patience awaiting a potential opening to uncork one shot. Some good moments for Gane at the end of the frame the form of a clubbing right hand and a nice, sharp and stiff jab which appeared to catch Lewis on his eye. 10-9 Gane.

Gane takes the second round as well against Lewis, tying up in the clinch and landing some good knees as well as point-fighting well all while controlling the centre of the Octagon. Likely two rounds in the bank for the undefeated Frenchman.

Pouring on the pressure in the third, Gane managed to stop Lewis with strikes on the ground after a flurry of unanswered shots following numerous leg kicks.

For the second bout running, streaking welterweight finisher, Vicente Luque has latched onto a D’Arce choke to stop his opponent — this time submitting the renowned grappler, Michael Chiesa in an entertaining main card clash at UFC 265.

Finding himself on the receiving end of a slick jab-straight combination from Washington native, Chiesa, which opened a cut just below his left eye — Luque was taken down after appearing to rock Chiesa with a right hand of his own.

Managing to almost immediately taking the streaking, Luque’s back, Chiesa attempted to setup a rear-naked choke in quite timely fashion, with the former gritting through what appeared to be close finish.

Returning to his knees following a successful defence, Luque himself looked to lock up a D’Arce choke as Chiesa returned to his feet, and upon rolling and latching onto the choke successfully — Luque lodged his fourth consecutive victory and his eighth successful submission stoppage.

The remaining bouts on UFC 265 will do well to beat out both Bobby Green and Rafael Fiziev for Fight of the Night honours tonight in Houston, Texas — with the latter narrowly edging out the former with a close unanimous decision in tonight’s featured preliminary bout.

The majority of onlookers expected fireworks between the veteran division mainstay, Green and the streaking striking standout, Fiziev — and the pair duly delivered.

From the opening and numerous exchanges, Green and Fiziev looked to roll and counter each other, leading to some wild exchanges in the pocket — both with their hands and feet as well as their verbals with the pair exchanging on occasion.

Narrowly besting the veteran Californian, Tiger Muay Thai kickboxing ace, Fiziev takes home his fourth consecutive victory and fourth since his move to the UFC back in April of 2019.

One-time UFC strawweight title challenger, Jessica Penne has handed fellow former title chaser, the returning, Karolina Kowalkiewicz a first round armbar defeat to open the preliminary portion of UFC 265 at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas.

Penne, a former Invicta FC atomweight gold holder managed to eventually lock up an armbar victory with just less than 30-seconds remaining in the first round as Lodz native, Kowalkiewicz admirably attempted to defend.

Following Penne to the ground, former KSW titleholder, Kowalkiewicz failed with a brief kneebar attack of her own, before California native, Penne secured her second straight victory via an armbar win — following a prior decision victory against former LFA champion, Lupita Godinez earlier this year.
