And Still. Now sitting at 2-0 against Marvin Vettori, UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has now scored his third successful defence of the gold, via a largely one-sided unanimous decision win in the main event of UFC 263.

No glove touch to start things off. Adesanya begins lacing Vettori’s lead right leg with a couple of notable calf kicks early, circling on the fence. Vettori then returns fire with two of his own. Catching another leg kick attempt, Vettori takes Adesanya down with three minutes and change to work. Adesanya manages to scramble back to his feet at the fence and then breaks away.

Tremendous head movement from Adesanya gets him out of danger, not without eating at least one shot though. Nice uppercut from Vettori as the round comes to a close. 10-9 Adesanya.

Adesanya begins the second chopping away at that lead leg again, and mixes it up high with a kick. Fantastic takedown defence from Adesanya as he lands a flurry of elbows as the challenger attempts to score a double-leg at the fence. Another round in the books for the titleholder. 20-18.

Great start to the third round for Vettori who lands his second successful takedown inside the opening half a minute of the frame, assuming half guard. Scrambling and threatening with a rear-naked choke, Vettori almost got underneath the neck, however, Adesanya defended well. Vettori suffers a nasty eye poke on the way back up.

Vettori eats a slew of leg kicks, one which plays particular havoc, resulting in a slip, and he eats an uppercut on his way back to his feet. Inadvertent groin strike from Adesanya with a stray kick results in a stoppage in the action before the end of the third round. 30-27 for Adesanya.

A third successful takedown for Vettori, who is almost immediately swept by Adesanya who calls him back to a standing position. The Italian finds some success with a right and then left at the Octagon fence. Another round for Adesanya, who defends another takedown at the fence. 40-36.

Vettori again rushes forward to the Octagon fence in pursuit of another takedown, however, Adesanya’s takedown defence is up to the task yet again. Tremendous takedown defence again from City Kickboxing mainstay, Adesanya — posting on route to another takedown knockback. Decision win incoming for Adesanya.

Leon Edwards is on route to his first promotional title challenge, via a dominant unanimous decision win over Nate Diaz over the course of five, composed and dominant rounds.

Edwards starts the opening round, taking the centre of the Octagon, forcing Diaz to fight off the fence in the early goings. Some real gamesman ship from Diaz in the opening minute and a half, turning his back and then rushing toward Edwards. The Birmingham native landing a couple of notable leg kicks early.

Some good clinch work from Diaz with just under two minutes left in the clock, although, Edwards does eventually take the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu product’s back from the ground. Diaz eventually scrambles and recovers full guard before the klaxon as Edwards allows him to stand back up. First round for the #3 ranked, Edwards.

Another nasty low calf kick lands for Edwards to open up the second round as Diaz reaches and attempts to land with some pawing counters with his hands. Some interesting shots in the pocket from both, as Diaz ties up in the clinch. Another successful takedown for Edwards again at the fence. Diaz briefly threatens with a heel hook attempt. Edwards counters once more and Diaz acknowledges the shot. Another round in the books for Edwards — Diaz looking better though.

Good counter left hand from Edwards early in the third catches Diaz off balance, and draws a nod from the Stockton native. A third successful takedown for Edwards arrives as he moves into half guard. A good ground strikes opens Diaz up quite significantly — to the side of his head, as well as his eyebrow.

Diaz scrambles and Edwards manages to take his back once again. Diaz looking quite bloodied here again before the close of the third round.

Good left hand from Edwards within the opening minute and a half of the fourth round results in somewhat of a stumble from Diaz. Good left hand lands for Diaz at the fence after he points at Edwards’ left leg, insinuating that he checked his most recent leg kick attempt. Fantastic elbow from Edwards in the clinch opens Diaz’s cut on his head again.

Edwards gets clipped with a real notable counter left from Diaz with just under three minutes remaining in the fifth and final round, which draws some back peddling from the former. Edwards ties up in the single collar clinch and lands a good uppercut and left hand over the top.

Wobbling Edwards with a massive straight left hand, Diaz began pouring it on and again shook Edwards to the core with another right hand, forcing a real significant wobble, before he managed to gather his wits and survive. Edwards takes a decision win, however, not without a late scare.

Paul Craig has opened the main card of UFC 263 in quite spectacular fashion. Matching the #15 ranked, Jamahal Hill, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert managed to lock the challenger up with a first round armbar before rolling and eventually breaking Hill’s arm in a transition, forcing a poor stoppage, eventually, from referee, Al Guiney.

Meeting with Hill following an intense stare-down in the centre of the Octagon prior to the opening klaxon, Craig eventually wound up on the bottom and immediately threatened with submissions off of his back.

Attempting to setup both an armbar and then a triangle from the bottom, Craig trapped Hill’s left arm and eventually rolled, which appeared to result in a dislocation of Hill’s arm at the elbow. After some prolonged strikes from the bottom still, Craig gestured to the referee, Guiney that Hill had suffered an arm injury — forcing a stoppage.

We may already have out lock for Fight of the Night at UFC 263 — with the main card still yet to begin. Headlining the event’s preliminary card portion, Brad Riddell is set to enter the lightweight’s top-15 following a close unanimous decision win over Drew Dober in an instant classic in Glendale, Arizona.

City Kickboxing standout, Riddell survived an early scare in the opening round against Elevation Fight Team standout, Dober, losing his footing and balance as a result of a notable straight left hand, before recovering again eventually pushing Dober back to the Octagon fence.

With the significant strike score level between the two in both the first and second rounds, it was all to play for in the third and final frame, with Riddell just about eeking out Dober with 29-28 scores across all three judge’s scorecards, wobbling the Colorado native himself with a counter left hand of his before the klaxon, before winding up on top with mere seconds remaining in the fight.

Below, catch the highlights from Riddell’s impressive win over Dober.

Rozenstruik

Suriname striking sensation, Jairzinho ‘Bigi Boy’ Rozenstruik is back on the winning track, and as more often than not, in some rather spectacular fashion. Forcing Sakai to fight from the fence from the beginning exchanges, the American Top Team trainee managed to stop the Brazilian with a single second remaining in the opening round with an exploding effort with his hands.

Rozenstruik immediately starts to dictate the pace and land a couple of notable inside low leg kicks to Sakai’s lead left, as the Brazilian attempts to circle and return fire with his hands on occasion. Circling and pressing Sakai to the fence just before the culimination of the very first round, Rozenstruik exploded with a left hook, clipping the Brazilian, before following up with right hand, dropping Sakai.

Swarming just before the klaxon, Rozenstruik knocked Sakai unconscious with just a single second remaining in the opening frame via a handful of hammer fist strikes. The victory marks the Suriname native’s return to the winner’s enclosure following his February loss to Ciryl Gane — and he has sights set on a matchup against contenders ranked higher than him at heavyweight next.
