UFC women’s bantamweight Ketlen Vieira is excited to have the opportunity to share the Octagon with former champion Holly Holm.

At UFC Vegas 55 tonight, two elite 135lbers will collide in the main event. On one side will be Holm, who held gold on MMA’s biggest stage after brutally knocking the then-dominant Ronda Rousey out at UFC 193 in 2015.

Having quickly lost the belt and had a turbulent time in the cage since, “The Preacher’s Daughter” will be looking to extend her current strong form and secure herself a sixth UFC championship fight.

Looking to spoil those dreams will be rising contender Vieira. The Brazilian rose to #6 on the bantamweight ladder last time out with a headline win against the woman who dethroned Holm in 2016, Miesha Tate.

Having already added the name of one former titleholder to her blossoming résumé, Vieira is relishing the opportunity to make it back-to-back in that regard this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Vieira: ‘I Admire Holm A Lot’

During her appearance at UFC Vegas 55 media day on Wednesday, Vieira spoke about what it meant to be chosen for the main event spotlight in back-to-back Octagon outings. She also revealed her admiration for upcoming opponent Holm, describing a bout against the 40-year-old as a “dream come true.”

“I always dreamed about being a main event in the UFC, and now I have the opportunity to do it again with another elite athlete,” said Vieira. “It’s a dream come true for me… I have the chance to face Holly Holm, who is somebody that I admire a lot… I was very grateful when I heard her name.

“I used to watch her fights well beyond I realized my dream to be in the UFC. I watched her fight against Ronda when she shocked the world,” recalled Vieira. “For me, it’s like, a dream come true to be able to face another former champion who I admire so much. I have a lot of faith in myself and this is a great opportunity.”

Vieira will have to put her admiration for “The Preacher’s Daughter” to one side if she’s to take Holm’s #2 placement in the women’s bantamweight division with a win tonight.

While the former champion has been unable to recapture top spot since her reign seven years ago, she still poses the same fight-ending weapons that helped her shock the world back in 2015.

Do you think Ketlen Vieira will add the name of another former champion to her record at UFC Vegas 55?

Holly Holm has shed some light on her recently expressed ambitions to return to professional boxing.

Holm has been talking about wanting to return for a boxing fight since the hype behind the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight this past April. Speaking at the UFC Vegas pre-fight press event, Holm explained her desires to return to the squared circle.

“It wouldn’t be going to do it because it’s like, ‘Oh, it makes sense, and you’re gonna make some money, and the internet’s gonna talk about it,’ not like that.

“To be able to show that I can go back and compete at the highest level, and still get a belt. Does that intrigue me? Yes. That kinda sparks some of that passion that hasn’t been there.”

Holm was a professional boxer before joining the UFC, amassing a record of 33-2-3 before walking away from the sport to focus on MMA.

She’d eventually go on to pull off the biggest upset in MMA history at the time, knocking out Ronda Rousey, becoming the first person to defeat her.

Today, Holm is on a two-fight win streak in the UFC women’s bantamweight division. She’s hoping to make it three this weekend, potentially thrusting her back into the title contention conversation.

Tonight, Holm will return to action against Ketlen Vieira in the main event from the UFC Apex.

What do you think about Holly Holm potentially returning to boxing? How would she fare today against competition such as Katie Taylor? Sound off in the comments!

UFC Vegas 55

In the last event before the promotion takes a week off ahead of its stacked summer schedule, Holly Holm takes on Ketlen Viera in the headline fight of UFC Vegas 55 in the Apex Arena.

Both women will be hoping to solidify their status as the No.1 contender at 135lbs with a big win at this event. Also featured on UFC Vegas 55 is an electric co-main event between two welterweight action fighters. Michel Pereira and Santiago Ponzinibbio square off in a bout that will establish the victor as a top player in the 170lb rankings.

Fan favorites Chase Hooper, Uros Medic, Vince Morales, and Parker Porter all also feature on this card. Join LowKickMMA as we preview, predict, and hopefully win some money betting on UFC Vegas 55.

Holly Holm vs. Ketlen Viera

Former champion Holly Holm will face off against Ketlen Viera in the five-round main event of UFC Vegas 55. Holm is a true veteran of the game at this point, and has developed a round-winning style that repeatedly sees her pick-up wins against all but the very best. Ketlen Viera is a physical force at 135lbs, and has often been able to dominate her opponents.

However, whilst Viera may have moments of success, it is hard to bet against Holm in fights like this. She will consistently rack points with her in and out striking, and her takedown defense is surprisingly solid, to the point where it’s fair to presume she will frustrate much of Viera’s attempts to take the fight to the ground.

Holm can be bet at her ML, which Betway have priced at 1.40. However, her decision prop at 1.83 is equally appealing.

Chidi Njokuani vs. Dusko Todorovic

In this UFC Vegas 55 main card bout, experienced striker Chidi Njokuani takes on Dusko Todorovic. We will be taking Njokuani in this fight, on account of Todorovic’s tendency to lunge into exchanges with little to no head movement, whilst his chin remains high in the air. Njokuani hits extremely hard, and will be sure to look for the counter.

Todorovic may have some success if he can bring the fight to the ground, but he will have to weather a storm to get there. We’re betting that his chin will not hold up.

Njokuani’s ML is priced at 1.44, whilst his KO prop can be found at 1.95.

Jonathan Martinez vs. Vince Morales

One of the hidden gems of UFC Vegas 55 is buried in the preliminary card. The fight in question is the bantamweight scrap between Jonathan Martinez and Vince Morales. Both men are high-level strikers who love to let their fights play out on the feet. Morales is more of a boxer, whilst Martinez’s style is more akin to that of a traditional kickboxer.

We will take Martinez to win this one, on account of his wider arsenal of striking options on the feet. Most notably are his leg kicks, which Morales has been susceptible to in the past. We expect Martinez to fight a war of attrition, cutting down Morales’ base, whilst simultaneously utilizing high kicks and step-in knees. Look for ‘The Dragon’ to win either by decision or a late KO.

Betway places Martinez’s ML at 1.44.

Holm hasn’t fought in the UFC since her win over Irene Aldana at UFC on ESPN 16 on Oct. 3, 2020. The UFC wanted her to fight Julianna Peña and Norma Dumont last year, but Holm had suffered injuries. She returns at UFC Vegas 55 to face Ketlen Vieira, who is ranked fifth in the bantamweight division.

Vieira’s last win was against Miesha Tate on Nov. 20, 2021. A win for either Holm or Vieira, could put them in the conversation to challenge for the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

Holly Holm is eyeing a shot at the title if she’s able to dispatch Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 55.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm has not given up her pursuit to get the promotional gold for the second time in her professional career. Having already been at the top once, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ believes a win in her next outing can put her in the mix of title contention.

This weekend, Holm will headline UFC Fight Night 206 when she takes on Ketlen Vieira at UFC Apex, Las Vegas. Vieira has been the more active fighter of the two having fought twice last year and going into the bout off a win over Miesha Tate in November 2021.

The main event will mark Holm’s return to action after a two-year hiatus. She last competed in the cage in October 2020 when she secured a win over Irene Aldana.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Holly Holm talked about the danger she sees in her opponent. The 40-year-old believes she will significantly up her chances of getting a title shot if she manages to get a win over Vieira.

“She’s tough, she throws punches with intent. She wants to make me hurt. She is trying to clinch, she’s got her trips, she’s got her takedowns. She’s got a lot of heavy pressure when she’s on top. So, she has a lot of things that make her a very difficult fighter, a very difficult opponent. I’m just ready for all of it and I’m going to be better at any of those situations.”

Holly Holm wants the title once more

Currently ranked second contender at UFC women’s bantamweight, Holly Holm is only under the former ‘champ-champ’ Amanda Nunes in the divisional rankings. Given the outcome of Nunes’s last fight where she lost her title to Julianna Pena, a rematch would likely be on the cards as far as title matches go.

A win over the fifth-ranked Vieira may not do much for her in terms of getting a chance against Pena in her next contest. However, she will be able to put herself in a better position to probably take on the winner of the rematch between Pena and Nunes.

Holm spoke about how her life’s purpose is to be a champion and that she’s fully committed to it.

“I definitely think that could be the very next step. If I win this, I feel like the very next fight could be for a title. And that’s why I need to make the most of this fight. Any fight I have, I treat as my last fight only because it is that important. It could be your last opportunity, you never know.”

“I still want to be a champion, and I’m committed 100 percent. Otherwise, what would my purpose even be right now?”
