UFC middleweight Joseph Holmes talked about his most recent winning efforts inside the cage against Alen Amedovski.

Making his professional debut in Bellator, Joseph Holmes made his way into the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series last October. After a rocky start in his debut against Jamie Pickett, ‘Ugly Man’ Joe got back to winning ways in his latest outing at UFC Fight Night 206. Taking on Alen Amedovski at UFC Vegas 55, Holmes emerged victorious in the opening minute with a rear-naked submission.

Joseph Holmes was surprised to see Amedovski go down

Holmes has been clear about his intentions of getting bonuses in his fights, and with his latest first-round finish, it may surprise many to know that he did not receive any kind of bonus. In a sequence that began with a straight knee to the head, Holmes sent Amedovski down the canvas and followed up with multiple strikes to secure the submission.

In an exclusive interview with LowKick MMA, Joseph Holmes talked about his recent win over Amedovski and explained what was going through his mind when he saw his opponent go down from what seemed to be a light knee strike.

“No, I wasn’t expecting him to drop from the knee,” Holmes said. “It was actually super surprising. I just threw the knee because I was told to, and I just threw it in that split second. The moment it hit him, I was like ‘damn! Did I really drop this guy? Oh shit, I’m ready to be done. Let me try and finish this fight.”

Holmes did not receive any bonuses

During the same interview, Holmes was probed by the interviewer on whether he received any behind-the-scenes bonuses. While the UFC does make public the winners of the night’s incentives, many fighters have talked about getting paid more behind the camera.

“No bonuses, no behind-the-scenes bonus, nothing,” Holmes said. “They showed me no love for that performance, man.”

With a finish like that, it wouldn’t have been crazy to hand ‘Ugly Man Joe’ a Performance of the Night bonus. Regardless, the Texas native stays confident about his ambitions to win some down the line as he looks to continue putting on exciting fights for the fans.

“Jorge Masvidal Sent An Emoji To My Wife”: Michel Pereira Reveals Reason For Callout

Michel Pereira, Jorge Masvidal

UFC welterweight Michel Pereira called out Jorge Masvidal in his post-fight octagon interview at UFC Vegas 55.

This past weekend, Michel Pereira returned to action for the second time this year to take on Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night 206: Holm vs. Vieira. In a close-fought contest that went the distance, Pereira managed to come out on top by a split decision. As good of a performance as he had delivered, the real talks surrounded his words on the mic.

Michel Pereira said Jorge Masvidal DM’d his wife

In the post-fight interview inside the octagon, ‘Demolidor’ took his shot to call out Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. Both welterweights are well past their prime and have the star power to make big money fights. A potential fight against either of the two will likely translate to a significantly bigger paycheck for the other fighter.

While many believed their ability to generate cash to be the main source of Pereira’s call out, the 28-year-old Brazilian revealed a more personal reason behind his actions. During the post-fight press conference at UFC Vegas 55, Michel Pereira was asked about his claims of having a problem with Jorge Masvidal, and why he really wanted to fight him.

“So, he sent an emoji to my wife,” Pereira said. “The emoji with the two hands together (like this, Amen). He sent it to my wife and didn’t send it to me. I never actually cross paths with him, never had the chance to ask him. So I figured, I really won’t understand but might as well stay inside the octagon. So just, settle over there.”

Considering how Jorge Masvidal has spent the last three months embroiled in the controversy surrounding his alleged physical altercation with Colby Covington, a return to fighting may look far-fetched anytime soon. Pereira has only been in the UFC for three years and scoring a big draw in his next fight may not fit the promotion’s plans well.

Holly Holm is eyeing a shot at the title if she’s able to dispatch Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 55.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm has not given up her pursuit to get the promotional gold for the second time in her professional career. Having already been at the top once, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ believes a win in her next outing can put her in the mix of title contention.

This weekend, Holm will headline UFC Fight Night 206 when she takes on Ketlen Vieira at UFC Apex, Las Vegas. Vieira has been the more active fighter of the two having fought twice last year and going into the bout off a win over Miesha Tate in November 2021.

The main event will mark Holm’s return to action after a two-year hiatus. She last competed in the cage in October 2020 when she secured a win over Irene Aldana.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Holly Holm talked about the danger she sees in her opponent. The 40-year-old believes she will significantly up her chances of getting a title shot if she manages to get a win over Vieira.

“She’s tough, she throws punches with intent. She wants to make me hurt. She is trying to clinch, she’s got her trips, she’s got her takedowns. She’s got a lot of heavy pressure when she’s on top. So, she has a lot of things that make her a very difficult fighter, a very difficult opponent. I’m just ready for all of it and I’m going to be better at any of those situations.”

Holly Holm wants the title once more

Currently ranked second contender at UFC women’s bantamweight, Holly Holm is only under the former ‘champ-champ’ Amanda Nunes in the divisional rankings. Given the outcome of Nunes’s last fight where she lost her title to Julianna Pena, a rematch would likely be on the cards as far as title matches go.

A win over the fifth-ranked Vieira may not do much for her in terms of getting a chance against Pena in her next contest. However, she will be able to put herself in a better position to probably take on the winner of the rematch between Pena and Nunes.

Holm spoke about how her life’s purpose is to be a champion and that she’s fully committed to it.

“I definitely think that could be the very next step. If I win this, I feel like the very next fight could be for a title. And that’s why I need to make the most of this fight. Any fight I have, I treat as my last fight only because it is that important. It could be your last opportunity, you never know.”

“I still want to be a champion, and I’m committed 100 percent. Otherwise, what would my purpose even be right now?”
