Ian Garry vows to beat Sean Strickland so bad that he'll forget childhood trauma UFC

Unbeaten welterweight contender, Ian Garry may be preoccupied by a February fight with Geoff Neal at UFC 298, however, the Dubliner claims the prospect of a future middleweight fight with rival, Sean Strickland attracts him, before mocking the latter’s much-discussed traumatic childhood.

Garry, the current number ten ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since he featured on the main card of UFC 292 back in August in Boston, landing a one-sided unanimous decision win over the division’s most winningest fighter, Neil Magny in Massachusetts.

Forced from a return at UFC 296 back in December, Garry was removed from the card amid a battle with pneumonia, resulting in the cancelling of a scheduled fight with training partner, Vicente Luque, and the rebooking of a bout with Neal for February.

Ian Garry addresses Sean Strickland rivalry

Releasing a ‘hitlist’ of fighters he hopes to stand opposite in 2024, Garry first penned the above-mentioned, Neal, before then listing former interim champion, Colby Covington, and finally, incumbent middleweight best, Strickland.

And divulging his desire to fight the outspoken middleweight champion, Garry, who predicted Strickland would be without his championship in tow come the end of the year, also vowed to give him such a bad beating he would forget the childhood trauma he has openly discussed.

“I’m gonna get my hands on him (Sean Strickland),” Ian Garry told MMA Fighting. “In an ideal world, towards the end of the year – I don’t think Sean Strickland is going to be world champion anymore.”

“And I believe there’s an absolutely ideal opportunity for me to step up to middleweight and give him a hiding,” Ian Garry explained. “And maybe, maybe I’ll beat him so bad that he’ll forget all that trauma from his childhood. And he can thank me.”

Slated to make his comeback at UFC 297 this month, Strickland takes on South African contender, Dricus du Plessis in a middleweight championship headliner.

Ian Garry hits out at UFC rival Sean Strickland don't ever project your pain onto my family

Undefeated welterweight contender, Ian Garry has accused undisputed middleweight champion, Sean Strickland of “projecting” his childhood trauma and life-views on him and his family amid a recent rivalry between the two, urging the champion to first point the mirror to himself rather than anyone else.

Garry, the current number ten ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since he turned in a one-sided unanimous decision win over Neil Magny back in August at UFC 292, landing a shutout judging win over the division’s most winning-est fighter.

And as for Strickland, fresh from a September upset win over Israel Adesanya to land the undisputed middleweight title in Australia, the outspoken kingpin returns to the Octagon at UFC 297 this month in Canada, taking on the unbeaten Dricus du Plessis in a heated grudge match between the two.

Engaging in a scuffle and high-profile brawl with Pretoria native, du Plessis at UFC 296 on fighter row, Strickland claimed that fighters should never cross the line on childhood trauma, family, or a fighter’s spouse during their attempt to get under their skin.

Ian Garry hits back at Sean Strickland

However, fighting back at Strickland after the middleweight champion targeted Garry and his relationship with his manager, Layla Anna-Lee, the Dubliner accused the former of “projecting” his trauma onto him.

“How the tables have turned,” Ian Garry posted on Instagram. “You dish it out in the lowest most vile manner but can’t take a pinch. You attacked my wife incessantly and obsessively calling her a pedophile, it’s clear to see your childhood trauma showing. You claimed you were ‘giving me advice’ before, well, now it’s my turn to return the favor. You should shut your mouth and focus on the mirror because you have enough serious issues you need to solve.”

“I wish you all the best with them,” Ian Garry continued. “Don’t ever project your pain onto me and my daily again. Happy New Year.”

Prior to Garry’s comments on Strickland’s feud with du Plessis, the Portmarnock striker laid out a planned ‘hitlist’ of opponents for this year inside the Octagon, which included his UFC 298 return against Geoff Neal, and a grudge match with Colby Covington, as well as a supposed middleweight title siege against Strickland himself

Unbeaten welterweight contender, Ian Garry has put together a three-man hitlist for his 2024 season in the Octagon – beginning with his UFC 298 fight against Geoff Neal, and ending with an apparent middleweight fight against current champion, Sean Strickland.

Garry, the current number ten ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since August of last year, most recently turning in a dominant unanimous decision win over perennial welterweight winner, Neil Magny.

And forced from a December comeback against Vicente Luque through a battle with pneumonia, Garry is set for an appearance at UFC 298 in February in Anaheim, California, in the form of a rescheduled fight with rival, Neal.

Receiving a recent call out from former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington following the culmination of UFC 296 last month, Garry’s personal life and marriage with manager, Layla Anna-Lee has been the point of interest for the Clovis native in recent weeks.

Another fighter who has had his fair share to say on Garry’s relationship with Anna-Lee comes in the form of undisputed middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, who headlines UFC 297 this month against Dricus du Plessis.

Apparently locking eyes at the UFC Performance Institue in Las Vegas last month, Strickland urged Garry to settle their differences in the form of a melee, with the Dubliner weighing up a potential middleweight leap.

“Making my list for 2024,” Ian Garry posted on Instagram.

Kevin Holland is gearing up for a return to the Octagon at UFC 299 in March.

‘Trailblazer’ will welcome former Bellator MMA standout Michael ‘Venom’ Page to the UFC when the promotion returns to Kaseya Arena in sunny Miami, Florida. Offering fans a glimpse into his training camp, Holland showed off his training attire which featured a t-shirt brandishing a headshot of rising Irish contender Ian Garry with the word ‘Wagged’ underneath.

In July, Garry came under fire when he started selling t-shirts featuring the mugshot of his originally scheduled UFC 292 opponent, Geoff Neal.

Kevin Holland and other UFC Fighters continue to pour it on Ian Garry

Since then, ‘The Future’ has been lambasted by fans and fighters alike, most of it surrounding his unconventional marriage to Layla Anna-Lee. 14 years older than Garry, Anna-Lee wrote a book more than a decade ago entitled How to Be a WAG. Described by Garry and his wife as satire, the 11-page publication offered advice to older women looking to date young athletes and celebrities.

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland went straight for the jugular, calling Anna-Lee a “succubus” and “predator” in a series of scathing videos on social media. Multiple fighters have since jumped on the bandwagon, including Colby Covington and, of course, Kevin Holland.

Garry was scheduled to appear at the promotion’s final pay-per-view of 2023, but he withdrew hours before the event due to pneumonia. However, many questioned the timing of his withdrawal given all the backlash he had endured over the weeks leading up to his clash with Vicente Luque.

The Irishman is expected to return at UFC 298 in February against the man he was set to scrap with in August, Geoff Neal.

Again turning his attention to welterweight contender, Ian Garry and his wife and manager, Layla Anna-Lee – outspoken former interim champion, Colby Covington has offered to “settle” the pair’s rivalry next, in the form of a rumored fight between the two.

Covington, the current number five ranked welterweight contender, headlined UFC 296 earlier this month against undisputed champion, Leon Edwards, suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss to the Birmingham native in his third attempt to strike undisputed gold.

As for Garry, the unbeaten Dubliner was scheduled to make his return on that same flagship card, until a battle with pneumonia during fight week forced him to withdraw from a set fight with Vicente Luque.

Questioning the status of Portmarnock native, Garry’s relationship with Anna-Lee – Covington alluded to apparent infidelity from the latter, questioning media and fans attending a fight week press conference if they had engaged in sexual intercourse with Garry’s spouse.

Colby Covington takes aim at Ian Garry and his wife

And continuing his tirade aimed at the Dublin-born striker in the aftermath of his loss to Edwards, Covington labelled 26-year-old a cuckold, before offering to fight him inside the Octagon next.

“There is one guy that is a legitimate cuck and I’ve called him out for that,” Colby Covington said of Ian Garry during a recent interview with Tucker Carlson. “I found out that this had happened, the girls as selling a book called ‘WAG’ – which means ‘wifes and girlfriends’. So, she was promoting that she had a boyfriend and she had a husband. It shouldn’t be allowed, it’s pretty nasty behaviour.”

“He was pretty angry,” Colby Covington explained. “I think he probably wants to settle the differences in the Octagon, and it just so happens, I like to fight in the Octagon,” Colby Covington explained. “So, if it needs to happen one day, I’d be honored to settle that.” (H/T MMA News)

Slated to make his respective return to the Octagon at UFC 298 in February of next year in Anaheim, California, Garry takes on Geoff Neal in a rescheduled bout – and recently claimed that hateful comments and slander he was receiving online was simply not real
