Ian Garry earned his twelfth straight win on Saturday at UFC Charlotte, securing a first-round technical knockout against No. 15 ranked welterweight contender Daniel Rodriguez.

It was another spectacular showing from the budding Irish contender as Garry faced his toughest test inside the Octagon. With 2:15 left in the first round, Garry unleashed a head kick that connected, rocking ‘D-Rod’ in the process. With his opponent stumbling backward, Garry pursued throwing a series of strikes that sent his opponent to the canvas. Smelling blood in the water, ‘The Future’ turned up the heat and unloaded on Rodriguez with a hearty helping of ground-and-pound strikes forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage.

With the victory, Ian Garry made it 12-in-a-row and five straight inside the Octagon. He will likely have a number next to his name come Monday. Daniel Rodriguez has now lost back-to-back bouts, falling to 7-3 under the UFC banner and 17-4 overall.

Official Results: Ian Garry def. Daniel Rodriguez via TKO (strikes) at 2:57 of Round 1.

Undefeated Irish prospect Ian Garry may be partially responsible for Daniel Rodriguez’s struggle to make weight for their scheduled scrap on Saturday.

The UFC will head to Charlotte, NC for a Fight Night event headlined by a heavyweight clash between top-ten-ranked contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik and streaking Brazilian standout Jailton Almeida. Before stepping inside the Octagon, all 22 fighters stepped on the scale for their respective bouts. When it came time for ‘D-Rod’ to weigh in, the California native came in a half-pound overweight, putting their main card matchup in jeopardy and Ian Garry may have been partially to blame.

In a video shared on social media, ‘The Future’ decided to deliver temptation right to Rodriguez’s door the night before weigh-ins. In the clip, which you can see below, Garry is observed leaving a pizza and some weed for his UFC on ABC 4 opponent.

Daniel Rodriguez Made Weight on His Second Attempt Despite Ian Garry’s Prank Pizza

Ian Garry’s prank may have been a little too effective. Fortunately, Rodriguez was able to make weight on his second attempt, keeping their fight from cancelation. Upon hearing Rodriguez’s initial weight, fans immediately began speculating if Garry’s harmless caper actually sabotaged his own fight.

With ‘D-Rod’ now on weight, he will now look to get back into the win column after seeing his four-fight win streak snapped at the hands of Neil Magny in November. That will be no easy task as he’s matched up with Ian Garry. ‘The Future’ has lived up to his moniker thus far, earning 11 straight wins, four under the UFC banner. Garry has scored decision victories over Darian Weeks and Gabe Green inside the Octagon while adding two highlight-reel-worthy knockouts against Jordan Williams and Gabe Green.

If Ian Garry can make it 12-0 on Saturday night, he will likely take Daniel Rodriguez’s No. 15 spot in the welterweight rankings.

Kevin Holland warns Ian Garry ahead of potential clash: ‘Stay far the f*ck away’

Kevin Holland had some strong words of advice for rising welterweight prospect Ian Garry.

‘Trailblazer’ got back into the win column with a highlight-reel-worthy knockout of Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 287 last weekend. Following his victory, Kevin Holland made an appearance on MMA Junkie Radio to discuss his third-round finish against the Argentinian and what may come next.

“I really don’t feel the need to call too many people out – I mean, at 170,” Holland said. “If anybody at ’85 wants to fight again, we could do it. If anybody who’s ever beat me at 170 wants to do it again, we can do it. Other than that, it’s whoever the organization wants me to fight. If they want to keep giving me people that’s outside of the top 15, I’m cool with that too” (h/t MMA Junkie).

However, there was one man that Kevin Holland wanted to address; streaking Irish standout Ian Garry.

“I seen Ian Garry called my name,” Holland continued. “I think the dude is on a hell of a trajectory. I think he’s doing great things. I think he’s on the way to the top, and if he feels that I’m a name that he needs to help himself to the top, I think he should stay far the f*ck away, because he likes to strike and he does get dropped with a left hook. If you’ve seen my left hook these days, like I said, newfound relationship. It hurts. And the right hand, by time he’s ready to fight, will be crisp.

“I just don’t think it’s a smart fight for Ian Garry right this second. Like I said, maybe one day he’ll be a titleholder and I’ll be a BMF holder, and we can clash it up for big dollars or something like that.”

Ian Garry is 11-0 in his mixed martial career, including four-straight wins inside the Octagon. He’ll look to make it a dozen W’s on May 13 when he squares off with Daniel Rodriguez at a UFC Fight Night card in North Carolina.

Kevin Holland Could Make Another Quick Turnaround

Despite being less than a week removed from his win over Santiago Ponzinibbio, Kevin Holland is ready to get back inside the cage. ‘Trailblazer’ suggested he could return as early as May, noting that a clash with The Ultimate Fighter 15 winner Michael Chiesa could be on the horizon.

“I think May would be really quick, but I think that I would be rightfully so ready for a Chiesa fight if he wanted to step in there in May,” Holland told MMA Junkie Radio. “If not, we could do it after May, or whoever they have lined up for me, whenever they want me to go. It really doesn’t matter. If I get to go soon, awesome. If not, I could wait until slightly after July.”

“… Chiesa was just hot on the mind because he had a chance to fight on the card, didn’t get a chance to fight on the card. I never know what another man’s making, I never know what another man’s doing, I never know if another man has plans with his money that he’s potentially about to make, but I can at least offer a man a chance to get his show money by whooping his f*cking ass. So, that’s the least I can do.”

Up-and-coming UFC welterweight prospect Ian Garry is confident in his chances of winning a fight against welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

Not only is the Irishman confident he could beat Edwards in a pure striking battle, but he also stated that the champion would agree with his statement:

“If you ask Leon, ‘Leon, if you were fighting Ian on the feet, could Ian win?’ He’d say ‘Yes, he could.’” Ian Garry told reporter, Peter Carroll during an appearance on The Craic. “Leon would sit there and say, ‘Maybe I’m a bit cleaner.’ Maybe he might argue his case, but that’s not the question.

“It’s ‘Could Ian win?’ I guarantee you he’d say yes. You ask Shavkat (Rakhmonov) the same thing, I guarantee you he’d say yes. This is the thing, it’s like the world doesn’t know what my grappling is like. Everyone assumes I’m a striker, everybody assumes that I’m just all (fighting) on the feet, you take me down you can suffocate me. Then fucking do it then. Do it. Let’s see.”

Leon Edwards just defeated Kamaru Usman in their trilogy bout to make the first defense of his UFC welterweight championship, and another of his teammates, Shavkat Rakhmonov, has blown through everyone he’s ever fought.

Edwards is 21-3 as a professional and he hasn’t lost since 2015, going unbeaten through his last 12 appearances.

Then we have Rakhmonov, who’s 17-0 as a professional (5-0 UFC) with 17 finishes (8 knockout, 9 submission). Both he and Edwards are true technicians everywhere the fight goes.

For a 25 year old to have success against them in the training room, that just speaks to the wicked potential he has in this sport.

Ian Garry has made it to 11-0 (4-0 UFC) thus far into his career as a professional, securing seven finishes in that time following a one-year run as an amateur that saw him go 6-1. And, in his fight prior to joining the UFC, Ian Garry won the Cage Warriors welterweight championship via unanimous decision.

Ian Garry has been five rounds before, he overcame adversity in his last fight when he was rocked badly, but didn’t lose an ounce of his composure and continued fighting brilliantly up until he TKO’d his opponent late in round three, and he’s an incredibly technical striker.

With a supposed five-plus years until he’s at his athletic peak, Ian Garry certainly has a very bright future in this sport.

With a five-fight win streak since returning to the welterweight division, Joaquin Buckley now finds himself ranked inside the top 10 at 170-pounds. His latest win was also his biggest, stopping Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 307 to climb to the #9-spot.

Now, Buckley is looking for another opponent that can put him into the title picture after beating the likes of Thompson, Nursulton Ruziboev and Vicente Luque. The issue he’s encountering is that many of the big names ahead of him are not interested in taking the fight.

In order for Buckley to get within reach of a title shot, he will need another big name on his resume but that’s not possible if he can’t make this line up for him. In a recent interview with Inside Fighting, Buckley was asked who he thinks would accept a fight with him that’s currently above him in the rankings.

He struggled to think of too many examples, picking out three names in the end with one of them being the current champion.

“Accept a fight? That’s a hard one. I believe the ones that are true fighters and true martial artists who would love to step into the cage with me are JDM (Jack Della Maddalena), is one of them… Damn, that’s kinda crazy, when I really start to think about it. Ian Garry probably… Belal Muhammad, that’s it bro. That’s it. When you talk about really wanna step in the cage with me, I don’t think there’s a lot of dudes that went to step in there with me.”

Buckley then proceeded to list several names that he doesn’t think would agree to fight him, including Kamaru Usman who he called out after his most recent win.

“Gilbert don’t want to step in there with me, Leon Edwards wouldn’t want to step in there with me, Colby Covington wouldn’t want to step in there with me. We see Usman didn’t want that work. Sean Brady blocked me from Instagram so he definitely don’t want to get the work. There’s not a lot of guys that’s willing to step in that cage with me, I’ll tell you that.”
