Former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Ian Garry will make his third UFC appearance at UFC 276 against Gabe Green.

Green’s management, Iridium Sports Agency, was among the first to report the news of the fight with Garry.

Garry has passed his first two UFC tests since making the move from Cage Warriors last year. He won his debut over Jordan Williams at UFC 268 before earning a unanimous decision win over Darian Weeks at UFC 273.

Garry will make the quick turnaround and fight Green on July 2 at UFC 276, which caps off the UFC’s International Fight Week festivities.

Green presents another tough challenge for Garry, having won back-to-back fights since a UFC debut loss to Daniel Rodriguez. He earned a unanimous decision win over Phil Rowe at UFC 258 before finishing Yohan Lainesse back in April.

Before getting his shot in the UFC, Green enjoyed brief stints with promotions such as Bellator and Combate. Despite a submission win over Chris Padilla at Bellator 192, the promotion opted not to re-sign him.

The 24-year-old Garry could move one step closer to a potential spot in the welterweight rankings with a win. As for Green, he’s looking to hand Garry his first professional loss and make a name for himself on a big stage.

Former Cage Warriors middleweight champion, Matthew Bonner has plans to eventually make the proven transition from the Graham Boylan-led promotion to the UFC in the future – and if he could pick a debut opponent, a matchup against former Cage Warriors titleholder, Ian Garry certainly piques his interest.

Matthew Bonner, who plys his trade at Next Generation MMA in Liverpool, boasts a 12-7-1 professional record, and managed to land his second consecutive victory back at Cage Warriors 137 earlier this month, submitting Joel Kouadja with a stunning one-armed rear-naked choke win.

Clinching the middleweight title back in June of last year, Bonner submitted Nathias Frederick with a fourth round stoppage, however, would drop his title in his next outing against Djati Melan.

Prior to his win against Kouadja, Bonner had returned to the winner’s enclosure with another career submission win – rebounding with a rear-naked choke triumph against Hugo Pereira.

Matthew Bonner welcomes a UFC bow against Cage Warriors alum Ian Garry

Discussing a potential move to the UFC in the future, Bonner told LowKick MMA reporter, Frank Bonada during an interview how a debut Octagon outing against Dublin upstart, Garry is something that interests him.

“I would love to fight Ian Garry, I would love to fight Ian Garry,” Matthew Bonner said. “I just think he brings a lot of attention to the fight, and you’ll bring a lot of fans, because of that. He drills up a lot of attention, you know. People know who he is, he’s an undefeated prospect.”

“I do think he’s very beatable as well,” Matthew Bonner said. “I still think he’s quite – he looks quite young in the game, he’s quite naive I think in some respect. His mouth is on point, but I don’t think his skills are just, quite there yet. I do think my style, in terms of being tough, being durable and just walking somebody down, would just cause him an awful lot of problems. I’ve only spoken to him very briefly once, and that was when I beat his teammate, James Webb at the time. … I don’t dislike the guy, but I’d love to fight Ian Garry. I think that would tick a lot of boxes for me fighting him.”

Undefeated as a professional, Garry, who now plys his trade at Sanford MMA in Deerfield Beach, Florida at Sanford MMA – stopped Jordan Williams in his UFC bow back in November at Madison Square Garden, before defeating Darian Weeks with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 273 in the ‘Sunshine State’ in April.

Ian Garry isn’t going to let the hat from trolls get to him.

Ian Garry is one of the new kids on the block in the UFC. Garry has only had two fights in the organization so far, but the hype around him is constantly growing. The Irish fighter has been compared to Conor McGregor. And although he is receiving a great deal of praise, as is common in sports, with the praise also comes the hate.

Garry isn’t going to let the hate he receives get to him. He spoke to The Mirror about his mindset and how he reacts to criticism.

“I don’t give a s*** what other people say,” he said. “I dominated from the first second to the last, I left victorious, I’m 9-0, now I go into my next fight where I’ll go 10-0, I’m 24-years-old and I won’t be caring what they say because I am loving my life.

Garry made his UFC debut on the massive UFC 268 card in New York City. Aptly nicknamed “The Future,” Garry quickly proved in that debut that he has the personality and the skills to become a star in the sport. He defeated Jordan Williams via first-round KO and started his UFC career off his a bang.

He made his second appearance inside the UFC Octagon at UFC 273 just a few weeks ago. This time he was victorious again but by unanimous decision over Darian Weeks. Without a finish, in came the nitpicker.

“Whatever people want to say, let them say it because again, you can’t take away from what’s in here, I know how good I am, I know what I did and I’m happy with the results. I’m going to chill out, get my head down, recover, relax and get back to training so I can be back in that cage soon,” he said.

“People can have mixed reactions, let them say what they want because nobody is going to have any opinion that can faze me. I’m going to be sat there with the belt wrapped around my waist in a few years still undefeated, still looking this handsome and all I do for a living is beat the s*** out of people, no one will be able to argue with that.”

Garry is a young fighter at just 24 years old and is undefeated in his nine professional fights. He could have a long and successful career ahead of him with a few more good wins and this kind of attitude.

Ian Garry

Former Cage Warriors champion Ian Garry will return for his second act in the UFC against Darian Weeks at UFC 273 on April 9.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff and Iridium Sports Agency were among the first to report the news of the booking.

Garry passed his first UFC test with flying colors, getting the early knockout with one second left in the first round against Jordan Williams at UFC 268. He was arguably one of if not the biggest signing by the promotion in 2021.

Garry will face a tough test against another welterweight prospect in Weeks. He most recently fell via unanimous decision to Bryan Barberena for the first loss of his professional career after successful stints in LFA and Midwest Fight League.

Garry has been compared to another Irishman and former CW champion, Conor McGregor. After his debut win over Williams, he infamously alluded to a McGregor quote with his “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over” declaration.

Garry most recently earned the praise of former UFC title challenger Michael Chandler. The two of them train together down at the world-renowned Sanford MMA gym in Florida.

Before signing with the UFC, Garry earned the CW welterweight championship over Jack Grant at CW 125. He would go on to garner the attention of the UFC brass just weeks later and made his promotional debut at the end of the year.

At 24 years old, Garry is expected to be a welterweight to watch for years to come. If he can earn another impressive win over Weeks, he could move one step closer to a spot in the UFC rankings.

Do you think Ian Garry is a future UFC champion?
