Ian Garry isn’t going to let the hat from trolls get to him.

Ian Garry is one of the new kids on the block in the UFC. Garry has only had two fights in the organization so far, but the hype around him is constantly growing. The Irish fighter has been compared to Conor McGregor. And although he is receiving a great deal of praise, as is common in sports, with the praise also comes the hate.

Garry isn’t going to let the hate he receives get to him. He spoke to The Mirror about his mindset and how he reacts to criticism.

“I don’t give a s*** what other people say,” he said. “I dominated from the first second to the last, I left victorious, I’m 9-0, now I go into my next fight where I’ll go 10-0, I’m 24-years-old and I won’t be caring what they say because I am loving my life.

Garry made his UFC debut on the massive UFC 268 card in New York City. Aptly nicknamed “The Future,” Garry quickly proved in that debut that he has the personality and the skills to become a star in the sport. He defeated Jordan Williams via first-round KO and started his UFC career off his a bang.

He made his second appearance inside the UFC Octagon at UFC 273 just a few weeks ago. This time he was victorious again but by unanimous decision over Darian Weeks. Without a finish, in came the nitpicker.

“Whatever people want to say, let them say it because again, you can’t take away from what’s in here, I know how good I am, I know what I did and I’m happy with the results. I’m going to chill out, get my head down, recover, relax and get back to training so I can be back in that cage soon,” he said.

“People can have mixed reactions, let them say what they want because nobody is going to have any opinion that can faze me. I’m going to be sat there with the belt wrapped around my waist in a few years still undefeated, still looking this handsome and all I do for a living is beat the s*** out of people, no one will be able to argue with that.”

Garry is a young fighter at just 24 years old and is undefeated in his nine professional fights. He could have a long and successful career ahead of him with a few more good wins and this kind of attitude.

Former Cage Warriors champion Ian Garry will return for his second act in the UFC against Darian Weeks at UFC 273 on April 9.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff and Iridium Sports Agency were among the first to report the news of the booking.

Garry passed his first UFC test with flying colors, getting the early knockout with one second left in the first round against Jordan Williams at UFC 268. He was arguably one of if not the biggest signing by the promotion in 2021.

Garry will face a tough test against another welterweight prospect in Weeks. He most recently fell via unanimous decision to Bryan Barberena for the first loss of his professional career after successful stints in LFA and Midwest Fight League.

Garry has been compared to another Irishman and former CW champion, Conor McGregor. After his debut win over Williams, he infamously alluded to a McGregor quote with his “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over” declaration.

Garry most recently earned the praise of former UFC title challenger Michael Chandler. The two of them train together down at the world-renowned Sanford MMA gym in Florida.

Before signing with the UFC, Garry earned the CW welterweight championship over Jack Grant at CW 125. He would go on to garner the attention of the UFC brass just weeks later and made his promotional debut at the end of the year.

At 24 years old, Garry is expected to be a welterweight to watch for years to come. If he can earn another impressive win over Weeks, he could move one step closer to a spot in the UFC rankings.

Michael Chandler has boldly predicted that Ian Garry will become a UFC champion in the next couple of years.

The Irishman enjoyed an excellent 2021 that saw him become the Cage Warriors welterweight champion before getting called up to the UFC.

Garry debuted at Madison Square Garden, on the same card Chandler went to war with Justin Gaethje and looked impressive. ‘The Future’ knocked out Jordan Williams inside one round to announce himself as the next potential Irish superstar.

The 23-year-old relocated to Florida in 2021 and has been training with the likes of Chandler, Gilbert Burns, Vicente Luque, and Derek Brunson at Sanford MMA ever since.

During a recent interview with ESPN’s Megan Olivi, Chandler had nothing but good things to say about Garry who he thinks has the potential to make it to the top of the sport.

“We had a couple of conversations and then I was like, okay, obviously the talent is there, you know?” Chandler said. “His body type, his confidence in himself, the part of the world that he comes from – he’s a young, brash Irishman who does not lack confidence in any area of his life. And that’s something I’m attracted to as well. Even as a 35-year-old – a guy who has been in the game for a decade longer than he has – I still try to remember myself as that young, hungry, nothing-to-lose kind of guy.

Michael Chandler Says Ian Garry’s Rise Will Be A Quick One

The 3X Bellator champion believes Garry will quickly rise through the UFC ranks and become a champion in the organization within the next two years, he said.

“And I think my fight style shows it, my attention to detail shows it because I want to live a champion lifestyle. And it’s just awesome to see these guys come in and even Ian himself, I think his game is on a trajectory to the moon. I think he will be world champion in the next couple of years.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler still has championship ambitions, but he’s got his eyes on a teammate who may beat him to it.

Chandler fell short in a Fight of the Year contender against Justin Gaethje at UFC 268. Despite the defeat, Chandler earned plenty of respect and support from the UFC fanbase and is a big name in the lightweight division. He also had to apologize to his wife afterward for the sheer brutality of the contest.

Chandler trains down at Sanford MMA alongside some of the top UFC talents, including Gilbert Burns and, formerly, Kamaru Usman. But one particular teammate of his, Ian Garry, has impressed him since joining the gym last year.

During a recent interview with ESPN’s Megan Olivi, Chandler praised Garry and made quite the prediction for his UFC future.

Before signing with the UFC, Garry made waves by earning the then-vacant Cage Warriors welterweight title over Jack Grant at CW 125. Coincidentally, this is the same promotion where his fellow countryman, Conor McGregor, began his rise to stardom.

Garry made a nod to McGregor during his post-fight interview at UFC 268, alluding to his “We’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over” quote.

Chandler and Garry are in different weight classes but could benefit from one another in training. Both men could be in the title conversation by the end of 2022.

Ian Garry Won’t Acknowledge Callouts From ‘Online Cowards’

Ian Garry won’t be paying attention to any fighter calling him out on social media.

Garry had a successful UFC debut on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden as he scored a first-round KO win over Jordan Williams. Early on, Garry was getting hit but he made a good adjustment and caught Williams with a clean right hand.

After the win, the Irishman said this is the takeover part two and many are already looking forward to seeing who he fights next. Yet, for Garry, he says he’ll face anyone the UFC gives him but won’t be responding to anyone calling him on social media.

“Typing sh*t online isn’t calling someone out. Sending a tweet out, putting something on Instagram isn’t how we do this. You want some of this, get on to Dana (White). Get on to Sean Shelby,” Garry said post-fight after UFC 268. “Get on to Mick Maynard. Don’t talk some sh*t online. I’m game – I’ll say yes. I’m a competitor.

“You think you’re better than me? Let’s see. But don’t chat some sh*t online. Anybody who chats sh*t online is going to rule it out: You’re a coward. If you chat sh*t online, you’re just trying to get attention because I’ve got some hype and you want a bit of it. If you’re real about it, get on with the guys, make the fight, and let’s do it.”

Although Garry doesn’t like fighters calling him out on social media, that is how many fighters angle for and get fights. However, the Irishman is old school and would rather deal with everything behind closed doors and let the UFC handle all that.

With the win at UFC 268, Garry is now 8-0 as a pro. Prior to the signing with the UFC, he was the Cage Warriors welterweight champion.

Ian Garry Eyes Future Title Fight With Khamzat Chimaev

Ian Garry has just made his promotional debut, but the 23-year-old already has one eye on UFC gold and he predicts he’ll eventually face Khamzat Chimaev for the welterweight title.

‘The Future’ struggled to get going against Jordan Williams at UFC 268 but was still able to close the show inside one round by countering his opponent with a picture-perfect right-hand before scoring a walk-off KO.

Garry admitted post-fight that his win over Williams was not his best work but went on to say getting the victory is all that really matters.

“Tonight, was it the cleanest performance? No, but did I do what I said I was going to do? Yes. So, that’s all that matters,” Garry said. “I’m going to keep doing that and people are always gonna say ‘oh I can beat this guy’, so do it. Let’s see it. Give me the guy that’s going to do it.

In the UFC 268 main event, Kamaru Usman defended the 170lb strap in a five-round war with Colby Covington. At the post-fight press conference, Garry explained that by the time he reaches title contention Chimaev will have succeeded Usman as champ.

“The only two people that I can think are gonna do it right now are Khamzat and Kamaru [Usman], because they’re the two guys who are the s*** at the moment,” Garry said.

“Kamaru’s the champ, Khamzat is going to be the champ, then it’s going to be me and Khamzat fighting for that belt in a couple of years. Potentially for both belts, as he fights at middleweight too.” (Transcribed by Mirror Fighting)

What’s Next For Ian Garry?

Ahead of his UFC debut, Garry sat down for an interview with us and spoke about what could be next with a successful win over Williams.

“Look, depending on how fast this fight finishes we’ll see what’s up,” Garry told LowKickMMA. “You know that December 11th card (UFC 269) looks pretty tasty. So, maybe we could do a quick one at that but in reality and being smart I think the best decision is to probably wait until March 2022.”

The Irishman is dead set on maintaining the perfect record he stretched to 7-0 at UFC 268 for as long as possible.

“I’m very young, man. I’m 23. There’s not a lot of 23-year-olds in the UFC that are undefeated that have the potential and hype that I do,” Garry said. “I’m going to take my time. I’m not going to milk this cow dry. I’m going to take my time and enjoy every second of it because I’m going to be a UFC champion.”
