“2 keep it real, the Shogun fight will have 2 wait,I just found out that I have 2 get surgery on both knees, but I heal fast don’t trip…John Jones fucked the left knee,n my sparing partner @antiheromma fucked the right 1,thanks guy!! But I’m not worried I got the best docs”
Surgery? Just rub some testosterone on those creaky knees and get back in the game, homey! There’s no current timetable for Jackson’s recovery and return, but it’s certainly bad timing for Rampage to be dealing with such a major procedure before his final fight with the UFC. As Shogun could tell you himself, your first fight back after knee surgery doesn’t always go so well.
(“Also? I think my nuts be all hyperextended and shit.”)

With all of the resistance New York and it’s crooked supporters have put up against the legalization of MMA in the Empire State, it’s surprising that none of these do-gooder groups have ever raised a stink about any really dangerous sports like football, or cheerleading — the latter of which accounts for nearly 67 percent of catastrophic sporting injuries in females.

A recent report showed that between 1982 and 2007, there were 103 fatal, disabling or serious injuries and three deaths recorded among female high school athletes, with the vast majority occurring in cheerleading. The study went on to say that 25% of NCAA Insurance program funding went towards cheerleading-related injuries.

What’s funny is that the sport, which basically has no regulation in terms of what level of expertise coaches and trainers must have (outside of a handful of schools who recently begun checking), nor does it have a set minimum training or experience requirement for its participants, is accepted across North America and has never faced a possible ban like MMA did in New York in 1997.

Most cases for the legalization of MMA have included the staggering statistics of cheerleading-related injuries to point out the hypocrisy of opponents of the sport, who claim that fighting is unsafe because of the number of injuries incurred by its athletes. Such arguments often fail when stat sheets are brought out to demonstrate just how few mixed martial arts bouts end in injury, besides minor ones like finger and hand sprains or dislocations.
You can bet we’ll never see Bob Reilly supporting a bill to ban cheerleading in New York, mostly because it won’t get him the votes of his constituents with ulterior motives or campaign contributions from conflicting parties like the Culinary Union.

We’re only a few hours into the new year, but unless your head hit the pillow just as the ball dropped, you’ve probably already carried some of your bad habits with you into 2012. We are creatures of habit, and change doesn’t come naturally to us. If it did, we wouldn’t make such a big production out of our ‘New Year’s Resolutions’. The sport of mixed martial arts and its fans are no different. Here’s a quick look at some of the bad habits we’ve picked up and poor decisions we’ve made over the past 12-months. Let’s hope we can leave them behind in yesteryear.

If I cared about people’s feelings I probably wouldn’t read this site and I certainly would write half of what I do, so don’t look to me to carry the torch for easily offended. And while I also think that it’s certainly not in the best interest of any public figure to use divisive, hateful language, it’s their right to speak their mind and live or die by their words. Lastly, although these incidents have been used by our enemies to suppress our mainstream progress, I don’t think anything short of an in-Octagon death can stop us now.
So why am I opposed to this controversial language? Simple: I don’t want a poor choice of words coming between me and great fights. We’ve already seen one fighter cut, albeit briefly, for an off-color joke, and I don’t want it to happen again. Had the UFC pulled the plug on the Brock experiment after his UFC 100 tirade, we would have missed out on many of the highs and lows of his polarizing career. And just imagine how less interesting the welterweight division would be right now if Diaz’s many past crimes were held against him. If we continue down this road, a major star is going to cross the line and we’ll all be deprived of great fights. That’s why it’s time to draw a line in the sand.

Another super-fight, up in smoke. Chicago’s MMA informs us that War Machine‘s post-prison return fight against Gideon Ray has been scratched from the main event of Chicago Cagefighting Championship 4 (October 15th; Villa Park, IL). From a press-release sent out by the promoter:
Over the weekend Gideon informed Chicago Cagefighting that he had suffered an injury to his hand and would not be able to compete. To compound problems, War Machine suffered a cut to his chin during training and is not able to train for at least a week. When a suitable replacement for Gideon could not be found, we made a tough decision. With only three weeks to the event we were forced to cancel the entire bout.
(Still got it.)

In our continuing effort to bring the best possible show to our fans, CCC was able to sign Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle. Sean has a pedigree as big as the cage and his only 2 losses came in the UFC. Sean is looking to get back to the top and felt that a win in the “Windy City” would help get him there. “Big Sexy” will be taking on Justin “The Griz” Grizzard. This will be CCC’s first Super Heavyweight fight and we know the fans will certainly get their monies worth.
According to MixedMartialArts.com, Grizzard is a 7-13 jobber from Omaha who’s listed at 230 pounds, making this more of an open-weight squash-match than a super-heavyweight fight. Since his release from the UFC, McCorkle has picked up a pair of first-round submission victories in regional promotions; one of his opponents even had a winning record. (The other one definitely didn’t.) Good luck to Big Sexy — not that he’ll need it — and condolences to the Chicago-area MMA fans who wanted to be the first to throw cups of beer at War Machine.
