Dana White confirms plan for Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya rematch UFC 293 title fight

Following Israel Adesanya’s shocking loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293, Dana White suggested that an immediate rematch is the way to go.

Emanating from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, fight fans were treated to an exciting night of scraps, but by the time the evening was over, all anybody could talk about was Strickland’s dominant performance against ‘The Last Stylebender’ to claim the middleweight world title. Once the reality of the situation set in, everyone’s attention quickly turned to what would be next for both Strickland and Adesanya.

Addressing members of the media, UFC President Dana White suggested that an immediate rematch is what makes the most sense to him, but it will ultimately come down to what Adesanya wants to do.

“I think you do the rematch, absolutely. I think the rematch is interesting,” White said during the post-fight press event. “That could be the thing too. When you think about you’re going into the Pereira fight. Such a big fight and you’ve been in there with this guy so many times and then you overlook Strickland. I don’t know. I don’t know the answers to these questions, but Israel does and I’m looking forward to hearing it.”

There are Far More Intriguing Matchups Than Strickland vs. Adesanya 2

Considering Adesanya regained the title in an immediate rematch against long-time foe Alex Pereira in April, many fight fans on social media were quick to speak out against the possibility of the ‘Stylebender’ running it back with Sean Strickland right away. Not to mention the UFC’s backlog of top-ten fighters looking for their own opportunity to fight for the title.

The matchup that makes the most sense would see Sean Strickland defending against the division’s No. 1 ranked contender, Dricus Du Plessis. But perhaps a new middleweight contender will emerge at UFC 294 next month when Paulo Costa returns to take on undefeated Chechen monster Khamzat Chimaev. Then you have Jared Cannonier who actually holds a victory over the new middleweight champ.

Needless to say, there are far more interesting matchups than Strickland vs. Adesanya 2.

In one of the most shocking upset victories in the Octagon’s antiquity, massive betting underdog, Sean Strickland has landed the undisputed middleweight championship tonight in the main event of UFC 293 — scoring a first round knockdown against Israel Adesanya en route to a jaw-dropping unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) win at UFC 293 in Sydney, Australia.

Strickland, who entered a championship challenge for the first time in his Octagon tenure tonight, became the first fighter in the UFC to score an official knockdown against Adesanya, countering the City Kickboxing staple at the Octagon fence in the opening frame, landing a flush one-two combination and sending the Nigerian-Kiwi to the canvas.

Israel Adesanya has issued a stark warning to incoming title challenger, Sean Strickland at UFC 293 tonight, claiming he will break the jaw of the Covina native if he elects to flap his gums in their undisputed middleweight title fight.

Adesanya, who headlines tonight’s Sydney, Australia pay-per-view card against the streaking middleweight challenger, Strickland, attempts to kick off his second reign atop the division with a successful title defense, having reclaimed the title from common-foe, Alex Pereira back in April with a massive second round KO victory in Miami, Florida. 

As for Strickland, the hugely-outspoken contender managed to land his first title challenge under the banner of the promotion back in July, stopping German challenger, Absupiyan Magomedov with a massive second round TKO win at the UFC Apex facility earlier this summer. 

Jarring at Adesanya throughout fight week ahead of their massive title showdown ‘Down Under’ – Strickland even went as far as accusing Adesanya of foul play and called for PETA to investigate footage of the City Kickboxing staple spitting food into his dog’s mouth, and touching him inappropriately.

“I’m gonna break his (Sean Strickland) jaw if he keeps talking to me while we’re in there [the Octagon],” Israel Adesanya told TMZ during a recent interview. “If you keep talking, you never know where the shot’s coming.”

UFC middleweight Sean Strickland shares his views on controversial influencer Andrew Tate.

Strickland is set to challenge Israel Adesanya for his middleweight championship this weekend in the main event of UFC 293. While Strickland has enjoyed a decent run of form since moving up to 185lbs, it has been his actions outside of the cage that have garnered the most attention.

The 32-year-old has used slurs and offensive language while covering a range of topics such as homosexuality, women’s rights, trans people and about everything in between. The American has also revealed rather horrifying details about his past which can give you a little more insight to his mind.

Sean Strickland disses Andrew Tate ahead of UFC 293

While you might think that Strickland and Tate, Strickland would blast the former kickboxer, labelling him as a ‘con artist’.

“We share a lot of values, but… Here’s the thing about Andrew Tate – as a young man I see why you guys look up to him because you guys are morale-less men. You have no values, you have no positive role models, so you latch onto a piece of shit like Tate. you say you ‘I want to be like Tate’, ‘all my problems in the world are because women are fucking me’, that’s not it,”  Strickland said on The Nelk podcast.

“Andrew Tate is a con artist, he [Tate] used to rob people’s savings. To see the way he talked with no remorse, it wasn’t ‘I did something so morally wrong, I took advantage of men, ‘I took money from men’ – it was like ‘nah fuck them, I’m a con-artist, I’m a piece of shit.”

Strickland would not hold back when describing Tate and implored young men not to follow in his footsteps.  

“I’m telling you Andrew Tate he’s not your Messiah he would turn you out for a dollar he’s a f**king pimp he’s a wh*re,” said Sean Strickland. 

“Don’t be like him, don’t want to drive a fucking Bugatti, Andrew Tate you guys – there’s so many better male role models out there.”
