Anderson Silva will fight Israel Adesanya at UFC 234. To ready himself, the former middleweight champ has enlisted the help of the only man to knock out the “Stylebender”.

To help him prepare for the unbeaten phenom, Silva has turned to one of Adesanya’s former adversaries, Glory champion Alex Pereira. MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi reported that Silva has brought Pereira in to train with him in the lead-up to the Adesanya fight.

Pereira is a Brazilian fighter who currently holds the Glory Middleweight world title. He holds two key victories over “The Last Stylebender” under kickboxing rules. In 2016, Pereira and Adesanya first met with the Brazilian taking a decison win. Things got worse for Adesanya one year later when they rematched, as Pereira would knock the “Stylebender” out cold.

Watch below as Pereira uses his footwork to get inside the rangy Adesanya and ultimately land a vicious left hook.

Pereira scores most of his knockouts with his left hook. It’s likely he has been working with Silva on just that. That’s the very same weapon that he used to knock off Dustin Jacoby in a nasty KO found here.

Adesanya is reported to have a boxing record of 75-5-1. While boxing records aren’t always the most accurate, Pereira does account for two of those five losses.

It would seem like Silva has chosen wisely heading into his fight with “The Last Stylebender”. Since losing the middleweight strap to Chris Weidman back in 2013, Silva has scored only one win. He defeated Derek Brunson by decision in a fight that many people thought Brunson won.

Although he is widely considered the middleweight GOAT, he will be a sizable underdog when these two face off at UFC 234.

Michael Bisping makes some interesting comments about rising prospect Israel Adesanya that range from his skillset, future, and a potential fight. “The Last Stylebender” already has his next fight booked as he’ll take on former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at February’s UFC 234 PPV.

The former UFC middleweight champion had a great career and he hung up his gloves back in May 2018. ‘The Count’ achieved redemption in his career featuring a late-career resurgence. This includes wins over Anderson Silva, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson, but his last two fights didn’t go the way he wanted.

Bisping lost to former UFC two-division champ Georges St-Pierre by submission in the main event of the UFC 217 last November. In his final fight, he lost to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Shanghai just three weeks after competing in the biggest fight of his career.

Potential Fight?

The former UFC middleweight champion spoke about Adesanya and how he would be the one name that he would entertain the idea of fighting.

“I like Israel Adesanya but I’ll tell you something. If there’s one person if you asked me who I want to fight right now. It would be Israel,” Bisping said (H/T to MMAFighting). “When I look at him, he’s good, he’s great. But I’m sorry, I’m not buying it. I’m not saying I’m not impressed.

“I’m on the hype train. He’s good, he’s beating people. He’s beating the Marvin Vettoris of the world. He had a good win against Derek Brunson but Derek Brunson looked like sh*t. He was terrified. I think I would have an easy time with him. Just saying, just throwing it out there.”

UFC 234 is set to be held on February 10, 2019, at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on ESPN+.

Three years ago, the MMA world was concerned about a 48-year-old Chuck Liddell fighting after being knocked out by Tito Ortiz. Many of those concerns were also placed on then-43-year-old Anderson Silva in 2018 when he was scheduled to face a rising Israel Adesanya. However, Adesanya believed these concerns were misplaced for a reason as simple as it sounds:

Anderson Silva is not Chuck Liddell.

Headline: Israel Adesanya: Anderson Silva Is Not Chuck Liddell

Perhaps announcing the return of 43-year-old Anderson Silva to go against a young, lethal rising contender could have been timed better, with the MMA world still reeling from the knockout of 48-year-old Chuck Liddell last weekend at the hands of rival Tito Ortiz.

To be sure, Liddell’s brutal knockout serves as a precautionary tale for promoters, athletic commissions, and matchmakers on how to handle aging fighters. But if you ask Israel Adesanya, who will be sharing the Octagon with his hero Anderson Silva at UFC 234, any comparison between Anderson Silva and Chuck Liddell in 2018 are without grounds:

“Look, he’s not Chuck Liddell,” Adesanya said in an interview with Submission Radio. “Because of (Liddell/Ortiz 3), people are like, oh, how dare you? He’s 43! Look, the last time I remember he was finished was when he broke his leg. He hasn’t been losing badly. He beat Derek Brunson. It was a close fight, I guess, but yeah. I think he’s just been bored.”

It was Anderson Silva who was originally not on board with the bout, but when the green light for the bout was granted by “The Spider,” Adesanya’s disappointment swiftly turned to enthusiasm:

“Initially, I was disappointed because I was like, man, this was the guy who liked the big challenges…the ‘great show,” like he used to say. ‘I want a great show.’ And then, he said no to me. I’m like, man, maybe he doesn’t have it anymore.

“And then, he came back last Sunday, and I was like, yep, I want to do it. I’m like, they must have made him an offer he can’t refuse. Instantly, I knew it was like, title shot.

“I’m going to be the guy to bring the best out of him. You’re going to see a different Anderson, the Anderson of old, if you will.”

Do you agree with Israel Adesanya? Does Anderson Silva still have enough to pose a legitimate threat for him at UFC 234?
