Israel Adesanya places $20,000 bet on Patrick Mahomes to win MVP award at tonight's Super Bowel

Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya shows off a $20,000 bet on the Kansas City Chief’s Patrick Mahomes to land the MVP award — ahead of tonight’s Super Bowl.

In America alone, 67.8 million Americans are expected to bet an astounding $23.1 billion on the Superbowl later tonight. It is one of the biggest sporting events in the world and attracts the rich and famous every year, the average ticket price for this year is $8,600 on StubHub.

While he won’t be in attendance, Adesanya thought he would get in on the betting action. Posting to Twitter, the 34-year-old showed a $20,000 betting slip which would net him $24,000 profit if it won.

“WHO YOU GOT, I got side bets on this Super Bowl. But the main bet is what I come home to,” Israel Adesanya wrote.

The reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

When will Israel Adesanya return to the cage?

Following his shock loss against Sean Strickland at UFC 293, Adesanya claimed that he would take an extended time out from competition. However, ‘Stylebender’ will return sooner rather than later, posting training clips as well as targeting a fight for 2024.

“Me right now, I’m taking my time,” Adesanya said. “My last few fights, I had four fights in 14 months as a champion in the UFC. That’s unheard of. I was the most active champion, not a fighter, champion in the league. So life has forced me to take some time off and I will, but you will see me soon.

“I said 2027 and the r****** out there actually thought I meant that, but you’ll see.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

There are some very fun fights out there for Adesanya including a Strickland rematch, unfinished business with Dricus Du Plessis and with the likes of Khamzat Chimaev.

Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski spar together ahead of UFC 298 I want to see how sharp he is

Former undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya may be sidelined from the Octagon amid an unspecified injury, however, the City Kickboxing staple joined a late sparring session ahead of UFC 298 as training partner, Alexander Volkanovski prepares for his title fight return at the featherweight limit against Ilia Topuria.

Making his return to the Octagon next weekend in Anaheim, Volkanovski makes his comeback to the featherweight limit, attempting to launch another title defense in a grudge match with the unbeaten, Topuria.

Last time featuring at UFC 294 back in October at the lightweight limit, Volkanovski suffered a brutal first round high-kick and strikes KO loss to Islam Makhachev in the pair’s title fight rematch in Abu Dhabi.

And winding down training this week ahead of his trip to California ahead of next weekend’s title fight with Topuria, Volkanovski was joined at training by Nigerian-Kiwi striker, Adesanya, who has yet to receive booking since dropped his championship at UFC 293 back in September.

Linked with a title outing against newly-minted gold holder, Dricus du Plessis in his return to the Octagon, Adesanya claimed he travelled to training with Volkanovski, in order to find some inspiration and learn from the New South Wales native’s “energy”.

“[I got here] Thursday evening,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “Just a quick one. I’m meant to stay for a week, but I’m gonna stay to just see Volk (Alexander Volkanovski) there in the last – in the home stretch. “I’ve seen him there before but I wanna see him in Wollongong, in Windang, at Freestyle MMA.”

“I wanna see him in his house, on the home stretch, see where his mindset’s at, see how sharp he is, and draw energy from it,” Israel Adesanya explained. “That’s why I am here.” (H/T MMANews)

Dricus du Plessis rules out UFC 300 title fight with Israel Adesanya I'm not going to be recovered

Dricus du Plessis claims that while competing at a monumental UFC 300 card in April – the newly-minted middleweight kingpin has no interest in potentially landing a bout with Israel Adesanya as soon as the event, particularly if he’s going to be fighting potentially compromised.

du Plessis, the newly-crowned undisputed middleweight champion, headlined UFC 297 just last month in Canada, narrowly edging out then-champion, Sean Strickland in his first championship fight under the promotion’s banner, landing the undisputed title.

And immediately welcoming the option of a UFC 300 clash with arch-rival, Adesanya, South African favorite, du Plessis claimed he only issued a call out to the City Kickboxing, after receiving prior knowledge confirming the ex-champion’s ability to make the card.

However, for himself, Pretoria native, du Plessis claimed that while a spot on the massive pay-per-view card in April would be huge for him, he won’t consider fighting at UFC 300 against Adesanya if he is not fully, one hundred percent recovered from his clash with Strickland.

“I think UFC 300 is obviously going to be a milestone event,” Dricus du Plessis told Jacaranda FM during a recent interview. “I think it’s going to be great. Every time you have the UFC 100, UFC 200, and now UFC 300 – all are massive events and the pay-per-views are insane, it’s a massive hype, and I would love to be part of that.”

“But, not if it’s going to mean that I’m not going to be fully recovered,” Dricus du Plessis continued. “Defending my title is much more important to me than being on this milestone event. The real milestone event will be UFC in Africa, and more importantly, South Africa. I can’t even explain to you how long I’ll be willing to wait to make that happen and defend my belt on home soil. That’s history. UFC 300 is just a number. It’s not as massive as UFC Africa.”
