Check them out below.

UFC Copenhagen Staff Predictions

Jon Fuentes:

Your classic grappler vs. striker matchup here. Hermansson has some of the most dominant grappling in the UFC going at the moment, while Cannonier has looked great with his hands at 185 pounds. On paper, Hermansson should win this fight by taking Cannonier to the ground and controlling him for a decision win. However, I have a funny feeling Cannonier connects with a shot to end the night early. (Prediction: Jared Cannonier)

Abhinav Kini:

This is an intriguing fight involving two guys on winning streaks. However, I feel Jack Hermansson has faced better opposition in the weight class and his superior ground game will ultimately prove decisive. I’m going with “The Joker” to get it done. (Prediction: Jack Hermansson)

Brady Briggs:

This is a very compelling, yet hard to pick main event. Both of these men have flown under the radar for quite some time now, and both got some real exposure in their most recent fights. To me, Hermansson clearly has an edge on the ground, and Cannonier has an edge on the feet. It will be very interesting to see how this one goes, but I think Cannonier might shock everyone and score another knockout. (Prediction: Jared Cannonier)

Cole Shelton:

Hermansson-Cannonier is a really intriguing bout. Cannonier has the striking advantage, while Hermansson has the grappling advantage. If Hermansson can get Cannonier to the ground he could very well submit him, which I think will happen. However, don’t be surprised if Cannonier knocks Hermansson out. (Prediction: Jack Hermansson)

UFC middleweight contender Jack Hermansson believes Darren Till has put himself in a tough position by fighting Kelvin Gastelum next.

Till will make his middleweight debut when he faces Gastelum on the main card of UFC 244 which takes place November 2 in Madison Square Garden, New York. Before that bout was booked, Hermansson was looking to fight Gastelum.

Instead, he will headline UFC Copenhagen this weekend against Jared Cannonier. Still, he feels Till is in a tough spot, especially having lost his last two fights in a row:

“It’s alright, there was an opportunity for him there and I understand that he’s a big name as well, but on the other hand I think that Darren is putting himself in a tough position,” Hermansson told MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast. “He has been having a hard time and now he’s moving up a weight class and fighting one of the biggest names. Should he lose this fight there’s a big chance that he won’t be a relative as he was before.

“I’m alright with [the fight]. I know how this game works — bigger names will get bigger opportunities. I guess that’s what we’re seeing here.”

Regardless, everyone will soon figure out whether Till can be a force to be reckoned with at 185 pounds. Because for Hermansson, Gastelum is a tough matchup for the Liverpool native:

“[There had to be] at least one other guy out of the top ten [Till could have faced], right? I feel like [Gastelum is a tough matchup for Till],” Hermansson added. “Also, style-wise, I feel like Till stands with his hands open wide and Gastelum has one of the best one-twos in the game, so it’s going to be interesting. I guess we’re going to see pretty quickly if Darren has something to add to this weight class.”

Do you agree with Hermansson?

Jack Hermansson is on the cusp of a title opportunity. All he has to do is get past Jared Cannonier in Copenhagen, and he’ll solidify himself as one of the top title contenders at 185 pounds.

Hermansson vs. Cannonier headlines UFC Copenhagen on September 28 from the Royal Arena. Speaking to MMA Junkie, Hermansson explained that, with a win in Copenhagen, he wants a fight with Paulo Costa next, or he’ll hold out for a title opportunity.

“I feel like if I win this fight, it’s probably a fight against Paulo Costa or waiting that makes the most sense,” Hermansson said. “(Kelvin) Gastelum is going to fight (Darren) Till. If he wins, then that’s a fight that I could take.

“But there’s a certain limit of fights that make sense right now, so preferably I’d like to fight Costa. If he’s going to fight for the title, then I do not mind waiting a little bit because I feel like I should be next in line for the title shot.”

Costa likely won’t have to fight again before receiving a title shot. He will be in attendance for the upcoming UFC 243 title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya in Australia. The Brazilian powerhouse has already been promised the next title shot by UFC president Dana White.

Given the current situation at the top of 185 pounds, it will be interesting to see what Hermansson would do next with a win over Cannonier. He’s on a four-fight win streak and has looked very dominant during that spell.

However, he’ll face no easy task in Cannonier, a former light heavyweight contender who has been on a knockout streak since cutting down to 185 pounds. He owns early stoppages over David Branch and Anderson Silva in his first two middleweight fights. Adding a hot prospect like Hermansson to the list would only propel him into the title conversation faster than anticipated.

What do you think about Hermansson wanting Costa or a title shot next with a win over Cannonier?

Jack Hermansson Wanted A Bigger Name Than Jared Cannonier

Jack Hermansson got his wish to headline UFC Copenhagen, but he did not get his wish of the opponent. He wanted to face Kelvin Gastelum, but instead, will take on Jared Cannonier who is 2-0 at middleweight.

Although he gets to headline right near where he lives, Hermansson says many fans are wondering why he took this fight as there is nothing to gain for him.

“Yes [I was looking for a bigger opponent] for sure,” Hermansson told MMA Fighting’s Eurobashpodcast.

“At the end of the day, I wanted to stay active and I wanted to headline this card. When they couldn’t get me Gastelum and I knew that Romero was fighting Costa, I was just kind of like, ‘Who is the next one?’ [UFC] told me that I would get Cannonier,” he explained.

“He’s a dangerous opponent. A lot of people, especially the fans, are asking me why I’m doing this. Instead of just being like, ‘Yes, this is great! We’re going to have you in Copenhagen,’ instead they’re saying, ‘You shouldn’t take this fight!’”

However, Jack Hermansson knows just how good he is and knows he will eventually have to beat everyone. So, he said accepting this fight was no problem.

“We’re definitely in different positions, but I want to show people that I am the best and I can beat anyone; he shouldn’t beat me. If I feel like I’m the best in the world, I’ve got to show people that I can take care of business. Then I think it’s my turn again to get a big [fight].”

Add in the fact that he gets to headline another UFC event, and show off his skills in front of the Scandanavian audience, and is eager for that. He knows this is a big showing for him, and should he win here, he could very well be getting a title shot next.

“I don’t like to turn down fights and also, the UFC need a main event there. As I’ve said before, I want to be that guy in Scandinavia that has that place. Also, I think it’s beneficial for me to get another main event to build my name and get even more recognition worldwide from UFC fans. I think that’s important for the UFC – before they throw me into a title fight I think they want to be able to put me in a big fight that allows me to continue to build my name.”
