Jairzinho Rozenstruik is his own biggest critic following his loss to Ciryl Gane Saturday at UFC Vegas 20. At UFC Vegas 20, Jairzinho Rozenstruik lost a one-sided unanimous decision to Ciryl Gane in the night’s main event. Gane was able to pick Rozenstruik at times and control him in the clinch during other intervals. For […]

In a largely tentative and tepid UFC Vegas 20 headliner, French standout, Ciryl Gane took home a one-sided unanimous decision win over a lacklustre, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and off the back of his first promotional headliner, Gane plans to make a title run in the ever-evolving heavyweight division.
Utilising his almost unrivalled movement and distance management at the weight class, Gane took a straight forward 50-45 unanimous decision win on all three judge’s scorecards. And come the release of the official rankings over the course of next week, the Ferland Lopez and MMA Factory staple is likely to claim the faltering, Rozenstruik’s #4 rank at heavyweight.
Finding his way in the clinch on occasion, Gane dominated largely on the feet, as Rozenstruik failed to ever get his feet moving in a positive, forward pressing motion — as he looked to counter as usual off his back foot. Pot shotting the Suriname kickboxer on cue, Gane found his target with both oblique and stiff calf kicks, as well as a whipping jab from his southpaw right to comfortably outpoint the now 11-2 striker.
Following on the heels of Derrick Lewis’ stunning knockout win over Curtis Blaydes last weekend at UFC Vegas 19, Gane spoke with press assembled following last night’s win — detailing how he’s “legit” and how he plans to make a siege to the heavyweight title next.
“I’m legit,” Gane said. “I’m undefeated and I’m the only one undefeated in this division in the rankings. I think I’m legit. I want to say it to everybody: In the next months, if you have a place, if someone has an injury, I’m here. I’m here, man.“
Taking relatively no substantial damage against Rozenstruik, Gane had claimed that he would be open to filling in on short notice for either Stipe Miocic, or former teammate Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 at the end of March in a title clash. If his services aren’t required on short-notice, however, Gane still has championship aspirations in the not too distant future.
“I talked with my coach (Fernand Lopez) and he said if I win this weekend, I’m going to go after the belt,” Gane said. “It doesn’t matter who or how — we’re going to go after the belt now.“
With the win, Gane improved to 5-0 in the UFC, notching previous victories over Raphael Pessoa, Don’Tale Mayes, Tanner Boser, and Junior dos Santos.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik has spoken out for the first time since losing to Ciryl Gane over five rounds in the UFC Vegas 20 main event.
‘Bigi Boy’ was disappointing on the night. The heavyweight puncher refused to engage for pretty much five full rounds.
Ciryl Gane was not much better. The Frenchman poked and prodded at Rozenstruik to earn a decision win but failed to impress fans or UFC boss Dana White who seemed disappointed post-fight.
“Everybody’s talking about Ciryl being this big contender, but look at what Francis Ngannou did to Jairzinho,” White wrote to Kevin Iole. “This was his coming out party and his chance to show the world who he is. He won, but let’s leave it at that. He won.”
Rozenstruik took social media to react to his defeat at UFC Vegas 20. The Surinamese fighter acknowledged he had just put on the “worst performance” of his career and vowed to do work before his next bout.
“Fans, family, and friends, I just fought and the fight didn’t go my way,” Rozenstruik said. “I think it’s my worst performance ever if you ask me… So this is me explaining myself, I think I owe you guys this.
“I’m gonna go back home and work my ass out for my next fight. Don’t know when that’s gonna be. Respect to Ciryl, he win the fight, and he’s a professional fighter. This is what I can say.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
This is the second defeat of Rozenstruik’s professional MMA career.
The 32-year-old was previously knocked out by heavyweight title challenger Francis Ngannou.
Gane improves his undefeated record to 8-0. He will likely enter the top five of the UFC heavyweight rankings next week.
Gane has other notable wins over the likes of Junior dos Santos and Tanner Boser.
Do you agree with Jairzinho Rozenstruik? Did he put on the worst performance of his career at UFC Vegas 20?

In a Tweet Jones suggested they get used to pushing the pace in anticipation for his debut into the division later in 2021.
“These boys better get used to pushing the pace, all this standing around ain’t gonna fly when daddy comes home. #UFCVegas20”
This statement caught the attention of another Heavyweight in the form of upcoming title challenger Francis Ngannou who responded by mocking Jones’s comment.
In the main event at UFC Vegas 20, Ciryl Gane secured himself a shutout decision victory over the incredibly dangerous Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a fight that many felt was uneventful.
Following the fight, there are questions of what is next for the winner Gane, who has a connected past to the upcoming title challenger as they were former training partners. Also, fresh off his knockout victory at UFC Vegas 19, heavy hitter Derrick Lewis is also knocking on the door of the elusive heavyweight title shot himself.
While this win puts Gane in the top five of the division and on the shortlist of title contenders, the Heavyweight title is set to be decided in March when Stipe Miocic rematches Ngannou, however, the fate of the belt holder following this is already decided as UFC President Dana White has shared in the past that upon his debut Jones will get an immediate title shot.
Whether it be Stipe of Ngannou holding the title at the time this will be the fan’s first look at how Jones can perform at Heavyweight and if he is capable of dominating the division as he has done in the Light-Heavyweight division.
How do you see Jones performing when he finally debuts in the Heavyweight division later this year?

Still undefeated. Improving to 8-0 — Ciryl ‘Bon Gamin’ Gane scores his fifth promotional victory, taking home a dominant unanimous judging win over monstrous striker, Jairzinho ‘Bigi Boy’ Rozenstruik.
A lot of feints and pops from the shoulders of Ciryl Gane to get the first round started, before he fires off a lightening fast southpaw jab — grabbing Rozenstruik’s attention, who as usual, looked to play counter. Decent left hand for Rozenstruik lands after he briefly catches a body kick attempt from Gane. Faking another body kick, Gane launched a solid straight right hand before closing the distance and clinching. Takedown secured for Gane, however, Rozenstruik retains his full guard before closure of the opening round. 10-9 Gane.
Patience opening to the second again from Gane while Rozenstruik continues to attempt to fire off counter shots. Rozenstruik then rushes forward with Gane level changing, circling and putting the Suriname native back on the fence before almost scoring a stunning outside trip takedown. Another 10-9 for Gane. Rozenstruik yet to find his mark with any substancial counters.
A tad more lively midway through the third with both Rozenstruik and Gane trading for a moment in the middle of the Octagon. Gane working well from his southpaw right side, bouncing well on the balls of his feet and mixing up his strikes. 10-9 again for Gane who is utilizing his movement well to evade some counters from Rozenstruik, although, they are coming few and far between.
Jump knee to the body for Gane finds it’s target on the right hand side of Rozenstruik’s midsection — with the latter still yet to get out of the starting blocks at all really here in the fourth. Another knee entry from Gane catches Rozenstruik just above the cup it seems, however, we get a brief stoppage in the action. Another 10-9 for Gane who scores a decent check left hook at the fence before the klaxon. Rozenstruik in need of a finish here.
Briefly taking Rozenstruik’s back in a less than eventful round, Gane took the final round with another 10-9 — scoring a dominant 50-45 unanimous decision victory.
Below, check out the highlights from Gane’s striking masterclass win over Rozenstruik.
