Ex-UFC champion Jamahal Hill was arrested in Michigan for domestic violence earlier this week.

Per a report from TMZ, Hill was booked at a Kent County jail in the early morning hours of Monday and was released at 7:35 p.m. later that evening. That same day, prosecutors formally charged the MMA star with one count of misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence.

According to court documents obtained by the publication, Hill assaulted James Anthony Hill Jr., inflicting “serious or aggravated injury upon him.” It was later revealed that the alleged victim was the brother of Jamahal Hill and “a resident or former resident” of the light heavyweight contender.

Further details surrounding the incident were not made immediately available. Hill is due in court in January for a hearing.

Jamahal Hill’s Manager Releases Statement

Hill’s manager through Sucker Punch Entertainment, Brian Butler-Au, released a statement regarding his client’s arrest on social media, calling the reports nothing more than “clickbait.”

“The recent “click bait” headlines about @JamahalH were based on an alleged dispute between him and his older brother,” Butler-Au wrote. “Jamahal adamantly maintains his innocence and denies the false accusations. We will not be commenting anymore about this until the truth comes out in court.”

Hill captured the 205-pound title in January following a five-round war with former champion Glover Teixeira. ‘Sweet Dreams’ was forced to vacate the title before he ever defended it after he suffered a ruptured Achilles during a charity basketball game over the summer.

No timeline has been revealed for Hill’s return to the Octagon, but he is expected to face newly crowned light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira once medically cleared.

Jamahal Hill has dubbed himself the best boxer in the UFC.

2023 looked to be a breakout year for ‘Sweet Dreams’ after he claimed the light heavyweight title in a short-notice opportunity against former champion Glover Teixeira at UFC 283. Everything was going according to plan as Jamahal Hill anxiously awaited his next opponent, Jiri Prochazka, to heal up from a shoulder injury so the pair could handle some business inside the Octagon. Then disaster struck.

Hill ruptured his Achilles this past July while participating in a charity basketball game alongside other UFC stars, which would force him to relinquish his light heavyweight championship.

Since then, Jamahal Hill has remained active, engaging in interviews and offering his unique insight on combat sports via his YouTube channel. During a recent interview with The Schmo, Hill was asked who he considers to be the best boxers in the UFC right now. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hill placed himself at the top before rounding out his list.

“My top five boxers in the UFC right now? I’d have to say myself at one, I’d probably say Dustin Poirier at two,” Hill said. “Probably [Sergei] Pavlovich. I’ll probably set him at four, I’ll put Sean Strickland at three. I’ll put Pavlovich at four and then, no … damn I’m going to have to move Pavlovich down again, and I’ll have to move Sean down. Three I’d put Max Holloway, then Sean, then Pavlovich” (h/t MMA News).

Boxing has become a hot topic over the last few weeks courtesy of Francis Ngannou’s shocking performance against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in Riyadh.

Jamahal Hill Shares his prediction for the UFC 295 title fight between Prochazka and Pereira

With no timeline for Jamahal Hill’s return in place, the light heavyweight division will move on with a new champion being crowned in the UFC 295 headliner on November 11. Former 205-pound champ Jiri Prochazka will return to the main event spotlight in hopes of reclaiming the title he never lost. Standing in his way will be former middleweight titleholder Alex Pereira, who will be competing in the division for just the second time.

“I don’t know if it ends with a knockout, but I see a way where both men could land and end it with a knockout,” Hill said of the highly anticipated title tilt. “I think the knockout is more probable for Pereira. I think if Prochazka wants to end it within the distance it will probably be submission.”

Hill expects to return in 2024 and plans to challenge the winner of Prochazka and Pereira.

Former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill has offered up a potential timeline for his return to the Octagon.

Six months after capturing the 205-pound title following a dominant performance against Glover Teixeira in January, Jamahal Hill was forced to vacate the strap after suffering a ruptured Achilles, an injury that could keep him on the shelf for a year, if not longer.

As a result, former world champions Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will meet in the UFC 295 co-main event on November 11 with the winner emerging as the newly crowned light heavyweight king. Hill already knows that he will walk directly into a title opportunity once cleared to return, but the question is, when could that be?

Speaking with James Lynch in a LowKick MMA exclusive interview, Jamahal Hill revealed that he’s not focused on returning by a specific date or event. Instead, ‘Sweet Dreams’ is putting everything into his recovery to ensure that when he does come back, he’ll be 100% healed and ready to reclaim the title he never lost.

My understanding is just to focus on recovery. Not putting a timeline on it,” Hill said. “Just working to see where we are.”

Jamahal Hill Hasn’t Ruled out a potential return at uFC 300

Asked if he has considered a potential return at UFC 300, slated to go down in or around April 2024, ‘Sweet Dreams’ confirmed that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

I haven’t ruled it out, but right now we’re just seeing… We’re going through the recovery and we’re gonna see.” He also confirmed that, thus far, there have been no setbacks in the recovery process. “There haven’t been any setbacks. Things have been going well. I have a really good doctor. I have a really good team that’s working on me to make sure I get back to where I need to be.”

Making his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2017, Jamahal Hill amassed a 5-0 record before earning his UFC contract on a 2019 episode of Dana White’s Contender Series with a second-round knockout of Alexander Poppeck. Since then, ‘Sweet Dreams’ has added another six wins to his record, including his world-title-winning performance against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.

Hill recently confirmed that he will be at UFC 295 next month to witness the crowning of a new light heavyweight champion. Could we see ‘Sweet Dreams’ step into the Octagon for a face-off with the winner? We’ll find out on November 11.

When Jamahal Hill makes his return to the Octagon, he’ll get a crack at whoever holds the light heavyweight title at the time.

That bit of news comes according to the man himself who recently spoke with James Lynch in a LowKick MMA exclusive interview.

“Whoever has the belt when I recover, wherever, whenever we’re good to go, that’s who I’ll fight,” Hill said.

Seven months after besting Glover Teixeira to capture the 205-pound crown in January, Jamahala Hill was forced to vacate the title after rupturing his Achilles. The devastating injury could keep ‘Sweet Dreams’ on the shelf for upwards of a year, leading the promotion to book a light heavyweight showdown at UFC 295 between former champion Jiri Prochazka and ex-middleweight king Alex Pereira. The winner would then face Jamahal Hill upon his highly anticipated return.

Asked about a potential timeline for his return to the Octagon, Jamahal Hill said:

My understanding is just to focus on recovery. Not putting a timeline on it. Just working to see where we are.”

Despite UFC 300 being a short six months away, Hill hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making his triumphant return at the landmark event to challenge for the light heavyweight title. “I haven’t ruled it out, but right now we’re just seeing… We’re going through the recovery and we’re gonna see.”

He added, “There haven’t been any setbacks. Things have been going well. I have a really good doctor. I have a really good team that’s working on me to make sure I get back to where I need to be.”

‘Sweet Dream’ currently sits at 6-1 inside the Octagon, his lone loss coming against Paul Craig in 2021 after suffering an arm injury in the opening round. Since then, Hill has scored four straight, including his title-winning performance against the recently retired Glover Teixeira.
