Ji?í Procházka doesn’t appear to be in the mood to entertain Jamahal Hill’s attempts at getting under his skin ahead of their upcoming bout.

Procházka is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown with Hill at UFC 311, scheduled for Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Both Procházka and Hill are coming off devastating knockout defeats at the hands of reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira in their last Octagon appearances. Since their bout was booked, “Sweet Dreams” has made some bold comments about the Czech fighter’s style. Hill went so far as to compare their losses to Pereira, claiming that while he was caught accidentally at UFC 300, Procházka was “done bad” at UFC 303.

During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, “Denisa” mentioned that he’s aware of Hill badmouthing him but has no intention of responding in kind to the American’s antics.

“I don’t care what he’s saying because it’s not just primarily about me, it just shows what what is in his head,” Procházka said. “Man, I don’t care about what other people say about me because when you know how this works, how to work the mental of the human body, so how people can speak about others and why they speak about others, especially when he don’t know me personally. He knows just my fighting style and in that, he’s totally out with his commentary.”

Procházka went on to explain why he chooses not to engage in trash talk, stressing that he’s more than willing to settle the score with Hill once the Octagon gates closes.

“So that’s why I don’t care about these trash talks because. Do you know how the true confident man, a real man [looks] like? He don’t know. He don’t need to say some sh*t about others, to speak about his strong sides and about the weaknesses in his opponent because he’s self-confident too much to not do that… I’m going there, I will show my best, and I will show that to all the world that I’m the best, and that’s all. My actions will talk.”

Prior to his latest defeat to Pereira in a short-notice title fight this past June, Procházka secured a second-round finish over Aleksandar Raki? at UFC 300.

Meanwhile, Hill’s loss to “Poatan” marked his return to the Octagon after a memorable title win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in January 2023. “Sweet Dreams” was forced to vacate his title in July 2023 due to an injury.

At UFC 300, Alex Pereira seemed to produce the definitive statement in his short-lived rivalry with Jamahal Hill after stopping the former light heavyweight champion in the first round and taunting him immediately after. “Sweet Dreams” unsurprisingly didn’t take to this too kindly and with his Octagon return taking place next month at UFC 311, Hill is going to want to run that fight back if he gets his hand raised against Ji?í Procházka in California.

It appeared that the two men nearly came to blows during a recent confrontation between them at the UFC PI in Las Vegas during fight week for UFC 310 this month. A video posted on social media showed that Hill approached “Poatan” who was getting some work in with his close team before they started trading words.

Pereira even threw a pair of gloves at Hill at one point in the video and though nothing physical happened between them, it could have been a different story if the champion’s coach, Plinio Cruz, wasn’t there to diffuse the situation and tell his fighter to back up. Hill, however, doesn’t believe that it was a big deal in hindsight.

Whilst he was quite casually walking over to his former opponent, it seemed from his reaction that Pereira did not appreciate Hill’s conduct or comments in the moment. The champion made it pretty clear that if Hill wanted to, they could go a couple rounds right then and there.

He spoke in a recent interview with James Lynch for Bodog Canada where he tried to tell his version of events. Hill said that there was a bit of a breakdown in terms of the communication of what was being said back and forth after Cruz stopped relaying the messages back and forth. Despite this, Hill looks back at the exchange as a positive without it being anything too significant.

”After he [Pereira] said that last part he [translator] kind of stopped translating to me, he kind of stopped translating what he was saying to me. The situation ain’t even that serious bro, it’s a fun interaction, I mean seeing that competitive fire is there, he’s down to go, I’m ready to step up and fight him…as ready to go, to step up and fight.”

Jamahal Hill, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, is facing a legal battle after his arrest in November 2023 on charges of domestic violence. The incident reportedly stemmed from an altercation with Hill’s brother over a personal dispute, but Hill is now sharing his side of the story.

Jamahal Hill, who made history in January 2023 by claiming the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight title before being forced to vacate it later that year due to injury, details the events that led to the police involvement. According to Hill, tensions escalated after his brother swung at him during an argument in his home.

“I was getting ready to meet up with friends, had some plans for the night,” Hill recalls. “Next thing I know, my entire block is lit up with 10 or 12 police cars, and they’re telling me I was under arrest for domestic violence.”

The altercation began when Hill’s brother, whom Hill claims he was trying to help, became increasingly aggressive. “He took a swing at me. I rolled, slipped, and grabbed him in a clinch. He stumbled back into the kitchen, and I was furious,” Hill said. “I told him, ‘Get the hell out of my house.’”

Hill explains that the situation escalated further when his brother’s girlfriend intervened, inadvertently leading to more conflict. “She pushed me, and that’s when my brother swung again—but this time, he hit my kid’s mom in the head,” Hill said. “I reacted and jabbed him in the face.”

What followed, according to Hill, was a heated exchange with his brother, who allegedly threatened him with a gun. “He started saying, ‘If my niece and nephews weren’t here, I’d kill you,’” Hill recalls. “That’s when I told him to leave, and he went to sit in his truck for two and a half hours.”

Hill states that after some time had passed, he approached his brother in an effort to mend the situation. “I apologized to him. I didn’t want any of this to happen,” Hill said. “I offered him an apology, even though he was the one who punched my kid’s mom in the head and didn’t apologize to her.”

However, Jamahal Hill’s attempts to resolve the situation took a turn when his brother reportedly began sending text messages demanding money and threatening to go public with the incident. “He was sending me pictures and saying things like, ‘You get fair fights for a living, and now you’ve sucker-punched me,’” Hill said. “This wasn’t about justice. This was about money.”

The controversy has left Jamahal Hill feeling betrayed, particularly after trying to help his brother through personal struggles. “I tried to help him out, but he had resentment toward me,” Hill said. “I didn’t know my success in the UFC would make him feel this way.”

As the legal proceedings continue, Jamahal Hill is hopeful that the truth will come to light. “I would never want to hurt anyone in my family, especially my brother,” Hill said. “This was about helping him, and it just blew up in my face.”

For now, Hill is focused on clearing his name, but he remains disheartened by the fallout. “It sucks that it came to this, but I’m ready for everything to come out in court,” Hill concluded. “I just want to move forward.”

December 5 was a busy day for the UFC’s light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in the fight capital of the world. “Poatan” was in attendance for the 16th annual World MMA Awards where he picked up the Fighter of the Year Award for the four wins that he achieved in the space of one calendar year.

Before the ceremony got underway, a training session of his at the UFC Performance Institute nearly ended in him and his former opponent, Jamahal Hill, coming to blows. A video of the interaction was posted by Full Send MMA, showing Hill walking over to Pereira and his coach, Plinio Cruz.

After the two men start talking, the Brazilian throws a pair of gloves towards Hill, seemingly beckoning him to engage in a rematch of their meeting at UFC 300 in April which Pereira won via a knockout in the first round. With Cruz doing his best to diffuse the situation, the two men never actually touch each other but it was clear from the video that the 205-pound champion wasn’t going to back down.

“Poatan” and “Sweet Dreams” have had a rocky relationship both before and after their main event clash in Las Vegas. The way that Hill acted on fight week clearly bothered the current titleholder as after stopping the former champion, he taunted him with an instantly iconic post-fight celebration.

Hill’s complaints about referee Herb Dean’s calls in that fight have only prolonged the feud between them and with him returning at UFC 311 to face Ji?í Procházka in Los Angeles, we may see the two men meet again inside the Octagon in the near future.

Pereira himself posted the video of their exchange on X, adding a four-word caption which when translated from Portuguese to English, comes out as “the atmosphere became tense”.

The animosity between former UFC opponents Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill threatened to boil over this week.

Pereira, the reigning light heavyweight champion, and former titleholder Hill met inside the cage at UFC 300 this past April, headlining the pay-per-view with “Poatan’s” gold on the line. The American’s plan to regain the belt was quickly foiled when he fell victim to the Brazilian’s renowned left hook inside the very first round.

Since then, “Sweet Dreams” has attracted plenty of criticism from the MMA community for his reaction to defeat. Hill has continuously blamed Herb Dean’s brief intervention after Pereira was struck low, despite subsequently touching gloves with the champ to resume the fight and throwing a strike at the same time as the shot that floored him.

Those remarks have been joined by claims that Pereira ‘fears’ running it back with the #3-ranked contender. Unsurprisingly, “Poatan” didn’t look scared when Hill confronted him at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas on Thursday.

A video released by Full Send MMA shows Hill approaching his ex-opponent before stating, “Not on Twitter now,” as Pereira went for a respectful fist bump.

At that point, “Poatan” switched his attitude toward “Sweet Dreams,” throwing a pair of gloves and inviting him to spar. Hill did not take up the offer.

Before the possibility of the pair sharing the Octagon once again becomes a reality, they’ll both seemingly have other work to do in the new year.

For Hill, a fight date is officially in the calendar. He’ll meet a fellow former champ in Ji?í Procházka at the first PPV of 2025, UFC 311 at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome on Jan. 19.

Pereira, meanwhile, is without a date for his fourth title defense. He is, however, expected to next face the challenge of Magomed Ankalaev.
