Anthony Smith Jan Blachowicz

It’s been just hours since Jan Blachowicz lost the UFC light heavyweight title to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267, and it appears he already may have a willing opponent in Anthony Smith.

Smith was originally slated to face Aleksandar Rakic on Dec. 18 in a light heavyweight rematch but recently withdrew from the fight due to a staph infection. But now, Smith alleges that the UFC has offered him to return against Blachowicz at a later date, though it’s unclear whether or not the offer was officially accepted.

Blachowicz, shortly after losing the belt to Teixeira, discussed an initial targeted return in March. According to Smith, this would work perfectly for his path to the title and is a matchup he’s eager to take on.

Anthony Smith Says He’s Been Offered A Jan Blachowicz Fight After UFC 267

“I’m kind of liking this Jan Blachowicz fight,” Smith said during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. They brought it to me that night. He wants to fight again, he wants to fight soon. I’m not crazy injured, I’m just dealing with little stuff and an infection. As long as we can get the infection cleared, I don’t think February is out of the question.”

“I love that fight, and I like that guy,” Smith continued. “I want the Rakic fight, I want that back but I don’t think he wants to wait so if he wants to go in and fight someone else that is fine. I like the Jan Blachowicz fight.”

A Smith vs. Blachowicz fight could make a lot of sense for the title picture in the light heavyweight division as well. Teixeira is widely expected to make his first title defense against Jiri Prochazka, who was the alternate for UFC 267. Smith and Blachowicz are both looking to earn another shot at UFC gold.

Jan Blachowicz isn’t wasting much time thinking about what’s next for his career after losing to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

In arguably one of the biggest upsets of 2021, the 42-year-old Teixeira finally broke through during his legendary career to submit Blachowicz in the second round and earn the UFC light heavyweight title. He became the oldest first-time UFC champion in modern history.

Blachowicz seemed to take the loss in stride during his Octagon interview with Daniel Cormier, and that carried over to the post-fight press conference. Speaking with reporters following the defeat, Blachowicz explained what he feels went wrong for him at UFC 267.

Jan Blachowicz Vows To Return After Stunning Loss

“It wasn’t me. I don’t want to explain myself,” Blachowicz said. It is what it is. But it’s not over. I am not a quitter. I will not go anywhere I will come back. I need to rest, think a little bit.”

“I am not a coward. I will not quit,” Blachowicz continued. “And you’re gonna see me in the Octagon again.”

Blachowicz went on to tease a potential return to fighting in March of next year, against another top contender in the light heavyweight division. As for Teixeira, he’ll more than likely face Jiri Prochazka for his first title defense at a later date.

He also issued the following statement on Instagram following the loss:

“Today I left the legendary polish power in the hotel room. Congrats to Glover, who won fair and square, well deserved. Remember that the last pages of my story are still unwritten. Thank you for all the support.”

Blachowicz earned the vacant title over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, before successfully defending the belt against Israel Adesanya earlier this year. Leading up to his loss to Teixeira, he had won five fights in a row in a career resurgence.

The light heavyweight division is deep with talent, and Blachowicz may have to work his way back to another title shot with a couple of wins. But, Blachowicz sounds optimistic about his chances of eventually earning UFC gold once again.

Jan Blachowicz suffered what must go down as a huge upset loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

The now-former UFC light-heavyweight champion was fancied to defend his 205lb strap at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi but never looked like doing so against Teixeira who appeared several steps ahead throughout the two-round fight. The 42-year-old found a rear-naked-choke submission in the second round to become the oldest first-time UFC champion in history.

Jan Blachowicz Disappionted With The Defeat & His Performance

Blachowicz was understandably disappointed with the result and his performance when he spoke with the media at the UFC 267 post-fight press conference.

“Everything goes wrong with me. I think I leave legendary Polish power in hotel room,” Blachowicz joked. “I don’t know (what happened). I just wasn’t champion today. He was. He is.”

The 38-year-old couldn’t put his finger on exactly what went wrong for him at UFC 267 and had the following to say when asked if it was more of a mental issue.

“I don’t know. I need time to think about it. But for sure something was bad,” Blachowicz said. “It wasn’t me. I don’t want to explain myself, he beat me. Everybody see that, so it is what it is. It’s not like it is over. I am not a quitter. I will come back for sure. I need to rest, for sure take a little bit (of time off). But for sure I will come back. I am not a quitter and not a coward. I will not quit.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

The loss to Teixeira snaps the impressive five-fight win streak Blachowicz had put together by beating the likes of Luke Rockhold, Dominick Reyes, and Israel Adesanya. Meanwhile, Teixeira continues his career resurgence with a sixth successive win and can now look forward to some lucrative fights as the light-heavyweight champion.

Jon Jones has rubbed salt into the wounds of Jan Blachowicz following his title loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

After almost 20 years as a professional mixed martial artist, Teixeira on Saturday finally captured the UFC belt that had eluded him for so long. The 42-year-old dominated Blachowicz, taking him to the ground with ease and finishing the fight with a rear-naked choke in round two. Teixeira, who lost to Jones in their 2014 title bout, is now the oldest UFC light heavyweight in history.

For Blachowicz, the loss ends his five-fight win-streak, which included victories over Corey Anderson, Dominick Reyes, and Israel Adesanya—the latter being his first and only title defense. The 38-year-old became the king of the 205-pound division last year after a devastating KO victory over Reyes—a matchup which resulted from Jones’ vacation of his long-held title.

Jon Jones Slams Blachowicz For “Talking Shit”

Prior to vacating his title, Jones had flirted with the idea of fighting Blachowicz, and the duo seemed to have had a good-natured rivalry. But comments made by Blachowicz after Jones’ recent arrest—which the Pole predicted likely won’t be his last—seems to have ruffled the feathers of the former pound-for-pound king.

Only days ago did Jones make his return to Twitter, following a spell on the sidelines thanks to his recent legal imbroglio. And after Blachowicz’s loss on Saturday night, the widely-regarded MMA GOAT quickly took to the platform to slam his former rival.

“See what happens when you’re talking shit, not focusing on the opponent right in front of you. Another one bites the dust,” tweeted Jones.

Since his last UFC fight in March 2020, Jones’ interactions with fans have largely been restricted to his social media platforms. Prior to his recent brush with the law, the 34-year-old seemed to have been on track to make his heavyweight debut next year, eyeing a potential superfight with Francis Ngannou. While he continues his transition to becoming a heavyweight, it remains unclear if “Bones” will return to the Octagon any time soon.

What do you think? Will we ever see Jon Jones make his UFC heavyweight debut?
