It looks like Jon Jones is taking a stand.

After going back-and-forth with UFC president Dana White over recent pay allegations, Jones has seemingly had enough. Having already hinted at taking time off from the sport, the light heavyweight champion announced Sunday that he would be vacating his title.

In addition, he announced a light heavyweight title fight between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz — both of whom were contenders to face him next. He also told the promotion to call him when they’re ready to pay him his worth.

“ESPN Reyes vs Jan For the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world. As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them. Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then.

“Bones out, when you see me in the streets just call me JJ ??

“To the light heavyweight title Veni, vidi, vici”

When a fan responded that Jones was hurting himself more than anyone with this decision, he felt otherwise.

“I hurt myself every time I walk out there and take a punch to the head and Not feel my pay is worth it anymore.”

Jones was recently campaigning for a super fight with Francis Ngannou. However, he claims he was shut down by the UFC when he asked for a pay increase before he could even come up with a figure.

White, on the other hand, has claimed Jones did mention a figure and was asking for Deontay Wilder money. Since then, the pair have stated conflicting versions of the truth.

What do you make of Jones’ tweets? Do you think he’s really leaving the sport?

Top UFC Light-Heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz has taken to twitter issuing a warning to champion Jon Jones.

“First you try to hide in jail, then you want to change a weightclass. You are really doing everything you can to avoid your destiny but there is no place to hide Jonny. Here’s Jan #LegendaryPolishPower

This comes shortly after the UFC failed to come to an agreement with Jones to face Heavyweight knockout artist Francis Ngannou. the two had been going back and forth over social media sharing there mutual desire to face one another however Jones believed it would have to be for the right price in order to see him make the move up in weight. Ultimately the UFC seems to have rejected this idea with Jones claiming on twitter the UFC fails to see his value, also in the same tweet sharing his plans to face Jan next.

“I’ve had some time to think about it and Im a lot less emotional. Just sad that the ufc doesn’t see my value against the scariest HW in the world. Jan I guess you’re next in line #badbusiness #shocked

Blachowicz is coming off a first round knockout victory of Corey Anderson in February. Jones was in attendance at this event and the two shared words from the cage after the fight.

Jones recently defending his title against previously undefeated fighter Dominick Reyes just weeks prior by decision that many saw going the other way. Due to the decision being so close Reyes called for a rematch against the champion however, Jones does not seem interested setting his sights on Jan.

Nothing has been officially announced yet in regards to a date or place for the two to face off, however, due to the current corona virus it could be some time until we see them square off in the octagon.

Dominick Reyes Open To Interim Title Fight With Jan Blachowicz But Wants Jon Jones Rematch

Reyes Blachowicz

Dominick Reyes is more than willing to fight Jan Blachowicz next. However, his priority remains a rematch with Jon Jones.

Reyes pushed Jones to the limit in their light heavyweight title fight at UFC 247 back in February with many believing he had done enough to earn the victory. In the end, Jones earned the unanimous decision nod with calls for an immediate rematch since.

However, another contender has emerged in Blachowicz, who after knocking Corey Anderson out a week after UFC 247, confronted Jones who was in attendance. “Bones” also seems receptive to facing the Polish knockout artist next.

At this point, it’s hard to say who will get the next title shot. Nobody would complain if Reyes earned another opportunity, but at the same time, it’s hard to deny Blachowicz who has won seven of his last eight outings.

Reyes wouldn’t mind facing Blachowicz for an interim title either. But given that there were already talks of a rematch with Jones before the COVID-19 situation escalated, he is confident he will get a second crack.

“I think he’s a fantastic fighter,” Reyes told MMA Fighting of Blachowicz in a recent interview. “I think he’s one of the most technical guys in the division. I think he has some really good power. I think he’s just a technical beast and he has a lot of experience to where he’s wise with his technical ability. I’ve been wanting to fight Jan since I beat Jared Cannonier.

“I don’t know if you guys know or remember, I called him out right after the fight. This is a guy I’ve been wanting to fight for a minute, so if there’s an interim then yeah, hell yeah, let’s do it. But I think we’re gonna get that rematch first.”

If it is Blachowicz who gets Jones next, Reyes will either have to wait for the winner of that fight or face another contender in the meantime. And given the new names in the division, “The Devastator” is more than willing to remain active in what he believes is an exciting weight class again.

“I freakin’ love it,” Reyes added of the state of the light heavyweight division. “When I first got in the UFC, I was just always talking about trying to revive the division, being the new face of 205. We’ve got guys coming up, but I’m just the leader of the class. And that’s exactly what’s happening. The division is gonna be exciting as long as I’m in the division. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. There’s a lot of great matchups out there for me. The list is so long now, it’s so exciting. I’ll just throw out a couple of names of guys that I respect in the division that I think I’ll fight in the future.

“So we’ve got Aleksander Rakic, we’ve got [Ion] Cutelaba, we’ve got [Jiri Prochazka], but we’ve got to see how how he fights. Corey Anderson, Johnny Walker, Jan, Thiago, this is gonna be great. This is gonna be a fun next seven or eight years.”

Blachowicz

UFC light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz may have received the green light to face Jon Jones next, but used awkward phrasing when responding to the champion.

When it comes to Jones’ next title defense, it is mainly down to two options — a rematch with Dominick Reyes after the pair battled in a close 25-minute war back at UFC 247 in February or a new challenge in Blachowicz.

Blachowicz has won seven of his last eight outings and is coming off an impressive first-round knockout victory over Corey Anderson. And luckily for him, “Bones” seems receptive to the idea of facing him next as he was responding to recent comments from Reyes.

“Now suddenly I’m afraid of a good dogfight? Pretty sure I walked him down for 25 minutes straight when we fought,” Jones said of Reyes. “One thing about being the champion of the world, you got to search for fresh meat on every soil. I’m feeling like popping some cherries in Poland, haven’t had that yet.”

That undoubtedly serves as good news for Blachowicz. However, he could have used a different word when responding to Jones’ tweet.

“So, it’s a date. Can’t wait to fist you. ?

It was a harmless mistake from Blachowicz and it should be interesting to see how Jones responds to the gaffe.

Regardless, it looks like Jones vs. Blachowicz could be the next fight to take place in the light heavyweight title picture.
