Valentina Shevchenko fires back at her next challenger over some comments that she made. Shevchenko is scheduled to make the first defense of the UFC flyweight title against Jessica Eye at the UFC 238 pay-per-view event.

Shevchenko is fresh off a decision win over Joanna Jedrzejczyk to earn win the UFC women’s flyweight title in the UFC 231 co-headliner. This event went down Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Eye’s criticism all started when she stated that she believes one of Shevchenko’s biggest weaknesses is an inability to adjust her gameplan depending on the style of opponent she’s facing.

While speaking with the media, Shevchenko made it known that she isn’t impressed with Eye’s assessment.

“I think she [doesn’t] know what she’s speaking about,” Shevchenko told MMAFighting. “Because it’s like, not make sense. To lack [the ability to] adjust? It [doesn’t] make sense at all. That you have so much technique in your arsenal, you have so much everything [in your arsenal that you can] choose the weapon, what you’re going to use against your opponent — this is what I see. This is, in my mind, the adjustments. That you are not just adjusting because you don’t have the opportunity to do something else. No, you’re just choosing the right weapon against your opponent. And this is what, every time, I am doing.

“If I need to go hard, I can go hard. If I need to wait a little bit, I will wait. If I have to go striking, I will go to strike. If I have to go down, I will go down. So this is my version of adjustments. I have a lot of techniques. I have a lot of everything, to choose what I will [use to] play against you. And this is more dangerous, I can say. You never know what you will face. So this is the thing, what I can explain is an adjustment. But listening to her quote, I really understand she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Maybe she’s saying words, but she doesn’t know what exactly this means.”

The UFC 238 pay-per-view event will be held on June 8, 2019 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko wants to get back inside the Octagon as soon as possible, so that likely leaves Jessica Eye on the outside looking in.

Defending the flyweight title is something that Shevchenko has wanted to do since she won it back in December of last year. This is a welcome change from the division’s first champion, Nicco Montano.

Shevchenko’s first title defense looked like it would be against Eye, who earned that distinction with a victory over Katlyn Chookagian at the same event that saw Shevchenko win the strap.

Eye took to social media just the other day to call out Shevchenko for the newly announced UFC 238 card in Chicago, IL later this year.

However, according to the champion’s manager, Roger Allen, she is available to fight just weeks from now. And that and waiting four more months is not of particular interest. (h/t MMAJunkie) Because of that, Eye will likely be passed up.

Allen also said that the UFC already tried to make the fight with Eye once at UFC on ESPN+ 3. But Eye declined because of an issue with her teeth.

If Shevchenko is to keep to her words shortly after winning the flyweight title, she’d like to get a fight booked soon.

“This is what I want to do: to defend the belt as much as I can,” Shevchenko said in December. “I’m healthy now; I didn’t get any hard injuries. Just go straight to the busy work again. I don’t want to spend the time saying, ‘OK, I’ll keep the belt for a year, doing nothing and just say hello to the media and show the belt.’ No, I want action. For me, that’s more important.”
