Jimi Manuwa hasn’t been shy in regards to how he feels about his fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweights. He recently blasted fighters in the 205-pound division for turning down fights against him.
Despite having some trouble finding competition, “Poster Boy” has a positive outlook on 2017. Manuwa spoke with Flo Combat and he is eyeing gold before the year ends:
“This is going to be my year I know it. I’m going to get that title and bring it back to London. I want the winner of Cormier and ‘Rumble,’ but I’m going to let my fighting do the talking. I’ve never been one to call people out and badmouth them because that’s just not me. I don’t like it when people say my name because that’s when s*it can get personal.”
Despite targeting Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson, Manuwa said he doesn’t plan on talking his way to a title shot. He’d rather let his performances push him to the top of the division.
“I’m always humble and I just let my fighting do the talking. At the end of the day it isn’t about the talk–you got to fight. People who run their mouths and don’t back it up soon get shown up. It’s not about being a good role model, it’s about being a good f*cking fighter and I’ll let my hands do the talking. I ain’t got any messages for nobody. It’s a fight at the end of the day and I take it very seriously.”
Manuwa is scheduled to throw down with Corey Anderson at a UFC Fight Night event in London on March 18. If things go the “Poster Boy’s” way, then the judges will not be needed.
“I won’t need more than two rounds anyway. I’m going to finish him in two rounds. I’m ready–I just want two rounds. Two rounds and it’s done, I won’t bother with a third, it’s unnecessary.”

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa hasn’t had much luck finding opposition it seems. The “Poster Boy” rebounded from a knockout loss to Anthony Johnson by delivering a knockout of his own. Manuwa’s victim was former interim title contender Ovince Saint Preux back in October.
Since that time, Manuwa said he’s tried to step inside the Octagon with three 205-pounders. He told Flo Combat that all of them avoided him. First was Glover Teixeira:
“I signed the contract and everything and then they went and scrapped the card. They then asked me to fight him in Denver, Colorado at altitude so I would’ve had to go [through] massive expenses flying my team out there for [a] month. I told them that and tried to negotiate with them, but they said no. So then I said I’d fight him on the Brooklyn card [UFC 208]. They were then considering it and I told them I really wanted to fight Glover because it makes good sense for everyone.”
“They came back to me and said that Brooklyn was a no go. The next thing I know, Teixeira is fighting some guy that’s not even in the top 15 [Jared Cannonier]. It makes zero sense to anybody. Why does that fight make sense? I don’t understand it.”
“After that happened, I said give me Bader, it’s another one that makes sense because he’s ranked above me and I think it will be another good fight. They came back to me and said that Bader was a no go because of his contract situation. I was thinking, ‘why does no one want to fight?'”
The final straw was when Manuwa couldn’t secure a bout with former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
“They came back and they said no–Shogun said no. I was just like, ‘what the f*ck is going on here?’ Where is everyone? I hate calling people out and saying people’s names, but now I can understand why they do it. There’s way too much cherry picking going on and people that just want to hold on to their spot.”
Luckily for Manuwa, Corey Anderson stepped up to take the challenge. They will be competing at a UFC Fight Night event in London on March 18.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be making its return to London on March 18. The UFC previously announced six bouts for the card including Brad Pickett’s retirement fight against Henry Briones. This morning, they announced three more bouts.
First, the official Twitter page of UFC Europe announced a lightweight tilt between Joseph Duffy and Reza Madadi. Then the account revealed light heavyweights Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson will also be on the card. The third new bout is a women’s bantamweight contest between Lina Lansberg and Veronica Macedo.
Manuwa will be returning to the place he calls home after his second round knockout over Ovince Saint Preux back in October. The win got him back on track after suffering the second loss of his career to Anthony Johnson. Anderson also got back in the win column in his last fight. After losing a controversial split decision to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Anderson dominated Sean O’Connell in a second round TKO finish.
Duffy’s first loss since Oct. 2011 came at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 195. “Irish Joe” returned to the Octagon six months later to take on Mitch Clarke. Duffy submitted Clarke in 25 seconds. Madadi’s last bout was eight months ago. He TKO’d Yan Cabral and sent him packing from the UFC.
Lansberg had a rough go in her UFC debut. She was welcomed to the world leader in mixed martial arts (MMA) by Cris Cyborg. “Elbow Princess” was demolished. She’ll look to earn her first UFC win against Macedo. This will be Macedo’s second UFC bout as well. She was TKO’d by Ashlee Evans-Smith in her debut.
This UFC Fight Night event will take place inside the O2 Arena. UFC Fight Club members will get access to pre-sale tickets on Jan. 25. Those who are signed up with the UFC’s newsletter will gain access to tickets the following day. The general public will be able to purchase tickets on Jan. 27. For more information, visit the UFC’s UK website.

Hard hitting light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa (16-2) is going back to the place he calls home when he battles Corey Anderson (9-2) at a UFC Fight Night event in London on March 18. FloCombat brought word of the scheduled bout. Manuwa may have been born in the United States and once moved to Nigeria, but his life took a fortunate turn in the right direction when he moved to England.
He’ll look to give his true hometown fans in London something to cheer for. It won’t be easy as he’ll be sharing the Octagon with “Overtime.” Anderson won The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 19 with a TKO win over Matt Van Buren back in July 2014. Anderson suffered a controversial split decision loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 198. He made a statement in his next fight against Sean O’Connell in a dominating TKO win.
Manuwa is also coming off a win in devastating fashion. The “Poster Boy” flattened former interim title contender Ovince Saint Preux in the second round of their contest at UFC 204. The win earned Manuwa a “Performance of the Night” bonus.
A win for Anderson would have major rankings implications for him. The fighter out of Rockford, Illinois currently sits at No. 9 on the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) 205-pound rankings. For the No. 5 ranked Manuwa, a win will most likely keep his spot intact. He’ll probably move to the No. 4 spot if Ryan Bader decides to sign with Bellator.
In his 16 professional career wins, Manuwa has knocked out 14 of his opponents and submitted one. He has only gone the distance one time. Anderson has knocked out four of his opponents, with the rest of his wins going to a decision.
The UFC Fight Night event will be held at the O2 Arena. A headliner for the event has not been revealed.

A report by FloCombat’s Jim Edwards has light heavyweight contenders Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa set for UFC 208 next year.
Teixeira (25-5) suffered an August loss to Anthony Johnson via knockout, snapping his three-fight win streak. The former title contender is 8-3 with the UFC.
Manuwa (16-2) has alternated wins and losses over his last four after starting out 14-0. In October, he knocked out Ovince Saint Preux for the biggest win of his career.
UFC 208 takes place January 21 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
