Jiri Prochazka warned poor striking defense cost him against Alex Pereira at UFC 295

Henry Cejudo warns Jiri Prochazka about his striking defence heading into his bout against Alex Pereira.

On November 11, two of the UFC’s most devastating strikers are set to do battle for the vacant light-heavyweight title. After successfully defeating Jan Blachowicz in his first fight at the 205lb limit, Pereira was immediately slotted in to be one half of the fight for Jamahal Hill’s recently vacated title.

Having never actually lost his title, vacating his title after suffering a shoulder injury, it was only right that Prochazka was granted shot upon his return.

Throughout their UFC careers the pair have produced brutal finishes, and have been apart of exciting contests. Pereira is the more schooled of the two having won titles in two divisions as a glory kickboxer. The Brazilian also poses elite power, having numerous highlight reel knockouts to his name.

Prochazka brings a unconventional approach to striking, taking inspiration from more traditional martial arts. The 31-year-old is very unpredictable and too holds serious power – Prochazka is a real threat and is willing to battle through adversity to earn victory.

Henry Cejudo critical of Jiri Prochazka’s defence

Prochazka is a proven finisher, but is also no stranger to being dropped and hurt in his contests.

Discussing the matchup, Henry Cejudo feels that this could not be a good sign when heading into a fight with someone like Pereira, claiming that the ‘hittable’ Prochazka could

“The technique, as good as you are with everything, there’s one area where I feel like you really need to get better at — two areas,” Cejudo said. (transcribed by Farah Hannoun). “Your defence, with your hands: I don’t like seeing you get hit because that may cost you against a guy like Alex Pereira. Then the other thing, too, is your takedown defence. Your takedown defence is still a little suspect.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Along with winning titles in the UFC, Cejudo also spends a lot of time working on his YouTube channel where he will post technique and fight breakdowns.

Former UFC middleweight world champion Alex Pereira is gearing up for another opportunity to claim gold.

This time, the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman’ will challenge for the vacant light heavyweight title against the division’s former champ, Jiri Prochazka. Relinquishing the belt late last year after suffering a brutal shoulder injury, Prochazka is determined to reclaim the crown he never lost, but it will be an uphill battle as he faces a three-time GLORY Kickboxing world champion with a penchant for delivering highlight-reel-worthy knockouts.

With their UFC 295 showcase a few short weeks away, fight fans are already getting a glimpse of Alex Pereir’s impressive physique courtesy of ESPN MMA on X.

The Unlikely Pairing of Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka

After capturing the middleweight title via a shocking fifth-round KO of Israel Adesanya, ‘Poatan’ handed the belt back at UFC 287, suffering his first career loss inside the Octagon. Since then, Pereira has made the move to light heavyweight and earned his first victory in the division in July, defeating former champion Jan Blachowicz via a closely contested split decision. The win earned him an opportunity to claim his second title in as many weight classes.

Determined to stop Alex Pereira from leaving Madison Square Garden as a champion, Jiri Prochazka will compete for the first time since he initially claimed the title for himself in a back-and-forth Fight of the Year contender with Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. Prochazka and Teixeira were expected to run back their instant classic last December before a shoulder injury put ‘Denisa’ on the shelf for more than a year.

Healed up and ready to go, Jiri Prochazka will look to reclaim the strap on November 11 when the UFC heads to the world’s most famous arena for a loaded 30th-anniversary showcase headlined by a heavyweight championship dream match between Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Stipe Miocic

Jiri Prochazka claims Alex Pereira is not a good martial artist ahead of UFC 295 title fight

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has heaped praise on the striking prowess and ability of former middleweight titleholder, Alex Pereira ahead of their upcoming vacant title fight at UFC 295 in November, however, is more than unsure if the Brazilian is actually a good out and out martial artist.

Prochazka, the current number one ranked light heavyweight contender, is slated to make his first Octagon walk since May of last year next month, as he returns in the co-main event of UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden.

Taking on former middleweight champion, Pereira, Czech Republic native, Prochazka will attempt to become a two-time light heavyweight titleholder, having struck gold in Singapore in the summer of last year with a rallying fifth round submission win over Pereira’s training partner and close friend, Glover Teixeira.

Undergoing a surgical procedure to address a shoulder injury suffered ahead of his championship fight rematch with Teixeira last December, Prochazka has been sidelined through the catastrophic setback in the time since.

Jiri Prochazka questions Alex Pereira’s ability as a martial artist

And sharing his thoughts on a stylistic matchup with Pereira next month in New York City, Prochazka claimed that while the former can strike with the best of them, as a martial artist, he’s not particularly “good”.

“It’s for me, a beautiful story and big challenge,” Jiri Prochazka told Shakiel Mahjouri during a recent interview. “I have to say, Alex (Pereira), he’s not a good martial artist, like on the ground, on the wrestling but one thing he can do and knows what to do is his striking. It will be a pleasure to compete with him in the stand-up.”

“He’s good in stand-up but not good in wrestling and all these things,” Jiri Prochazka explained. “He’s too much focused on striking. He’s very good at that but on the other things, other styles, he’s not good, too. I am not too good of a wrestler to say that but I think I am better than him. Doesn’t matter. That’s my opinion, my stance.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

Ex-Champ Jamahal Hill confirms he will face the winner of Jiri Prochazka vs. Alex Pereira at UFC 295

When Jamahal Hill makes his return to the Octagon, he’ll get a crack at whoever holds the light heavyweight title at the time.

That bit of news comes according to the man himself who recently spoke with James Lynch in a LowKick MMA exclusive interview.

“Whoever has the belt when I recover, wherever, whenever we’re good to go, that’s who I’ll fight,” Hill said.

Seven months after besting Glover Teixeira to capture the 205-pound crown in January, Jamahala Hill was forced to vacate the title after rupturing his Achilles. The devastating injury could keep ‘Sweet Dreams’ on the shelf for upwards of a year, leading the promotion to book a light heavyweight showdown at UFC 295 between former champion Jiri Prochazka and ex-middleweight king Alex Pereira. The winner would then face Jamahal Hill upon his highly anticipated return.

Asked about a potential timeline for his return to the Octagon, Jamahal Hill said:

My understanding is just to focus on recovery. Not putting a timeline on it. Just working to see where we are.”

Despite UFC 300 being a short six months away, Hill hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making his triumphant return at the landmark event to challenge for the light heavyweight title. “I haven’t ruled it out, but right now we’re just seeing… We’re going through the recovery and we’re gonna see.”

He added, “There haven’t been any setbacks. Things have been going well. I have a really good doctor. I have a really good team that’s working on me to make sure I get back to where I need to be.”

‘Sweet Dream’ currently sits at 6-1 inside the Octagon, his lone loss coming against Paul Craig in 2021 after suffering an arm injury in the opening round. Since then, Hill has scored four straight, including his title-winning performance against the recently retired Glover Teixeira.

Jiri Prochazka signs contract for UFC 295 title fight with Alex Pereira signed prepared

Slated to make his return to active competition in November at UFC 295, former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has officially put pen to paper on his bout agreement to fight former middleweight titleholder, Alex Pereira – in the pair’s massive vacant championship outing.

Prochazka, the current number one ranked light heavyweight contender under the promotion’s banner, has been sidelined from active competition since June of last year, most recently landing the undisputed light heavyweight championship with a fifth round rallying rear-naked choke submission win over Pereira’s close friend and teammate, Glover Teixeira.

Sidelined in the time since, the Czech Republic native suffered a catastrophic shoulder injury ahead of a planned return last December against Teixeira in a title rematch, electing to relinquish his championship as a result.

As for Pereira, the former undisputed middleweight champion, who currently holds the number three rank at light heavyweight, earned his place in the divisional top-three with a close, split decision win over former champion, Jan Blachowicz back in July in the co-main event of UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

And booking a massive vacant light heavyweight championship fight with former Rizin FF titleholder, Prochazka in November, Pereira and former champion will take co-main event honors beneath a monstrous heavyweight title fight between the incumbent, Jon Jones and former two-time champion, Stipe Miocic.
