UFC President Dana White is not just the boss but a real fan at heart. White reacted to Jiri Prochazka’s incredible submission victory over Glover Teixeira the same as everyone did inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium at UFC 275.

The light heavyweight title fight consisted of a remarkable back-and-forth war between two durable fighters who would not quit. Eventually, in the fifth, with thirty seconds remaining, Prochazka forced Teixeria to tap, allowing himself to become the first UFC champion from the Czech Republic, and almost guaranteed a place in the hall-of-fame books with the extraordinary bout.

White did not make the trip to Singapore for the event and remained in the U.S to celebrate in Miami for his son turning 21. Still, White watched the action unfold in a light heavyweight barnburner that won’t be forgotten.

“He tapped!” Dana White yelled in his Instagram live video. “No way! No f*cking way! Jiri f*cking tapped him out. No way. No way. What a f*cking fight. What an absolute f*cking war, man. Sh*t, my phone is f*cking blowing up.”

The monumental victory moved Prochazka to (29-3-1) in MMA and advanced his ongoing win streak to 13. It took the Czech Republic native just three fights inside the organization to attain UFC gold after finishing Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes in his first two outings.

Prochazka’s unique and tricky style will make him a hard man to dethrone. He showed his well-rounded skill-set, sheer toughness and will to never quit on himself. In his post-fight interview backstage, the 29-year-old welcomed the rematch with Texiera when asked what would be next but also was happy to stand across the Octagon from former light heavyweight champion Jan B?achowicz, who was in attendance.

If you were in Dana White’s position, who would you have face Prochazka next?

Glover Teixeira has released his first statement after dropping the UFC light heavyweight championship to Ji?í Procházka in the UFC 275 main event.

At UFC 275, Glover Teixeira and Ji?í Procházka took part in what may now be the current frontrunner for Fight of the Year in the main event of the evening. It was a back-and-forth and action-filled fight that was going Teixeira’s way with the scorecards in his favor as the fight winded down with less than a minute remaining.

Then suddenly, the wildman striker Ji?í Procházka shocked the world by submitting second-degree black belt and grappling legend Glover Teixeira.

Teixeira’s championship win last October at UFC 267 was viewed as one of the most inspirational moments in promotion history. At 42 years old, Teixeira was able to finally reach the summit of the UFC’s light heavyweight division after a grueling 19-year journey.

After the abrupt end to his widely celebrated title reign, Teixeira took to social media to issue the following statement. (via MMA Fighting)

“We got hit a little bit there, but I gave my best in this fight,” Teixeira said. “But the hand came in the neck, I was very tired, and I think I didn’t believe [in the submission]. I should have turned, but now it’s too late to cry over spilled milk. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

“I gave my best and it wasn’t enough, but let’s go for the next one. Thank you to all of you that root for me for the support. I’m fine, just a few cuts, but let’s go.”

It is unclear what the immediate future holds for Teixeira or the new champion Procházka. Teixeira has already floated the idea of a rematch after dropping the title, to which Procházka has already responded with a solemn vow.

Other possible names in title contention are Jan Blachowicz, Magomed Anakalaev, and Anthony Smith.

Teixeira had assured Blachowicz that he would receive a title shot if he were to retain the title over Procházka at UFC 275. Blachowicz returned to the win column with an injury-stoppage victory over Aleksandar Raki? in March. As for Ankalaev and Smith, they will compete next month at UFC 277.

Should the promotion go the direction of an immediate rematch, however, there probably won’t be too many fans moaning at having to “sit through” another Teixeira vs. Procházka encounter after the battle of the ages that transpired at UFC 275.

Do you believe Glover Teixeira will recapture the light heavyweight championship before he retires?

After what was arguably one of the greatest light heavyweight bouts of all time, the now-former 205lb champion Glover Teixiera has requested that he and Jiri Prochazka immediately run the fight back.

Glover Teixeira was up on the scorecards entering round five, and looked set to claim yet another underdog victory. However, with less than a minute to go, Prochazka was able to lock up a submission that forced Teixeira to tap.

There will no doubt no be endless debate on who Jiri Prochazka’s first title defense will be against. But Teixeira instantly made it clear that he is happy to run the fight back. The veteran fighter took to Twitter shortly after the fight, simply stating “Rematch??”

Anthony Smith does not agree that Glover Teixeira should be next for the title shot

Whilst fans of MMA will no doubt be happy to see Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira 2, one man who does not agree is Anthony Smith. ‘Lionheart’ is set to take on Magomed Ankalaev in the near future, and believes it should be a No.1 contender bout. Speaking on the UFC 275 post-fight show, Smith stated that:

“I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but Dana White has already come out and said that Magomed Ankalaev vs. me is a No. 1 contender fight. The winner gets a title shot. Dana is the boss. That’s what I think Ankalaev and I both thought was probably going to happen. Jan and Rakic just fought. Rakic was injured. Jan was probably losing that fight up until that injury. Essentially they both lost. That leaves me and Ankalaev. We’ve both been at the top of the division for a long time. I think that’s what’s next.” (H/T MMA Junkie).

Procházka defeated Glover Teixeira in a thrilling, back-and-forth affair at UFC 275 tonight. There were several moments in the fight when the 28-year-old Czech came within a hair’s breath of being submitted.

But with less than 30 seconds left in the final round and behind on the scorecards, Procházka came through with a rear-naked choke submission to end Teixeira’s short reign as champ.

Procházka Criticizes His Performance, Responds To Teixeira

Despite becoming not only the first fighter in his 20s since Jon Jones to win the light heavyweight belt, but also the first Czech to do so, Ji?í was highly critical of his performance.

“I was a little bit lazy to set up some situations and to prepare him for the knockout…to see the moments, see the right places and catch it. That was my laziness in the fight,” said Procházka at the UFC 275 post fight press conference.

While Procházka may blame himself for how the fight played out, credit must surely be given to Teixeira, who was less than half a minute away from defending his title when the Czech earned his submission.

And given the razor thin margin with which the fight was won, many surely wouldn’t mind seeing the duo run it back, most notably Teixeira himself. The 42-year-old took to Twitter shortly after the fight to raise the possibility of a rematch.

Responding to the tweet, Procházka told press that he’s not opposed to the idea of fighting Glover again or facing Jan Blachowicz. But whoever he faces next, one thing is certain — Ji?í will enter the Octagon as a much-improved fighter.

“It doesn’t matter (if it) will be Glover or Jan,” said Procházka. “Doesn’t matter. For me, it doesn’t matter. For the next fight, I swear I will be another fighter. Not like that. That was not (a) good performance for me.”

Procházka went on to say that he is used to fighting as the hunter at all times, not a survivor, which he felt he was during multiple points during the fight. Nevertheless, in the eyes of every 205er on the roster who witnessed his championship win, he has now become the hunted.

What do you think? Should Ji?í Procházka have a rematch with Glover Teixeira?
