Alex Pereira is preparing to go to war with Jiri Prochazka.
In November 2023, ‘Poatan’ scored a second-round knockout over Prochazka to take the light heavyweight title back home to Brazil. Seven months later, the two will run it back on 16 days’ notice as they headline UFC 303 this Saturday night, June 29, inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Taking a page out of the Stanley Kubrick classic Full Metal Jacket, Pereira was spotted getting a military-style haircut ahead of his highly anticipated rematch with ‘BJP.’
Alex Pereira seeking another impressive title defense at 205
Pereira goes into his second defense of the 205-pound title with a solid 7-1 record inside the Octagon, his lone loss coming against Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Since then, he’s scored victories over former champion Jan Blachowicz, Prochazka, and Hill.

Four-fight rival of incumbent light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira – Israel Adesanya, has picked the Brazilian to lose his title this weekend in his short-notice headliner at UFC 303 – in rather devastating fashion to boot, in the form of a KO defeat to challenger, Jiri Prochazka.
And most recently fighting Pereira back in April of last year in Miami, City Kickboxing striker, Adesanya stopped the former with a hellacious second round knockout – landing his first victory against the Brazilian – at the fourth time of trying.
Israel Adesanya picks Jiri Prochazka to beat Alex Pereira at UFC 303
Offering his official prediction for this weekend’s main event between rival, Pereira and the above-mentioned, Prochazka, Adesanya has picked the Czech Republic finisher to land the light heavyweight crown – claiming he will have learned from his own mistakes and take home the championship with a brutal finish.
“The approach from both fighters will be different because they [Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka] both know what can happen,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “Alex knows that he can get taken down and controlled – Jiri knows that he can get knocked out – Alex knows that he can get touched and hurt by Jiri.”
“…So, who’s going to try and kill who in this fight? I’m going to go [with] Jiri because we’re the chosen few, but I think he might have learned from his mistakes,” Israel Adesanya explained. “I’m going to go [with] Jiri and I’m going to go by third round or fourth round finish.”
Fighting Prochazka back in November of last year, Sao Paulo knockout artist, Pereira finished the ex-titleholder with a second round KO to win the vacant light heavyweight championship in Madison Square Garden.
What are your thoughts of Israel Adesanya predicting Alex Pereira’s demise at UFC 303?

Jiri Prochazka is requesting that Alex Pereira lay down his magic stones and Shamanic spells and meet him inside the Octagon mono e mono.
In November 2023, ‘Poatan’ scored a second-round knockout against Prochazka inside Madison Square Garden to capture the light heavyweight championship, his second title in the span of a year. Seven months later, they’ll run it back on just 16 days’ notice when they step into the main event spotlight at UFC 303 on June 29.
Both fighters are coming off big wins at UFC 300 in April. Prochazka scored a stellar come-from-behind KO against Aleksandar Rakic while Pereira closed the show with a highlight-reel knockout of former champion Jamahal Hill.
“I saw how he was working against Jamahal and after the fight against Jamahal,” Prochazka said during an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “I don’t want to be bad in (saying this), but I think he believes a lot in help of spiritual things, and that’s something that I think he can’t fight without because I want to keep that in a clear line.
“Just the sport performance, pure performance, man versus man, but I think he doesn’t know how to fight without that because he used these things every time, so I think right now, I’m looking forward to that” (h/t MMA Mania).
Asked to clarify what he meant by “spiritual things,” Prochazka shared his belief that ‘Poatan’ is using Shamanic magic to win his fights.
“Everybody knows he is working with some Shamanics, with some Shamans from his hometown and he believes in some spiritual help from them.
“I believe too, but I believe in the best performance, in human performance right here right now, without no magic, and let’s see if Alex will still work like that because it’s working but I believe in a clear way, and I will do that and I want to win by that way,”
It sounds like Jiri Prochazka is accusing Pereira of using a new type of PED — Performance Enhancing Deities. Or perhaps ‘BJP’ has been playing a little too much Elden Ring.
Jiri Prochazka is no stranger to unusual training methods
Of course, Alex Pereira isn’t the only one using unusual training methods in between fights. Prochazka is well-known for locking himself in a dark room for days at a time with nothing, but some water and his thoughts.
“It was great, three and a half days without food, just you, water and training, spending time with your best ideas and best motivations, going through your fears, that’s all,” Prochazka said.
Prochazka is 4-1 under the UFC banner, his lone loss coming against Pereira at UFC 295. All of his wins inside the Octagon have come via second-round KO with the lone exception being his Fight of the Year candidate with Glover Teixeira in June 2022.
‘BJP’ finished the Brazilian in the fifth round via RNC to claim the light heavyweight title.
Following his big first-round KO of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, Ankalaev appeared to be the next man in line for Pereira, though the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman’ didn’t seem too terribly interested in that fight, instead pushing for a rematch with ‘BJP’ following their November 2023 barnburner.
However, Pereira appears to have had a change of heart, revealing in a recent interview that he would more than welcome a fight with Ankalaev once he takes care of a bit of business with Prochazka.
“Magomed Ankalaev is a guy I would like to test myself against,” Pereira told Stake. “A lot of people talk about that match up and say that he will submit me really quickly. I would like to shut a lot of those people up and show a lot of my ground game as well. It won’t be an easy fight, but it will be a very interesting fight.’’
Magomed Ankalaev itching for his shot at Alex Pereira
Magomed Ankalaev has been chomping at the bit to get another shot at the gold since his split draw with Jan Blachowicz for the vacant 205-pound title back in December 2022.
Since then, the belt has been held by two different men but defended only once.
No matter who leaves T-Mobile Arena with the gold on Friday night, Ankalaev will be waiting to emerge from the shadows and take the strap that barely slipped through his fingers almost two years ago.

Putting his final preparations in place for his short-notice return this weekend, undisputed light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira took in some sparring rounds with 6ft 6in heavyweight boxer, Dempsey McKean – ahead of his UFC 303 return against Jiri Prochazka on Saturday night.
Taking on former-foe, Prochazka, Pereira looks to rack up his second win over the Czech Republic star as well as his second successful defense of the 205lbs crown in his return to Las Vegas.
Headlining the monumental UFC 300 card earlier this year, Sao Paulo striking phenom, Alex Pereira stopped returning former gold holder, Jamahal Hill with a stunning opening round KO – improving his winning spree to three straight fights at the weight limit.
Sparring the Ipswitch native, Pereira managed to land notable shots on the 22-1 former WBO world championship victor – whose sole loss came in the form of a final round TKO defeat to Croat striking star, Filip Hrgovic back in August of last year in London.
First sharing the Octagon with former light heavyweight champion, Prochakza at UFC 295 back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, Pereira would stop the Czech finishing ace with a second round TKO in New York, felling him with a slew of elbow strikes at the fence before landing ground and pound blows.
