Joe Rogan joins Michael Bisping for commentary at UFC 298 ahead of title fight showdown

Long-time color-commentator, Joe Rogan will enter the three-man booth for commentary duty for the first time this year, next weekend, as the podcast host and standup comedian joins former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, and play-by-play lead, Jon Anik to call all the action in Anaheim, California at UFC 298 next week.

Returning to pay-per-view in their United States debut this annum, the Octagon lands at Honda Center in Anaheim, with an undisputed featherweight championship headliner taking main event honors.

Making his own comeback to 145 pounds, Australian favorite, Alexander Volkanovski looks to defend his featherweight crown against unbeaten challenger, Ilia Topuria – who remains steadfast in his prediction of a dominant first round knockout win over the incumbent at UFC 298.

Joe Rogan lands new deal with Spotify worth a reported $250 million, podcast no longer exclusive to the platform

The Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan inked a new multi-year deal with Spotify to keep his popular podcast — The Joe Rogan Experience — on the platform for years to come.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the deal is worth a reported $250 million. Under the new agreement, Rogan’s popular show — which has been exclusively available on Spotify since 2020 — will now be available on other audio platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and YouTube.

In a deviation from his first deal with the company, which was worth more than $200 million, Spotify will sell ads for and distribute Rogan’s show in a video format on YouTube, the Journal noted.

The Joe Rogan Experience has been racking up listeners since it debuted on the podcasting scene in 2009.

“I think podcasting is an art form and I definitely sucked at it when I first started,” Rogan said in an interview with Spotify. “I was curious, but I didn’t understand how to make a conversation flow. I didn’t know when to shut up and listen, and I didn’t know how to make someone comfortable so that you can get the most out of their perspective. I’ve learned how to assist the conversation’s flow instead of waiting for my turn to talk. I learned how to be fully locked in with what the other person is saying.

“A lot of what helps is that I’ve done it for so many hours and learned how to do it better over trial and error, but also that I only have people on the show that I’m genuinely interested in talking to. I never do a podcast just because a person is popular. It’s always from a place of ‘I think it would be cool to talk to that person.’‘”

Joe Rogan’s Run on Spotify Has been loaded with controversy

Despite ranking as the No. 1 podcast in the world, the show has often been a point of contention among listeners. Rogan’s choice of provocative guests aside, Spotify and the show itself were the subject of an all-out boycott after the longtime UFC commentator made controversial anti-vax comments and regularly called into question the legitimacy of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Multiple music artists, including Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Indie Arie, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, pulled their libraries from the platform in protest of Rogan’s content. Unfortunately, the controversy didn’t stop there.

In February 2022, Spotify pulled 70 episodes of JRE in which the host had uttered the N-word, creating another string of backlash.

“I’ve also learned so much—not just from all the episodes themselves—but also from all the audiobooks I’ve listened to, articles and books that I’ve read, and documentaries I’ve watched either for the show, or because of the show,” Rogan added. “I always feel like, in starting this podcast, I stumbled into this fantastic accidental education just by being interested in talking to people, and being fortunate enough that people want to listen.”

Longtime commentator Joe Rogan hates one of UFC 300’s most exciting fights

Joe Rogan on UFC 300 fight

While the main event remains a mystery, UFC 300 is shaping up to be the biggest event in the promotion’s 30+ year history.

UFC CEO Dana White has been drip-feeding fans over the last several weeks, revealing one fight at a time for the company’s next landmark event on April 13. Of the 10 bouts announced, the one that seems to have fans the most excited — main event withstanding — is the BMF title clash between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. However, not everyone is in love with the matchmaking.

During a recent episode of his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the longtime UFC commentator was admittedly blown away by the announcement but fears that Holloway, a former featherweight world champion, may be too small to compete with the 155’ers.

“You know what I hate [about the fight],” Rogan said. Max is a great 45-pounder, Dustin Poirier beat him up at 55lbs. I think those guys are a little bit too big for him.”

Holloway made a very brief move to lightweight in 2019 for a fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 236. ‘Blessed’ lost a lopsided unanimous decision before promptly returning to 145.

joe Rogan Believes Max Holloway Should Be Next in line for featherweight title fight

Joe Rogan also believes that Holloway is the next man in line for a featherweight title opportunity, but a loss to Gaethje at UFC 300 could potentially hurt his momentum.

“Also, Max is right there in the hunt for the title,” Rogan added. “[When] Volkanovski gets done with Topuria, Max is a likely next fight. It’s 100 percent there.”

Holloway has already stepped inside the Octagon with Alexander Volkanovski on three separate occasions, losing via decision each time. If Ilia Topuria manages to score an upset against ‘The Great’ at UFC 298 in February, there’s a good chance ‘Blessed’ will be the first to challenge the new champ. If Volkanovski retains, it’s hard to imagine the promotion booking a fourth fight between the two, or fans willingly paying for it.

Dustin Poirier issued warning ahead of Benoit Saint-Denis fight at UFC 299: ‘He’s such a scary guy’

Dustin Poirier warned ahead of Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 that guy is so scary

Former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has been urged to keep his p’s and q’s in check at UFC 299 in March, with color-commentator, Joe Rogan pointing to the recent finishing streak of surging contender and incoming foe, Benoit Saint-Denis.

Poirier, the current number three ranked lightweight challenger, has been sidelined since he featured in the main event of UFC 291 back in July of last year.

Suffering a stunning second round loss, Poirier was stopped with a devastating high-kick KO loss to fellow former interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje in the pair’s title rematch.

As for Saint-Denis, the Frenchman turned in his fifth consecutive victory and stoppage win at UFC 295 back in November at Madison Square Garden, landing a first round high-kick KO win of his own against Matt Frevola – earning the number eleven rank at the lightweight limit to boot.

Dustin Poirier warned ahead of UFC 299 return

And opening as a significant betting underdog to beat Saint-Denis at UFC 299 in March, Poirier has been warned of the incoming threat of the former by veteran UFC caller, Rogan.

“This is such a big fight,” Joe Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience. “Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis. That’s the big fight. That Saint-Denis guy is a f*cking killer. He’s such a killer, that guy’s such a scary guy.”

“I’m telling you, that Saint-Denis is next level,” Rogan explained. “He’s got furnaces going in his eyes. You look into that guy’s eyes, there’s hell going on behind those eyes. He’s built for it. So, him versus Dustin, is very exciting. And Dustin better be ready to go. You better be ready to go with that guy, because he’s going to try and make a name off of him.”

Who wins at UFC 299 in March: Dustin Poirier or Benoit Saint-Denis?

UFC commentator Joe Rogan left dumbfounded as Bo Nickal is dubbed the ‘Tim Tebow of the UFC’

Bo Nickal and Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is a two-time BCS National Champion and the first underclassman in Florida Gators history to win the Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately, that’s where much of Tebow’s success ended.

Drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos, Tebow’s NFL career started pretty hot with the college football phenom leading the Broncos to a 7–1 run in his first eight starts. He also led the franchise to its first division title and playoff victory in six years. However, Tebow quickly grew a reputation for struggling throughout a game only to lead his team to a dramatic come-from-behind victory.

Despite finding early success, Tebow was ultimately traded to the New York Jets, followed by the Patriots, Eagles, and Jaguars. Once cut during the preseason in Jacksonville, Tebow’s NFL career was effectively over.

As a result, being dubbed “the next Tim Tebow” in any sport comes with a negative connotation.

Brendan Schaub Compares Bo Nickal to Tim Tebow

During longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s UFC 297 fight companion on Saturday night, JRE regular Brendan Schaub made a confusing statement comparing Tim Tebow to highly-touted MMA prospect Bo Nickal that left Rogan at a complete loss for words.

“I think the UFC knows he’s gonna be champ,” Schaub, told a flabbergasted Rogan. “Let it clear up then we’re gonna release the hounds. He has it all. Check, check, check, check … checks all the boxes. He’s the Tim Tebow of f*cking UFC.”

Joe Rogan’s face at the end of the above clip says it all.

Schaub has previously claimed to be Tebow’s “very good friend,” insisting they “text and call each other all the time.” Clearly, the former UFC heavyweight isn’t familiar with his friend’s brief and unremarkable football career.

Thus far, Nickal is 5-0 in his mixed martial arts career, all of them coming by way of first-round finishes. He’s scheduled to make his third Octagon appearance at the promotion’s next big landmark event, UFC 300, on April 13. The three-time NCAA Division I National Champion will face his toughest test yet in Cody Brundage.

Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan’s UFC 297 fight companion turned into a full-on rave as the longtime UFC commentator broke out the smelling salts during Saturday’s middleweight title main event.

With the promotion’s first pay-per-view of 2024 emanating from the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada, Rogan opted to live-stream a fight companion alongside a slew of Joe Rogan Experience regulars, including former heavyweight standout Brendan Schaub, comedian Joey Diaz, and BJJ icon Eddie Bravo.

Following the opening round of the 185-pound title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, Rogan handed his guests some smelling salts to have a little fun between rounds.

The popular podcaster decided to turn things up to 11 with some EDM, prompting everyone to break out in dance.

Fight fans who tuned in to the fight companion appeared to have just as much fun watching the events unfold as Rogan and his crew of JRE OG’s had.

“Was the BEST Fight Companion EVER!!!”

“When the vibes are immaculate”

“Yall trying to kill Uncle Joey!”

“Well… looks like you guys had a good time”

“Yall had me turning up too”

“Absolutely 1 of my fav clips I’ve seen on the internet”

“I thought we might witness Joey have a heart attack live with those smelling salts, you guys made me nervous!”

“This was one of the best 4 hours of my life”

“Is that sh*t that good ??? I know it wakes u up but damn thats looking like a mix of molly and cocaine hahah”

Joe Rogan Shocked by Dricus Du Plessis’ UFC 297 Victory

Following Bruce Buffer’s announcement revealing Du Plessis as the new middleweight world champion, Rogan was seemingly shocked by the split decision in favor of the South African.

“Wow. Interesting. Very interesting. I wonder how the people online feel about that,” Rogan said. “Because, you know, we’re not scoring it while we’re watching it. We’re watching it, we’re just having fun.

“Were we wrong? It was good. Listen, fourth round he [Du Plessis] did awesome… I definitely think he won the fourth but do you think he won the fifth? I don’t know, man, the fifth seems like Sean was landing more shots… Interesting. Tough fight, though.”

Fans online, and even Dana White echoed similar sentiments, with the UFC CEO saying in no uncertain terms that he thought Sean Strickland did enough to retain his title in The Great White North during the post-fight press conference.
