ONE Championship has added another notable name to their roster. According to a report from MMA Fighting, former UFC 135-pound competitor John Lineker has inked a deal with the Singapore-based promotion.

“Hands Of Stone” was recently let go by the UFC after pulling from his scheduled co-main event bout against Rob Font at UFC Greenville. Lineker’s deal with ONE is said to be a multi-fight contract, and his promotional debut has yet to be booked. The Brazilian knockout artist will also be competing as a bantamweight in ONE, however, the promotion’s bantamweight division is contested at 145 pounds.

The 29-year-old had previously been with the UFC since 2012, only losing four times under the promotion’s banner out of his 16 total fights. Of those four losses, Lineker was only finished once. Over the course of his career he has proven himself to be one of the scariest knockout artists in the lighter weight classes of the promotion.

However, he struggled making the bantamweight limit of 136 pounds, as he missed weight several times with the UFC. That, along with pulling out of his recent fight on short-notice, forced the UFC to pull the plug on his run with the promotion:

“I think it was because he hasn’t made weight a few times,” Dana White said, “and I just know that the matchmakers were super frustrated with him. The guy wasn’t being professional.”

Earlier this week the UFC pulled off a rather shocking move by cutting top-ranked bantamweight John Lineker from the promotion.

This came shortly after Lineker pulled from his UFC Greenville bout against Rob Font in June on short-notice. Lineker pulled after suffering a facial laceration during his weight cut.

When asked by TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter why Lineker was released from the UFC, White noted the matchmakers were becoming fed up with the Brazilian and his unprofessionalism (via MMA Fighting):

“I think it was because he hasn’t made weight a few times,” White said, “and I just know that the matchmakers were super frustrated with him. The guy wasn’t being professional.”

While with the UFC, Lineker missed weight five times for several different fights. When he pulled out at the 11th hour for his fight against Font, the heavy-handed bantamweight’s unreliability also shone through, making the decision easier:

“When you don’t make it to the Octagon neither, a bunch of times, it’s a waste of everybody’s time, energy and money,” White said. “We expect guys to be professional, do what they’re supposed to do, show up. The matchmakers were done, they had it.”

Bantamweight contender John Lineker has been released by the UFC.

The news was first reported by MMA Junkie as it comes just over a week after Lineker was forced to pull out from his UFC Greenville co-main event against Rob Font. “Hands of Stone” was originally stepping in on short notice to replace Cody Stamann. However, Lineker had to withdraw on the day of weigh-ins after suffering a cut on his face during his weight cut.

That seemingly did not go down well with the UFC, especially given Lineker’s history of pulling out and missing weight, as they have now parted ways with the Brazilian. His team declined to comment when reached out to by MMA Junkie.

Earlier this year, Lineker, who had fought just three times since the start of 2017, was notably pleading with the UFC to book him in more fights or release him from his contract as he was struggling to make ends meet.

Lineker leaves the UFC with an impressive 12-4 record, including having won eight of his last 10 fights with the Las Vegas-based promotion. His most recent outing, however, was a split decision defeat to Cory Sandhagen at UFC Fort Lauderdale in April.
