Coach Mike Winkeljohn has shunned Jon Jones from the gym, following his most recent legal issues.

Jones has been a mainstay at the Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in Albuquerque, NM for many years. They have been a big part of making him one of the greatest fighters of all time, no matter what Dana White might think about the coaching staff.

However, following Jones’s most recent arrest for domestic violence charges, he is no longer allowed to train at this gym. Coach Mike Winkeljohn spoke on The MMA Hour and explained that he had a conversation with the former light heavyweight champ and told him that until he can get sober and stay that way for a while, he is not able to train in the gym.

“I’m very disappointed. It’s tough. The hardest part is when you hear that his daughters said that you’ve gotta call the police officers,” Winkeljohn said. It’s just tough because, from my standing, I’ve got three daughters. I have a wife, three daughters, a mom. I teach women’s self-defense called Smart Girls Self Defense. It just makes it hard when he keeps getting in trouble. But I just had a conversation with him. I said, ‘Jon, here’s the deal man. You’re like my little brother. You have to stop drinking and fix these things (before) you come back to the gym.”

“So at the moment, he’s out of the gym. He’s not allowed to come to the gym, because I feel I had to do that. Because ignoring it and expecting different results, as they say, is insanity. He has a lot of yes people around him that won’t tell him the truth. So he might hate me for it, but I had to tell him the truth. But in my heart, gosh, that guy is capable of greatness, and I’m not just talking about fighting. In my heart, I hope he comes back and wins the heavyweight title, stops drinking, and comes forward and goes on to bigger things.”

This is a massive move from Winkeljohn, given the fact that Jon Jones is easily the biggest name who trains at this highly popular gym. However, he says that he wants to ensure that the ladies whom he teaches self-defense to know that he has their back.

That said, he has not given up hope that Jones will be able to right the ship. He says that if the former champ can get the right team around him and get rid of the “yes men” in his posse, he will be able to get back on track.

“Jon would never do anything bad if he wasn’t drunk. Honestly, that’s it. But he’s gotta fix it,” Winkeljohn said.

“In my heart, I do (think he can fix it). If he’s willing to accept the truth, and if others out there stop being yes people, I think it will help. But honestly, it’s no one else’s fault. This is just a decision between he and I, and I hope I made the right decision. If not, I’m okay with it.”

A lot of people feel that Jon Jones has not really faced any consequences for his repeated run-ins with the law over the last few years. Perhaps this decision from Mike Winkeljohn was part of the reason he supposedly decided to give up drinking, serving as a wake-up call for one of the greatest of all time.

Light heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz is not surprised to hear about Jon Jones getting arrested again.

Blachowicz took over the light heavyweight title when Jones vacated the belt in an attempt to move up to heavyweight. Since then, the Polish fighter has been vocal about his interest in wanting to fight the former champ, saying that he expects it to happen at some point, even if it means he has to follow Jones to heavyweight.

That said, Jones likely had his heavyweight move delayed by another round of recent legal issues, being arrested for domestic violence issues. Speaking in an interview with James Lynch, Blachowicz made it clear that he was not surprised to hear that Jones is on the wrong side of the law yet again, stating that he feels it will continue to happen.

“I’m not disappointed. For me it’s boring, you know? I’m not surprised. Wake up a month (later), and I think we’re going to hear this story again,” Blachowicz said.

With this not being the first time Jon Jones has been in hot water with the law, some have been calling for the UFC to cut him. However, Blachowicz says that he does not want to see that happen, because he still wants to fight the two-time 205lb king.

“I’m not the judge, I don’t want to be the judge. It’s not my business. I hope not, because I believe that in the future I’m going to meet this guy in the Octagon,” Blachowicz said.

It is easy to understand the frustration and exhaustion from the fans, concerning Jon Jones and his repeated offenses, but it is hard to imagine that the UFC will part with such a huge star. Nevertheless, Jan Blachowicz brings up some good points, and it would be interesting to see if the two face off at some point.

Bellator featherweight champion Cris Cyborg is drawing attention to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and its effects on fighters.

CTE is a progressive brain condition created by repeated head traumas that cause concussions. Some of the primary symptoms associated with the condition include frequent mood swings, depression, and feeling increasingly anxious, frustrated, or agitated.

Recently, more and more fighters are finding themselves in trouble with the law. The thrill and agony of being a fighter are met with the highest highs and the lowest lows. As a 26-fight veteran, there is little that Cyborg hasn’t seen in the depths of competition.

Shortly after the arrest of Chuck Liddell, Cyborg took to social media to spread awareness about CTE. The Bellator champion is worried about what CTE can do to fighters’ personalities, and of course, their subsequent actions.

“One of the first signs of widespread CTE in the NFL came when close family members started to notice violent changes in their loved ones personalities. We are still new to the sport of MMA and just now discovering the lasting effects of competition.” Cyborg posted.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones found himself arrested for alleged battery domestic violence just last month. The list continues to grow, as Luis Peña was slapped with his second arrest of the year over the weekend for domestic violence and battery. And yesterday, Chuck Liddell was also arrested for domestic violence.

Head trauma and CTE remain some of the most difficult problems to contend with in MMA and contact sports. With a growing number of arrests popping up in MMA, perhaps it is only a matter of time before the UFC takes official action in helping prevent these serious ongoing health issues.

According to Curtis Blaydes, the odds of Jon Jones being released by the UFC are that of a coin flip.

In late September, Jon Jones was arrested for battery domestic violence. This is not the UFC superstar’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 2015, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run car accident with a pregnant woman. We are six years removed from that dark time, yet the former 205-pound king still finds himself in trouble.

Opinions on the Jon Jones arrest story have varied. While notable bantamweight Sean O’Malley believes “when you’re drunk, it’s not your true self”, others like Miesha Tate, believe Jon Jones simply needs to grow up and show self-accountability.

Speaking with MMA News‘ own James Lynch, the #4-ranked heavyweight gave the lowdown on “Bones” and if he believes the potential ‘LeBron of MMA’ will be released by the UFC.

“The UFC, Dana, Hunter, I think they’re definitely having conversations about it, but it’s honestly 50/50,” Blaydes said to MMA News. “That’s how amazing he is. Even with all this, even with the domestic, like, it’s still 50/50. Like I wouldn’t be shocked if they did release him, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they didn’t. And even if they did release him, would it be a permanent release? Would it be just like a suspension? I don’t know.”

Curtis Blaydes stepped into the Octagon a day after Jones was arrested. The mild-mannered 265-pound athlete nullified Jairzinho Rozenstruik’s power en route to a decision victory at UFC 266: Volkanovski vs. Ortega. Following his performance, the 30-year-old regretted the fact that he didn’t pursue the finish with more intensity.

What is YOUR opinion on the latest arrest of Jon Jones, to release or not to release?

Dominick Reyes Is Completely Dumbstruck By Jon Jones Arrest

Former light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes is near speechless after the latest arrest of Jon Jones.

Reyes and Jones have a history; the two met in Feb. of last year. In their encounter, Reyes’ length and versatile shot selection puzzled Jones. Nevertheless, the former 205-pound titleholder once again showed championship resolve and won the close fight by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, in Reyes’ next few fights, he would lose to Jan B?achowicz and Ji?í Procházka by TKO/knockout.

Astonished by the former champ’s actions, Reyes spoke with Fanatics View and lamented Jones’ behavior.

“That’s sad, man. It’s super-freakin’ crazy, man. It’s terrible that it’s a domestic situation, and his kids were there, and they saw. That’s the worst thing about the whole thing. Reyes stated. But the guy needs help. He’s got serious, serious, serious shit going on, man. My first thought was, ‘What?! You’re fuckin’ with me.’ Somebody told me in the morning. I was at a meet-and-greet, and they told me, ‘Oh, you hear Jon Jones got arrested last night? I’m like, ‘What? Are you serious?’ Like, ‘Yeah, he got arrested, dah-dah-dah.’ I’m like, Oh, so that’s why he’s not at the meet-and-greet.’”

Jones was arrested for battery domestic violence on Sept. 24. With a criminal history like Jones’ many have questioned if we will ever see the former 205-pound great make his move to heavyweight as originally planned. When asked if Jon Jones should be let go from the organization, Reyes believes that should be solely up to the promotion.

“It’s not a good look for anyone involved,” Reyes said. “Whether it’s the organization, or it’s Jon, or it’s family, no matter what, it’s all bad, man. And this isn’t his first offense. But that’s up to the organization to decide. I mean, me personally, I have this little, ‘Let’s keep this guy around so I can beat him up again’ kind of thing. But overall, not a lot of words on it, man, it’s just not a good look overall.

Being one of the greatest of all time and doing all that, like, man, get over it already. Whatever it is that you got a chip on your shoulder—whatever it is, just get over it, man. You’re one of the best fighters in the world. Like, I don’t understand. I got no words. I really don’t understand why or anything about it.”

This is not Jones’ first run-in with the law. Perhaps now after his inner demons have directly affected his family life, we may be in store for a brand new “Bones.”

Do you think Jon Jones should face disciplinary action from the UFC?

UFC color analyst Michael Bisping has received more details about the recent arrest of Jon Jones and finds the whole situation disgusting.

At the end of last month, Jon Jones was allegedly involved in a battery domestic violence charge with his fiancée Jessie Moses. After being issued a court date for an Oct. 26 appearance, Jones is now out of jail and awaiting courtroom proceedings.

Initially, Bisping reserved much of his commentary until more details about the Jon Jones arrest surfaced. On Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2021) former UFC champion Bisping spoke on his YouTube channel and further discussed the predicament Jones finds himself in currently.

“Listen, I said it last time. I’ve always had good interactions with Jon. Bisping said on his podcast. This is inexcusable. And he came out and he said he’s gonna stop drinking. I mean, yeah, OK, great. Great. That’s good. But I mean, I don’t need to say this to anybody. I mean, I was around this stuff when I was a kid, and I saw a bit of that. I don’t want to go into too many details. From what I read, she’s not pressing charges, though. So she’s not pressing charges.”

Bisping then added what could be done moving forward so that incidents like Jones’ latest arrest do not happen again.

“Well, listen, I mean, it’s disgusting. Fuckin’ of course it is. Domestic violence, it’s disgraceful, certainly from someone like Jon Jones. I don’t need to say that. I’m not giving any hot takes by sitting here and saying that. Jon’s fucked up once again, and it’s just disgusting. It’s disgusting. He’s a man with the world at his feet. He’s clearly got some fuckin’ demons. Bisping stated. He needs some help. He needs professional help. I don’t believe just not drinking is enough. I think he needs to go to some kind of counseling, some anger management for sure, and he needs to get some counseling”

After Bisping underlined the dreadfulness of domestic violence, “The Count” shared that he underwent anger management earlier in his life with great results. In addition, Bisping asserts that “Bones” needs help and not just with his alcohol consumption. Once his inner demons have been resolved with the help of counseling, perhaps one day Jones might return to the Octagon as a different man.

Do you agree with Michael Bisping’s assessment of Jon Jones?
