The curious case of ex-light heavyweight champion Jon Jones continued this week, as he stood in an orange jump suit before a judge in a court of law. Having been pulled over by the police just 5 days prior for allegedly drag racing in the streets of New Mexico, Jones had felt the lonesome space of a jail cell for 4 days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Violating the terms of his probation, worsened to a minor extent by his foul demeanour towards the New Mexico police officer, the 28-year old New York born Jones looked humble in court.

After such a torrid year for ‘Bones’ it was hoped he’d be able to stay on the straight and narrow. Alas the temptation of driving his high powered and modified Corvette was too strong, and we found ourselves once again worrying about Jones being pulled from a title fight. This time around Jones is the challenger and Daniel Cormier the champion, after the UFC stripped the fallen champion following his 2015 hit-and-run. The consensus cry from the MMA community was ‘Please Jon, stop driving.’

So here he stood, before a realistic yet stern judge, who sentenced Jon Jones to an extra 60 hours of community service, driver and anger management courses, and a no-drive before checking with his PO policy. Watch the video of the judge’s ruling and warning to Jon Jones:

“Jon, if you do come back here, it won’t go well”.

Here’s the UFC’s official response to Jon Jones’ latest law worries:

“UFC respects the decision made today by Judge Michael E. Martinez in New Mexico Second Judicial District Court regarding the probation terms of the case involving Jon Jones.”

Which is just about as generic a statement as you’d expect. Should the UFC be putting in extra measures to assure ‘Bones’ makes it to UFC 197 on April 23? Otherwise, we might find ‘DC’ facing a substitute, or worse no opponent in his scheduled third title defense.

UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is once again involved in a deep feud with the ex-champ Jon Jones. After defeating ‘DC’ at UFC 182 last January, ‘Bones’ went on a bender in New Mexico that would leave a pregnant woman injured following a late night car wreck, and also Jones’ reputation in tatters. The promotion yanked the belt from the shoulder of Jones, and Cormier submitted Anthony Johnson for the vacant belt at UFC 187.

Now set to collide at UFC 197 on April 23, Jones and Cormier have wasted no time in making their feelings toward each other known. The ‘unstoppable’ press conference last week topped off a back and forth over social media that perhaps saw ‘Bones’ take the upper hand, and he even brought his own belt to the conference to troll Cormier.

There was nothing like the infamous UFC 178 media day brawl to report, but an interesting segment from the latest edition of The MMA Hour flew under the radar. According to one of Cormier’s training partners, heavyweight kickboxer Chi Lewis-Parry, ‘DC’ and ‘Bones’ had a pretty nasty confrontation after the press conference last week. Check it out:

Wow, some pretty nasty stuff going on between Jones and Cormier by the sounds of it, and not a camera in site. This would strengthen the opinion that the former Olympian has of his foe, having called the ex-champion a ‘fake’ on multiple occasions.

So what else is hot in the world of MMA right now? Well, unless you were chilling under a rock this past weekend, you’ll know that Conor McGregor was defeated by Nate Diaz at UFC 196 after a very heated rivalry.

Apparently whoever runs the UFC Twitter account didn’t get the memo about Jon Jones’ DUI and 2015 hit-and-run controversy…

UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will return to action this coming April 23, and it will be against his old and most bitter rival. The man that many regard as the greatest 205-poud fighter of all time, Jon Jones will make his long awaited comeback, in a rematch of the last time ‘Bones’ entered the octagon. That was January of 2015 at UFC 182, when Jones stifled ‘DC’ over five rounds to successfully defend his long-held championship. Since that time, it’s been a wild ride for the Jackson’s MMA product.

An April hit-and-run controversy in New Mexico could’ve signalled the end of Jones’ career as a fighter, and it certainly meant he was stripped of his belt and faced potential jail time for his crimes. The stories of Jones fleeing the scene and the marijuana paraphernalia found by police in his rental car made the situation only more damaging. Fortunately for ‘Bones’ and his fans, the ex-champion never served prison time, received a fine and community service and was eventually reinstated by the promotion.

Just days after the announcement of Jones’ return, the UFC Tweeted this hilariously awkward message about drunk driving. The irony was not lost on us:

Even before Jon Jones started probation, he was hula-hoop racing ...

Along with his failed drug test for cocaine, his admitted addiction to Marijuana, past DUI troubles and PR stunts like a mini-stay in rehab, Jones’ reputation was pretty much shattered by year’s end 2015. Now on the comeback trail and looking bigger than ever, the world waits with high anticipation for his UFC 197 rematch with Cormier. The AKA stand out and former Olympic team member ‘DC’ took Jones’ place at UFC 187, submitting Daniel Cormier and then defending his title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192.

We look forward to the huge second fight between Jones and Cormier, and any other social media derps from the promotion in the meantime.

Stay tuned!
