Jorge Masvidal has let rip at former NFL star Colin Kaepernick.

‘Gamebred’ commented on an Instagram post from Turning Point USA. The post showed the footballer sporting a Fidel Castro shirt in 2016 alongside a picture of the recent protests in Cuba.

“Know ur history and facts cowards like this fool should be sent to live in Cuba see what they say after a day there,” Masvidal wrote.

Kaepernick found himself in hot water at the time for wearing the controversial shirt. The 33-year-old defended himself against the critics and insisted Castro had done good things for Cuba in terms of education and health care.

“I agree with the investment in education,” Kaepernick said at the time, via Sports Illustrated. “I also agree with the investment in free universal health care as well as the involvement in helping end apartheid in South Africa. …I would hope that everybody agrees those things are good things. And trying to push the false narrative that I was a supporter of the oppressive things that he did is just not true.

“One thing that Fidel Castro did do is they have the highest literacy rate because they invest more in their education system than they do in their prison system. Which we do not do here, even though we’re fully capable of doing that.”

Masvidal recently shed some light on how his family escaped the “killing machine” that is communist Cuba.

“My father escaped Cuba when he was 14 years old,” Masvidal said. “And I’ve only heard the horror stories since I could process thoughts of how s— this communist regime, killing machine is. So I just want to shed some light on Cuba – big SOS signal for them.

“This oppression has been going on for 61 years. It’s not just because of the pandemic, or it’s not just because they ran out of medicine, because they’ve been out of medicine, they’ve been out of resources and food. Because of the corrupt government, the extreme corruption over there where only a few at the top eat and everybody else has to suffer – those days have to come to an end.” (Transcribed by Fox News)

Gilbert Burns Believes Next Fight Is Against Leon Edwards Or Jorge Masvidal

Gilbert Burns will fight anyone to get another title shot.

Burns returned to the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Stephen Thompson in the UFC 264 co-main event last week. While it was a win over a top-ranked welterweight, it wasn’t the most impressive performance either.

And if he wants to get another shot at Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title, Burns will have to rack up a few more wins, especially in impressive fashion.

So who does he want next? Whoever gets the Brazilian closer to the title. He’s even willing to fight Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal one after the other if that’s what it will take.

“I want the one to get me a clear way to the title,” Burns told TMZ (via Middle Easy). “If that’s Leon Edwards, that’s the one I want. If I need two more fights, give me Masvidal now, give me Leon Edwards later.

“I’m not going to lie to you — I want to fight everyone in the division. I still have a dream to battle against Colby, rematch with Kamaru, I want to beat Masvidal, Nate Diaz, Leon Edwards, I want to beat every single guy, especially a tough one in that division. So no preference. … And I do believe it’s against Leon or Jorge Masvidal. Between these two is my next fight.”

Of course, if Colby Covington — who is expected to fight for the title next — beats Usman, things could change for Burns. But for now, he needs another win at the very least to even think of staking a claim for a second title shot.

Who do you think Burns should fight next?

Gilbert Burns called out a number of names, but it’s Jorge Masvidal that interests him the most.

Burns returned to the win column with a unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson in their UFC 264 co-main event last night. While it wasn’t the prettiest fight, Burns got the job done against one of the top welterweight contenders.

In his post-fight interview, “Durinho” called out three names in particular — Leon Edwards, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. While Diaz is out of the question as per UFC president Dana White, the other two could very well be potential next opponents for Burns.

The Brazilian’s preference, however, is Masvidal and given the latter’s new star power, Burns wants the money to be right as well.

“I just took the ‘NMF’ (Nicest Mother F*cker) belt, I can take the ‘BMF’ (Baddest Mother F*cker) belt,” Burns said at the evening’s post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “If Leon wants, he can get it; if Nate wants, he can get it. I know I just got a title shot, I can’t ask for another title shot, I don’t believe they’re gonna give it to me, so I want to keep working. I want to keep staying disciplined, keep getting better. I need to find that balance to stay disciplined but at the same time get a finish. Just gonna keep working. Give me any one of these guys.

“The only thing is I like the Masvidal fight a lot, but he just got two losses. He make a lot of money, so [they] gotta give me an extra check to fight him. I fight Masvidal next, but put me on a pay-per-view card and I’ll fight him, it’s gonna be a crazy one.”

It would certainly be a great fight. However, it mainly depends on whether Masvidal would be reciprocative to such a matchup.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal gave a glowing review of his American Top Team teammate Dustin Poirier ahead of his trilogy bout with Conor McGregor at UFC 264.

Masvidal has been training with Poirier on a plethora of occasions leading up to “The Diamond”‘s matchup with McGregor in a pivotal lightweight matchup. The winner will more than likely be the next title challenger to lightweight champion Charles Oliveira’s belt later this year.

In a recent appearance on the UFC 264 betting preview show, Masvidal provided some insight into the matchup between the two lightweight stars and more specifically; what training with Poirier has been like.

“He’s in phenomenal shape, man,” Masvidal said. “I’ve been there since the start of the camp. He came in in shape. He wasn’t messing around. He knew that the third fight was going to happen at some point. It’s not like he went home and gave himself any slack. He came back full six-packed out, doing five rounds. Usually, I see him progress and he gets better every week.”

“He faced him twice. He’s got a lot of strategies going into it. I think standup anyway because he’s dealt with it on two occasions, he knows how quickly he can find his timing. I don’t think he’s going to catch him by surprise, even on the feet. But I think that’s one of Conor’s biggest strengths.”

Masvidal announced recently that he’s looking at a return to the UFC octagon sometime this Fall, and more specifically a possible fight against the returning Nick Diaz or top welterweight contender Colby Covington.

Poirier enters the trilogy bout with a ton of momentum after knocking out McGregor earlier in January at UFC 257. It is widely anticipated to be one of the biggest pay-per-views in UFC history in the promotion’s return to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
