A pair of top 10 featherweight heavy hitters have been added to December’s pay-per-view.

Cole Shelton of BJPENN.com was first to report the news that No. 7 ranked Josh Emmett will be fighting No. 9 Dan Ige on December 11 at UFC 269. A source close to the situation who asked to remain anonymous confirmed the booking to LowKickMMA.

Both fighters would tease the booking as well on Thursday by posting on Twitter.

“”#UFC269 tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 am PST! You might want to grab some…,” Emmett wrote.

Ige would write “Big one” and then follow that tweet up with “pay-per-view.”

Emmett (16-2) has been out of action since his 2020 Fight of the Year contender against Shane Burgos in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN: Blaydes vs. Volkov. Emmett would tear his ACL just seconds into the first round, along with many other injures, including an MCL Sprain.

Emmett has had a very long road back to the octagon with a lot of setbacks with his knee recovery. Nevertheless, Emmett is riding a three-fight winning streak that included a knockout of Michael Johnson and a first-round knockout of Mirsad Bekti?.

Ige (15-4) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to ‘The Korean Zombie’ in his UFC second main event. Before his most recent loss, he knocked out highly-touted prospect Gavin Tucker in 22 seconds at UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad in March. ’50K’ went on a six-fight winning streak after losing his UFC debut back in 2018.

Featherweight contender Josh Emmett amazingly beat fellow contender Shane Burgos over three rounds at UFC on ESPN 11 despite the fact he suffered a list of catastrophic injuries early in the fight including a torn ACL. Just 15 seconds were on the clock when Emmett hyperextended his leg and he immediately knew something was terribly wrong.

“I had everything dialed in,” Emmett told MMA Fighting. “Biggest fight of my career to date. It was on ESPN. Everyone around the world was watching it and the first 15 seconds, I stepped wrong. I did it to myself. I hyperextended my knee. I’ve never experienced anything like that. I just had no stability. I can’t even describe the pain. It hurt like hell.”

“Every time I would step on it, it would buckle,” Emmett said. “It would give out. I think most people would have quit or I think they would have looked for a way out. I worked too hard for that. I was just like screw this.

“Fourteen and a half more minutes, I just had to bite down on the mouthpiece and adjust my game plan, basically everything right there, just bite down and throw bombs and just throw the kitchen sink at him.”

Emmett was initially critical of his performance post-fight but has since cut him self some slack, he now happier with how the fight played out, he explained.

“I’m definitely happy with the outcome. I was just tough on myself because I was going to show so much more of my game. I’m always going in there and just striking. I was going to mix up a lot of things. I was going to go in there and completely out class him and make it look easy.

“I suffered that [knee injury] and I just had to slug it out. I was more just pissed about the knee honestly but it was a great accomplishment over a tough opponent.”

“Instead of me just going in there and knocking him out, I am glad the way it went down,” Emmett said. “Because I just had to battle through that [injury] and we put on a great performance. Everyone’s talking about it.”

It will be some time before we see Josh Emmett back in action following UFC Vegas 3.

Emmett took on Shane Burgos in the co-main event this past weekend and was able to earn the victory via unanimous decision following a back-and-forth war.

It was all the more impressive considering he was compromised as he tore his ACL early on in the first round. By the end of the fight, he had also suffered a partial MCL tear, focal impact fracture of the femur, damaged cartilage and swelling.

As a result, it’s no surprise to see the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) hand him a six-month layoff to recover. However, Emmett will likely be out of action much longer than that as torn ACLs usually require at least nine months of recovery.

Other fighters to get 180-day suspensions were Roosevelt Roberts, Tecia Torres, Brianna van Buren and Courtney Casey.

Main event winner Curtis Blaydes is suspended for 45 days with no contact for 30 days due to a laceration on his lip while Emmett’s opponent Burgos is also out for 45 days.

On Monday evening (June 22) Brett Okamoto revealed Emmett had suffered a compete ACL tear and a bunch of other injuries in the fight, he wrote.

“UFC featherweight Josh Emmett suffered a “complete ACL tear” in his Fight of Night victory over Shane Burgos on Saturday. Per Emmett, other injuries include partial MCL tear, focal impact fracture of femur, damaged cartilage, swelling.”

“Gutted for Josh. I asked him on Saturday if he was apprehensive about what an MRI would show, and he admitted he was pissed about it. Wish him a very speedy recovery, obviously. I do think he’ll come back to a big fight, whenever he’s healthy.”

The fighter himself later took to social media to list his injuries and reiterate that he will never quit in a fight, he wrote.

As of right now it is unclear how long Emmett will need to recover. The news of this injury will of course be a big blow to the Team Alpha Male fighter who was on the cusp of a title shot after his third straight win.

Is the performance of Josh Emmett against Shane Burgos even more impressive considering the various injuries he suffered in the fight?
