Julianna Pena, UFC 277 weigh-in

Julianna Pena was the last fighter to take to the scales for UFC 277.

The current UFC women’s bantamweight queen Pena is slated to face the former division title holder Amanda Nunes in a highly-anticipated rematch this Saturday at UFC 277.

Julianna Pena is the last fighter to make weight for UFC 277

During the Friday early weigh-ins at the UFC host hotel, challenger Nunes made weight early with the other athletes on the card rotating for their turn. One conspicuous absentee from a large part of the proceedings was Pena, who turned out to be the final fighter to step on.

While some were concerned about having another UFC champion lose her title on the scales, Pena was able to hit the mark and make weight, with just 90 seconds left on the clock, coming in half a pound under the championship limit at 134.5 lbs.

Ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans will follow next at 5 pm ET at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The venue will also host Saturday night’s card.

Julianna Pena is going to do whatever it takes against Amanda Nunes at UFC 277

During the UFC 277 pre-fight press conference, Pena expressed her willingness to go to extreme lengths to retain her title in the upcoming bout.

“I’m going to say yet again, I’m not surprised mother (f**ker),” Pena said. “I’m going to punch, kick, pull her hair. I’m going to bite her, I’m going to gouge her eyeballs out if I have to. I’m literally going to do everything in there. Trust me when I say I’m ready and willing to die. Whatever it takes, I’m going to do whatever it takes.”

Nunes fired back at Pena after hearing her prediction.

“I will be there ready to be even better than her,” she said. “She’s really going to face a lion she didn’t see last time. So, I’m ready. There’s only one lion in the jungle and that’s me.”

Nunes explained her motivation to return

Having achieved just about everything there is to achieve in the sport, it’s hard to understand why Nunes continues to fight. She explained her motivation to return and leave on a better note.

“Honestly, how I lost I couldn’t take it,” she said. “So, I went back home and I have to do this again. I make all the adjustments and the changes that I was supposed to do and I jumped camp.

“I wanted the belt back, this is what I love to do, this is the feeling that I like, and I cannot retire like that. That was my main reason. I got to fight, you know. I got to fight, I got to be there and then, I got to be there 100 percent and do my best.”

Julianna Pena accused Amanda Nunes of spying on her earlier this week.

The reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion will collide with the former two-division champion Nunes in a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 277 on July 30 in Dallas, Texas.

Amanda Nunes addresses ‘spygate’

During the UFC 277 pre-fight press conference, Pena continued to fire shots at Amanda Nunes, dismissing her credibility as the once-dominant champion.

“Fedor Emilianenko has an aura,” Pena said. “Mike Tyson, Dana White, they have auras. I don’t know about this aura that you speak of with Amanda Nunes, I’m not seeing it.”

Nunes responded to claims of spying on Pena’s training camp in the build-up to their rematch.

“One time, I was walking, I saw her training, yeah. What is the problem in that?” she added. “I walk in, I saw, okay, and I went to my locker room. It was an accident.”

Nunes wants to be double champ again before retiring

When asked about her motivation to still keep going after achieving essentially everything in the sport, Nunes explained what caused her to restructure her training camp and switch gyms to get better.

I got to fight, I got to be there and then, I got to be there 100 percent and do my best.

“And being a champion is very good. I know the feeling she’s feeling right now. I’m still a champion too I know that feeling so I want to become a double champion again. That was my main thing. I had to go back go to the gym, fix everything, get everything under control, and come back here.”
