The UFC returns to Fortaleza, Brazil for the first time since 2013 with a fine card on Fox Sports 1 this Saturday, March 11.

In the main event, 20-year veteran Vitor Belfort tries to right the ship and retain his position at the top of the division against the surging Kelvin Gastelum, the 25-year-old former welterweight and The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner who is testing the waters at 185 pounds following multiple incidents of missing the 170-pound limit.

It’s a barn burner of a matchup that promises fireworks. With the future of the middleweight division up in the air, the bout has real implications for the title picture as well.

The rest of the card is about as good as a Fight Night event on FS1 can get these days. The co-main event features former light heavyweight champion Shogun Rua in a slobber-knocker of a fight with Gian Villante, but the best fight on the card may well be the 155-pound matchup between rising lightweights Edson Barboza and Beneil Dariush.

If that weren’t enough, the flyweight bout between prospect Ray Borg and veteran Jussier Formiga has Fight of the Night potential, as does the main-card opener featuring the rematch between Alex Oliveira and Tim Means.

Even the preliminary card features fights worthy of attention: Keep an eye on the lightweight fight between Francisco Trinaldo and Kevin Lee, along with the debuts of prospects Davi Ramos and Paulo Borrachinha.

Let’s take a look at each individual matchup.

“The Tazmexican Devil” is coming off a one-sided win over Louis Smolka at UFC 207 late last month. It was a rebound win for Borg, who came into the bout off a unanimous loss to Justin Scoggins. Borg’s tilt with Smolka was his first with Jackson-Wink MMA.

Formiga has gone 5-3 inside the Octagon. After falling short in a split decision loss to Henry Cejudo, Formiga fought Dustin Ortiz in Brasilia. The Brazilian took the fight by unanimous decision.

This UFC Fight Night event has its headliner set. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort will go toe-to-toe with Kelvin Gastelum in the main event. Lightweights Edson Barboza and Beneil Dariush will also be featured on the card.

Former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will do battle with Gian Villante. A women’s bantamweight tilt between former title challenger Bethe Correia and Marion Reneau is also set for the event.

On Wednesday evening, UFC confirmed two changes to their upcoming return event in Phoenix, Arizona.

The following is from the official UFC.com report regarding the pair of replacement bouts that are now official for the 1/15 fight card:

“In the flyweight division, it will be a new clash of contenders, as former world title challenger John Moraga replaces the injured Jussier Formiga against Milwaukee’s Sergio Pettis.

“Plus, with Jordan Rinaldi forced to withdraw from his match against Devin Powell, unbeaten Drakkar Klose has stepped in to make his Octagon debut against his fellow UFC newcomer.”

Headlined by the long-awaited Octagon return of UFC Hall Of Famer and former two-division UFC World Champion BJ Penn, who battles durable contender Yair Rodriguez in the main event, UFC Fight Night 103 takes place live from the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on January 15, 2017.

Flyweights Jussier Formiga and Dustin Ortiz are set to meet at UFC Fight Night 95, according to a report by MMAjunkie.

Formiga (18-4) is coming off a split decision loss to Henry Cejudo that snapped his three-fight win streak. The Brazilian is 4-3 overall with the UFC, including wins vs. Wilson Reis, Zach Makovsky and Scott Jorgensen.

Ortiz (15-5) sports a similar 4-3 Octagon mark and is also coming off a loss, as he was bested by Reis in January.

UFC Fight Night 95 takes place September 24 from the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil.

Joe Riggs vs. Ben Saunders, John Moraga vs. Jussier Formiga Added to UFC on FOX 13

(“Help you with your squat technique, ma’am?“)

Two months after accidentally blasting a hole through his leg, welterweight veteran Joe Riggs has been rescheduled to make his Octagon return at UFC on FOX 13: Dos Santos vs. Miocic (December 13th, Phoenix). Riggs will face Ben “Killa B” Saunders in a booking that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that UFC matchmaker Joe Silva is a closet Bellator fan. Basically, this fight is for the unofficial Fight Master Season 2 certificate. The stakes literally couldn’t be higher.

Saunders was successful in his own UFC return in August, submitting Chris Heatherly with an omoplata — the first such finish in the promotion’s history — after a 7-3 run in Bellator. Riggs has yet to compete this year, but is riding a six-fight win streak. And in case you missed it, Joe Riggs says his recent near-death experience started when he brought a gun to his gym and his friend cocked it. To which we can only respond: Joe, that “friend” of yours is trying to kill you.

In other UFC on FOX 13 booking news, former flyweight title challenger John Moraga will face contender Jussier “Formiga” da Silva, who has scored back-to-back wins against Scott Jorgensen and Zach Makovsky. Moraga is coming off a guillotine choke victory against Justin Scoggins at UFC Fight Night 50 earlier this month.

Also, Matt Mitrione vs. Gabriel Gonzaga was added to the card last week. We missed that news somehow. But now we know. Mitrione via shoulder bomb.
