“155?,” Khabib Nurmagomedov commented (h/t BJPenn.com).

Although both fighters have wanted that fight, St-Pierre’s coach in Firas Zahabi believes the ship has sailed on 155-pounds.

“Right now I think the ship has sailed on 155,” Zahabi told MMAjunkie recently. “I don’t think Georges will ever do 155. I think there was a time and place and window where Georges would make that sacrifice to do a mega-fight. But I think that window’s passed, personally.”

Why he thinks that is dropping down to 155-pounds is sacrificing a lot in his life.

“He’s older now, and life is good,” Zahabi said. “He’s found a social life, a balance in life of training and family and friends. To leave all that to do a 155 is a big cost in terms of sacrificing energy and preparation. He would have to prep six months to get to that. He would have to set it up to get done. 155 would be work. Is he going to work that much? I think that ship has sailed.

“I’m not talking for Georges. In my opinion, he’ll only come back for a mega-fight. Like a mega-fight,” he concluded. “No titles needed, either. Could be a title. I don’t think that’s really important to him. Like a mega-fight. Only those two names [Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor] that are the names big enough for him and enticing.”

Do you think we will see Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Georges St-Pierre at lightweight?

Georges St-Pierre has officially moved on from the possible Khabib Nurmagomedov fight.

The two were linked to a possible fight for quite a while, yet the UFC was never interested in the fight. Now, ‘GSP’ says the fight will not happen.

“We worked very hard, my agent knocked at the door, we asked many times. But, the UFC did not want to do it,” St-Pierre said to Chael Sonnen. “My goal was to be the first to champ-champ-champ, that is what we wanted to do. Unfortunately, it fell through and (we) asked if we could do it at a catchweight and the UFC didn’t want it.”

Although it is a fight Georges St-Pierre really wanted, he says he is not focusing on that anymore and is happy being retired.

“Now, it is over. I missed the train and the train is gone. I don’t think it will happen,” he explained.

St-Pierre last fought back at UFC 217 where he won the middleweight title against Michael Bisping. With the win, he became a champion in two different weight classes and wanted the Nurmagomedov fight to make it three.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, will look to defend his title against Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 242. He will be looking for his second title defense in what will be his first fight since he beat Conor McGregor at UFC 229.

What do you make of Georges St-Pierre saying the Khabib Nurmagomedov fight will not happen?

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre revealed he retired because a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov didn’t come to fruition.

Earlier this year, there was talk of a super fight between the two, with Nurmagomedov, in particular, showing a great interest in facing his idol. In the end, it never happened, with St-Pierre later officially announcing his retirement.

Speaking to TSN recently, “GSP” revealed he and his camp tried to make that fight happen only for the UFC to state that they had other plans. Because of this, he decided to retire:

“A lot of people are attention seekers, they retire to come back and retire to come back,” St-Pierre said (via MMA Fighting). “I’m not that type of guy. We tried to make that fight with Khabib and the UFC told us they had other plans. Khabib wanted the fight, I wanted the fight, but unfortunately it did not happen. That’s the reason why I retired.

“For me, it’s a lot more to lose than to win now and the most important thing for me is my health. I’m no longer, right now as I’m talking, pursuing my goal, which back in the day was to be the best fighter in the world. It was for many years and now it’s not my number one priority anymore.”

The UFC has made it clear that they are open to lucrative super fights even if it disrupts a division. A St-Pierre vs. Nurmagomedov matchup would certainly be worth big money, so why did the Las Vegas-based promotion not go ahead with it?

St-Pierre believes it’s because a win would destroy their investment in the current UFC lightweight champion:

“Maybe they don’t want me to beat him because if I leave after that, I ruin their whole investment,” St-Pierre added.

Do you think St-Pierre would have defeated Nurmagomedov if they faced each other?

Georges St-Pierre’s Coach Thinks Khabib Fight At 165 Pounds Is Best Matchup

Georges St-Pierre’s coach thinks he has the best matchup for the former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion in mind. That would see him compete in the rumored 165-pound division in the UFC that has been pitched heavily by fighters.

St-Pierre went on record before his last fight by saying that the reason he is returning to MMA to cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the sport. He fought once and then stepped aside due to an illness. While doing a recent interview, GSP made it known that he will make a decision if he wants to fight again soon.

If he does return, then fighting 5 pounds lighter than he used to would be perfect. Thus, Firas Zahabi believes it’s an option.

“As of what I understand right now, there is no 165 [pound division],” Zahabi told YouTube channel MMA Betz (transcript via BJPenn.com). “It’s a ‘maybe’ from what I understand. It’s a rumor I should say, and if that happens I think it could be very interesting for Georges. I’m hoping that rumor is true.”

If this were to happen then he already has the best matchup in mind. That would be to take on UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I think the best matchup would be, for sure, Khabib [Nurmagomedov]. If they were to create a 165-pound division, I think it would make a lot of sense to have Georges St-Pierre and Khabib be the first ones to fight for that title.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager Has Big Money Demand For Next Fight

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager is looking to get his client paid big bucks.

The post Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Manager Has Big Money Demand For Next Fight appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager is appearing to have what’s best for his client in mind when it comes to his next fight. It’s pretty clear if the UFC wants to see their lightweight champion fight again. But big money will have to be put on the line.

The speculation about who he’d fight next has gone wild. Could Khabib be fighting Conor McGregor for the second time? How about a fight with former UFC middleweight and welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre? Might he change things up with a boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather?

Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has stated in a recent interview they will fight anyone but it needs to be for the biggest money bout possible.

“Ben Askren, Woodley, none of these guys can touch Khabib,” Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports (H/T to MMAFighting). “Especially if they’re scared to get tired and these guys, they get tired.”

Abdelaziz made it known that he’s worried about getting big money from the UFC that is around the range of $50M to $100M.

“Now, I’m not even worried about Tyron or Ben Askren, I’m worrying about somebody bringing $50M to $100M to the table and none of these guys can bring $200,000 to the table.”

The reason for this is due to the payday that they got for UFC 229 that saw Khabib submit McGregor. McGregor made $3M in base pay. He was rumored to have pulled in upwards of $50M once getting a percentage of the PPV sales. On the flip side, Khabib got a salary of $2M and will have also received a piece of the PPV money.

“Listen, the guy we just fought said he made $50M,” Abdelaziz said. “I think, as a global superstar, Khabib bypass him. You have a guy meeting with Putin and Erdo?an and the other guy selling liquor on the corner store.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov Looking To Be Paid

For Khabib’s manager, he thinks that Khabib’s job is to get as much money as possible not figure out what’s his next fight.

“At the end of the day, maybe a whole bunch of money gets on the table, maybe the rematch. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll give a rematch to the guy we just killed. . . Whatever’s gonna bring Khabib money. This is now my job. It’s not Khabib’s job. Khabib created legacy, 11 years, 27 fights. Right now, money talks, bulls**t walks. That’s it.”

According to his manager, the UFC champ is rich and could retire right now if he wanted to do so. Thus, they will wait it out until the right fight is presented.

“Khabib can retire now. He’s rich. . . But if somebody’s gonna put big paycheck on the table and we can get it done, I don’t care about number one contender, number ten contender. Khabib was number one contender for five years! Conor jumped him, Eddie jumped him, a lot of people jumped him. Right now, it’s about the paycheck.”

Daniel Cormier Explains Which Fight Should Be Made Next For Khabib Nurmagomedov

Daniel Cormier thinks Khabib Nurmagomedov’s next fight is an easy decision for the UFC.

The post Daniel Cormier Explains Which Fight Should Be Made Next For Khabib Nurmagomedov appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Daniel Cormier explains who Khabib Nurmagomedov should fight next following the biggest win thus far in his pro-MMA career.

The UFC lightweight champion is coming off a massive win over former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor. This fight served as the headliner of the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. However, with the brawl after the fight, his future is up in the air depending on what the NSAC decides.

Since that fight, there has been a lot of speculation as to who he should fight next. Whether that be McGregor again, a potential showdown against Georges St-Pierre or even a boxing bout against Floyd Mayweather.

Daniel Cormier Has An Idea

One fighter has sounded off on this topic, which is UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. The training partner of Khabib thinks the fight to be made next is against GSP.

“Khabib has a number of options,” Cormier said recently on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “Tony is great. I don’t dislike Tony Ferguson at all. I think he’s a phenomenal fighter, this dude’s a beast. I think he’s the tougher matchup for Khabib but I say do Khabib vs. Georges St-Pierre. That’s the fight. It’s big.”

The UFC champ believes the fight would have to go down at 165 pounds at catchweight in order for it to happen.

“Matchup wise, Tony, tough, GSP, super tough; but the history and the matchup of a GSP fight, at 165.” Cormier said (H/T to MMAfighting). “It doesn’t have to be for a belt. This is a big enough fight that it doesn’t have to be for a title. Make it a catchweight fight. When you’ve got names like Khabib and Georges, it can be for anything. Let those guys fight.”

Cormier did make it known while asked for his prediction that he thinks this would be the closest fight to be made for Khabib. However, he thinks the UFC lightweight champion could get it done by unanimous decision.

“Khabib wins but this is his closest fight ever because you don’t just control Georges St-Pierre,” concluded Cormier. “But you’re asking me a loaded question because I’m never gonna say Khabib’s gonna lose. I think it’s a five-round decision. You don’t finish Georges St-Pierre, unless you are Matt Serra.”
