Khabib Nurmagomedov reveals clear plan for Islam Makhachev to finish Dustin Poirier at UFC 302

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov claims a firm plan is in place for his countryman, Islam Makhachev to beat incoming common-foe, Dustin Poirier at UFC 302 this weekend – claiming a second or third round finish should be on the cards.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion and Hall of Fame inductee, called time on his unbeaten professional career back in 2020 following a successful title unification win over then-interim champion, Justin Gaethje.

And returning to the camp of Makhachev last week in Newark ahead of the current titleholder’s showdown with former interim best, Poirier in New Jersey in the main event of UFC 302 this weekend, it is currently unclear if the Dagestan native will feature as a cornerman at the Prudential Center.

However, sharing his immediate thoughts on the clash, Nurmagomedov claims Makhachev should have many openings in the second or third round to turn in a finish over Lafayette favorite, Poirier – who admitted he may likely call time on his own run in the sport.

“Many people underestimate Dustin Poirier,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said on his YouTube channel. “I personally fought him, spent three and over 10 minutes with him, and I have a good sense of his strengths and weaknesses. We are working hard on these aspects.”

“Dustin Poirier is very experienced; he’s been in many battles already,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “Yes, he has lost, but he also has many victories in the UFC, more than 22 or 23 wins. Using our slang, he is a seasoned warrior. You can’t take him lightly. We have great respect for Dustin, but on June 1. he is our opponent. We have a clearly developed plan for the fight, and I believe Islam (Makhachev) will follow it. I really hope that Islam will finish him off in the second or third round.”

Conor McGregor delighted to hear about Khabib Nurmagomedov's tax issues he's a scurrying rat

Conor McGregor will be open to welcoming back Khabib Nurmagomedov to the Octagon, as it’s reported the Dagestani native has unpaid taxes.

According to reports, Nurmagomedov has allegedly been under investigation for underpaying his business taxes at an estimated $300 million rubles ($3.3 million United States dollars). Following the reports of the news, McGregor spoke about it and says he hopes that leads to Nurmagomedov returning as he wants that fight back.

“That’s typical rat behavior,” Conor McGregor said on a Duelbits live stream. “Scurrying rat. So, he has bills to pay. Two main events or something he has in the UFC and he owes his b*llocks to the Russian government. So, he’s gonna pay his f—kin’ money that he owes instead of siphoning it out through to other countries. I’m ecstatic and delighted that that’s coming on top of him.

“We all will welcome him back into the fight game where he’s ran from,” McGregor continued. “It’s a rat trap. The rat trap has been set. We’re excited about that and to see where it goes. We noticed a little rat scurrying on back. We see him back around. The fat rat we call him.”

McGregor and Nurmagomedov fought back at UFC 229 in 2018 and it was ‘The Eagle’ who won by fourth-round submission to defend his lightweight title. Nuragomedov fought two more times and then retired following his submission win over Justin Gaethje.

Conor McGregor set for highly-anticipated return

Conor McGregor will be ending his three-year layoff on June 29 when he headlines UFC 303 against Michael Chandler.

McGregor has not competed since July of 2021 when he broke his leg in the trilogy match against Dustin Poirier. Before that, he was knocked out by Poirier after a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone in his return to MMA after his loss to Nurmagomedov.

Octagon icon Khabib Nurmagomedov is back in the gym and training alongside his protege.

On Saturday, June 1, reigning lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev will put his title on the line against division fan favorite Dustin Poirier in the UFC 302 main event.

As the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ prepares for a third defense of his 155-pound crown, much of the focus on the fight has surrounded Makhachev’s mentor and UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov.

After reports surfaced claiming that Nurmagomedov owes a fat stack of cash to the Russian Federal Tax Service, rumors ran rampant that ‘The Eagle’ was considering a return to the Octagon in search of a 30th career win. Fuel was added to that fire when it was revealed that the former lightweight champ had joined Makhachev in New Jersey for the final two weeks of his protege’s fight camp.

“Just landed,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram.

Don’t expect to see Khabib Nurmagomedov strap on the four-ounce gloves again

Before you get too excited, don’t expect Nurmagomedov to jump back into the Octagon anytime soon, or ever for that matter. After a recent round of rumors regarding his return made headlines, longtime coach Javier Mendez shut down any possibility of Nurmagomedov fighting again on an episode of his podcast.

“I’m just letting you guys know that, you know, stop all this nonsense [on the internet] regarding Khabib [coming back to the UFC] and me and him training. There’s been no such thing happening. We’re not discussing training. We never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said [about not fighting again]. He’s devoted his time to his family. He’s not working people’s corners. He’s not gonna ever fight. To my knowledge, it has never been spoken about.”

Mendez appears pretty confident that Nurmagomedov’s days of fighting are 100% over, but as they say in MMA, anything is possible.

It’s uncertain if ‘The Eagle’ will be in Makhachev’s corner inside the Prudential Center in Newark come fight night. If Nurmagomdeov does make the walk with Makhachev, it will be the first time since UFC 280 when Makhachev won the vacant title with a second-round submission victory over Charles Oliveira.
